"Nothing happens??"

Meaning the Finn and Rose story would still be useless and would have still felt like a waste. The keeping information from Poe would still be stupid and frustrating. The Chase would still be slow and boring and Plot holes galore would still be there.

Finn and Rose brought DJ who tipped the FO off to the fleeing transports. The FO gunning down the transports caused Holdo to turn around and nuke the entire fleet. Then Finn killed Phasma. Since Hux knew that some transports escaped that led to the final showdown on Crait. Not sure how you could ever think that Finn and Rose's story didn't go anywhere. Sure their specific plan failed but their actions led to all the major moments at the end of the film.

The five stages of The Last Jedi grief.

Denial

It's a great film, it's a masterpiece! You just don't understand. Luke Skywalker was perfect. It has a 90% on rottentomatoes. It made like, a billion dollars dude. Everyone loved it!

Anger

These haters don't know what they're talking about. This is the best since Empire. All these trolls do is whine and complain, I'm sick of them. Loud minority.

Bargaining

C'mon, it's Star Wars. It's better than the prequels atleast. 50% audience approval on Rottentomatoes is nothing. I knew it wouldn't make that much in less than a month of it's release. 1.4 billion is a lot to ask, excpectations should be low from here on out, not every Star Wars can be the force Awakens. Everyone loved it, well except half the audience and China, but they don't matter. Surely you detractors liked a couple of scenes, right? Hyperdrive Kamikaze ammirite guys *nervous laughter*

>>>>>>YOU ARE HERE<<<<<<

Depression

I feel . . . cold. I don't feel like going to see Star Wars again this weekend. The opinions of the people on this forum make me sad. I hate the movie section. I'm cancelling my Hot Toys Admiral Holdo doll.

Acceptance

Wor and Crows and Grace and Mark Hamill were right, this movie does suck. What was I thinking, this is the worst since AOTC. I put it up there with SW and Empire. All those valid criticisms and I was too blind to see it. I won't fall for it again with Solo a Han Solo movie.

Ooh, Episode 9! Shiny

:lol :lol

Ya know.. Box office, SJW crap, Luke being true to his character or not... None of this really matters to me.

What matters is that this film had the worst plot of the entire SW series.. As far as moving a story forward and being important to the flow and continuation of the story.. This is the worst.. Not the worst movie.. But the worst story.. Which is a shame because I loved the look of the film and it had a couple of cool moments.

I would rather they made a boba fett film instead of a han solo one. It could start with him escaping the sarlacc and righting that wrong.

There's a story right there. But that would require a return of Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill. No can do. That's one for the comics. Then again, this is Kathleen Kennedy's Lucasfilm now so basic business sense is no longer a factor in the decision making. I dont want her touching Boba Fett anyways.

And there's a rumor that Lucasfilm was considering killing him off and replacing him with someone else. I'm gonna make a bold assumption and say that it was probably going to be a woman.

The Boba Fett movie almost happened. It was going to be directed by Josh Trank.

But then the whole Fant4stic debacle happened with Fox and his very public comments on twitter. That ruined his shot with Lucasfilm.
Since 2012, Kathleen Kennedy's record with directors: fired Josh Trank, got Gareth Edwards replaced for the reshoots on RO, fired Lord and Miller on Solo, fired Colin Trevorrow for IX :lol

Ok, here it is. Just got back form my FIRST VIEWING of The Last Jedi.

I am a long time Star Wars fan. I saw Star Wars (Not A New Hope) when I was 7 in 1977 so its been with me most of my life and after reading all the complaints I was going in expecting the biggest piece of garbage ever put to film.... and.... well.... it..... wasn't.

First off some of the bad.... but none of them are deal breakers

Space Leia - kind of hokey
Yoda - kind of hokey
Could have been about 20 minutes shorter.
Yes, they could have cut down on the jokes.

Now some of the complaints I read....

Rey being a nobody - THANK GOD. I was praying she wasn't a Skywalker (or any relation to anyone we knew) that would have been a cop out.
Snoke - I am just fine with him dying, in fact I thought it was pretty cool the way it happened.
Luke milk - it was a 5 second scene... no big deal.
Broom boy - If he shows up in IX and has powers it just shows the force is everywhere and can be in anyone. No problem with it.
Casino scene. I'm not sure what the exact complaints were about it but it was just fine by me.
Luke hologram - At first I thouht he was really there but when his footprints didn't leave red marks in the sand it was obvious he wasn't and I am ok with him "force projecting" himself there. Jedi have to learn something new in 20 years

I'm not going to dissect every little thing or every scene nor do I worry about those things. I liked it overall. I'd put it in 4th place just behind the 3rd place tie of ROTS & ROTJ.

Go ahead and rip me all you want because I don't hate it like I am supposed to.. I'm a big boy I can take it but I'm looking forward to the next one and I'll be happy to watch this one again.

You’re entitled to like it. I don’t think anyone will “rip you” for liking it. It’s actually been quite the opposite here IMO. I’d say it’s the defenders that have worked over time to silence and dismiss the voice of dissent, not the othe way around.

Sooooo, without the betrayal of the great DJ, the FO would have had no idea that little ships were leaving the big ship. They can turn a planet into a giant weapon, travel in hyperspace that need precise calculations, track other ships in hyperspace, but they don't have any type of tech that would detect little ships leaving the big ship. I guess the bridge just has a few guys with space binoculars looking out into the beyond then? I guess they're just so small they're scanner can't detect them?

Wasn't it in the very first movie, Ep4, that the empire detected escape pods were jettisoned from the Tantive IV, and even scan them for life forms? (Oh yeah, none of that matters anymore cause it never happened. Kennedy and Johnson just like to make stuff up and pretend TLJ is so revolutionary that all that came before will be forgotten.) I guess the FO is also dumb enough to think that when the big ship runs out of fuel, all the resistance will just sit tight and die, not try to escape in escape pods... Or maybe they believe the resistance is so dumb that they don't even have escape pods on their command ships??

Just so many questions... I'm so confused. My brain hurts. Someone make it stop.....

Me neither. It looked good, it served a purpose and introduced DJ with his roguish/skeptical take on the galaxy to counter Finn and Rose's idealism.

I'd put it in 4th place just behind the 3rd place tie of ROTS & ROTJ.

I'd put it 5th after the OT and RO.

I'll watch TFA again today, and follow it with a fourth viewing of TLJ to see how they work/collide.

Apparently some people are simply threatened by that fact and can only defend their personal yet highly insecure preferences by mocking those who don't agree with them.

Glad you liked it Darth Madden. The naysayers are harmless and their complaints are largely much ado about nothing.

Does this not count again, because you didn't use the :lol icon or whatever?

I have TLJ fourth after SW/ESB and RO. As much as ROTJ is filled with iconic characters and a sweet final battle I just find the film as a whole to be too uninspired in the manner it conveniently wrapped everything up to rank it above TFA/TLJ. Do you just appreciate ROTJ by association of it being in the OT or do you consider it a genuinely great film?

Not sure why you've been waiting to catch me in my own words from however many days/weeks ago but once again I haven't mocked anyone for disliking TLJ. I have found the fact that some guys have been threatened by how the characters interacted in the movie to be quite silly (in addition to some off hand remarks in these threads discussing them) but I haven't once ridiculed anyone simply for not liking the movie.

I love ROTJ primarily for the Jabba's Palace scenes.

But the whole film is so evocative for me as it was right in my era, and the only SW film I saw in the cinema. It ended the 'classic' era on film, until the spark RO lit the fire again.

My view of these films is biased by their serial cliffhanger origins.

As an homage to escapist serials you have to overlook plot holes and just go with the flow, and the better films have an uninterrupted flow. That is, a few things intrude on TLJ to interrupt the flow, such as misplaced humour. Just as Jar Jar, Battle Droids, laboured politics and taxation intrude on the PT.

TFA and TLJ are closer to Lucas' originals than he managed with his PT.

I didn't think to add RO to my overall rankings... Not sure where I'd put it. I'll have to think about it.

Ah, right on. I saw SW and ESB when they came out and Jedi never had the quite same impact on me save for a huge crush I had on Carrie at the time and the awesome battle at the end. I went through a phase when I was pretty disgusted with it after I heard about how much bigger the story was supposed to be but randomly enough the grim finale of RO helped me to just embrace ROTJ once and for all. Now I love the ease of which the characters achieved their goals and find the cheesy celebration to be a much appreciated payoff after RO/SW/ESB.

I don't have a problem with it either, though Johnson has admitted JJ can retcon that if he wants.

And of course it makes Kylo the main character of the trilogy by default, since the saga is about the Skywalker family. Now that he's in charge of the FO, all Rey has to do is turn him to win the war. That would mirror both ROTS and ROTJ nicely.

Glad to hear that you liked it, DM. :duff

I agree with some of the points you made; both good and bad.

Or in a twist they could say that Kylo is "out" because he forsook his family name. There's nothing stopping Rey from taking the name Skywalker as a symbolic surname since she doesn't have one of her own. Then they'd do away with the "special by blood" theme once and for all.

They could even go so far as to suggest that Rey is the "other" Skywalker that Yoda spoke of in the OT since Leia never used her power to fight evil. Say that he saw the "other" in a vision of the future and that if Luke failed in the OT that they would have had to have waited decades more for the other to show up.
