Ithey ended up with a pile of burning garbage that the majority of the audience hates (49% rotten tomatoes).

I'm pretty sure the 88,726 people (51% of the 173,972 user votes on RT) don't represent a "majority of the audience". There have been tens of millions of tickets purchased for this film, just in North America alone.
IMDB has over 280,000 user votes with a current score of 7.5. That's not TESB numbers, but it's nowhere near a bad score.

Thanks for posting. Interesting stuff.

I think there's still enough wiggle room based on what's shown on screen for me to interpret the FO's origins differently. Now will I bring that mindset to a "what's canon" debate? No. But I always pick and choose what I allow into my head canon anyway. I know that Ridley Scott wants me to accept Deckard as a replicant but I'm going to call BS on that until the day I die, lol. ;)

Definitely a lot of room there as it took them a long time to become a dangerous force again.

The Remnant has been consigned to a 'Cold War', so presumably only skirmishes at best with the Republic until the First Order went to war.

Is there any mention of why the FO prefers shiny satin uniforms? Or explain why they are more open to diversification than the original Empire? Or what the "red" mark is on things -- like TIEs and 3PO?

How can anyone here actually praise SW failing in China, and say it doesn't matter. And justifying it with statements like it still made blah blah billion, it's still the top top earning movie of 2017, in the top 12 all time, etc.... Or that "who cares, them Chinese folk like dumb movies". That's blind fan boy devotion to a soulless corporation.

Meanwhile, it sure DOES matter to Disney's Exec's and BOD's. Disney isn't thinking/saying those statements at their internal board meetings. They're not calling in and Kennedy & Johnson and saying great job, "who needs them Chinese!!' They're not cheering that SW couldn't outperform Coco or Pirates whatever in China and saying job well done everyone... All they're seeing is the millions & millions $$$$ of lost dollars. The millions it has under performed as compared to predictions from Financial Analysts.

You guys are just silly.... :cuckoo:

You see that Q&A where he snubbed Daisy at the end? Something like he looked forward to working again with everyone apart from Daisy. She looked stunned, and everyone on the stage was waiting for Hamill to reveal that he was obviously joking.

But he didn't. General embarrassment ensued, and the presenter said something like, 'we can't end it like that', but Hamill was unmoved. So they had to end it like that.

It was the same Q&A where he kept asking for questions to be repeated because he said he'd fallen asleep.

He went so far down that road that he became as isolated as Luke was in TLJ. :lol

Do you have a link to that interview?

Hamill's hatred lead him to the dark side.

I think his joke was that she was the only one he had actually really worked with in the movie. So even though he was in the same room as all the people on that panel, he didn't actually work with any of them.

He didn't say "again" if I recall. He just said outside of Daisy (cause he had worked with her) I really hope to work with them all someday.

The whole Q&A was about 30 minutes long, and it must have been from another source as the camera showed Daisy's reaction.

Don't get me wrong. I heard it the same way, the way they/Daisy reacts, etc. But I think he was just making a joke about the fact that he barely worked with anyone in the cast. It just landed poorly, as a dig to Daisy. But he doesn't say "again" which is why I take it that he is just trying to point out that he never really worked with anyone else on that panel.

Carrie obviously wasn't there and I don't think Driver was there either.

Yes, it was a joke that came over badly at Daisy's expense. Which is an indication of his state of mind at that time, as with his pretending to fall asleep in that same video.

Yeah, the falling asleep gag was weird. Is he just burnt out from all this press stuff, truly frustrated by the film, or is that just his humor? Seems like a combination of all those things. He's acting like he's been up for 24 hours straight or something.

:lol

What could be better?

Two....?

Always two there are no more no less.

lulz

What is Disney to do if the Chinese are not into SW?

Force them to like it what?

Is there a food you would never eat?

If my business is making that food that you don’t like should I force you to eat it or concentrate more on the customers who do like it.

Star Wars won't perform well in China til there is little to no dialogue, spaceships that transform into robots, and endless and impossible car chases.

And slapstick action, they love slapsticky action. Perhaps if they reboot Star Wars starring the Three Stooges, Optimus Prime, and chase eachother in cars for 2 hours.

I thought it was just the TLJ lovers who were hurling insults?

Proceeds to insult a whole race:

Considering every showing I went to was sold out, I find that hard to believe. Especially if you saw it in the first 2 weeks of release.

weekEND shows were sold out. WeekDAY shows had seats. at least a couple.

In response to your attempt to create a narrative of box office disappointment because of one country with absolute **** taste in films? Yep, we'll bring up the billion dollars each and every time. :D :wave

no Kevinirino.... that still doesnt account the brand damage. like i said, everyone in here still uses the prequels are punchlines for jokes 15 years later.
Some people never forgave Lucas. Anakin is still mocked and the actors are still mocked.

15 from now people will still be using Rose as a punchine for jokes. regardless of the billion that Disney made or not. the mockery of this movie will not end when episode 9 comes out, it will always follow it

Like I told Jye, i dont even care anymore about talking about the movie itself. everything taht needed to be said was said.

but you guys are cheering a short term win with the billion dollars but this movie is gonna be shadowed by its reputation. this is literally how it felt when attack of the clones came out

Everyone laughed at the prequels, fans and non-fans alike. The only people crying about TLJ is the extreme alt.fan "not muh Skywalker" contingent and the views of one small portion of the fanbase will hardly be accepted as an all-encompassing consensus going forward.

TLJ isn’t the “LUCAS RAPED MY CHILDHOOD” you’re looking for, move along.
