The whole Gareth Edwards being replaced on RO is complete BS with no actual facts to back it up other than rumors. We know reshoots are common, and bringing on a 2nd director was probably overblown by the media creating the rumors. He was most likely more a consultant to put Disney at ease since Gareth wasn't a veteran Director yet. Maybe Disney was weary when Kennedy hired him and they just wanted reassurance that all was going well. I never remember reading there was trouble behind the scenes.

And the Vader scene was most likely Gareth's idea to begin with. Disney is the one who went on record early in the process saying there wouldn't be much Vader in the movie, more a background presence. A diehard fan, like Gareth was/is, would absolutely want to put more Vader in the movie. I'm not one to believe what comes out in interviews (Poor Mark Hammil is lying his *** off to fans now recanting his dislike to appease and not get sued by Disney), especially with damage control, but there's no reason to not believe the behind the scenes Doc on the RO disc. Did anyone here actually watch it?? According to it (if I remember correctly when I watched it), Edwards and his crew had a meeting with Kennedy to discuss the possibility of having a more realistic ending as to where all the Rebels die. He didn't write the script. He didn't believe Disney/Kennedy would go for it, but after making his case Kennedy was on board thus the reshoots for the different ending. This is most likely also where the added end Vader scene came about.

I love RO. By no means is it perfect, but my complaints are the extreme minimum. It is by far better than any of the PT & ST movies, only still behind the OT and just barely behind ROTJ for me. Edwards did a way better job than both JJ & especially Rian Johnson (ugh).

Is this the same guy who wanted to save those random clone pilots during that space battle in ROTS?
Nope. Padme’s dead. :lol

Vader likely thinks even less of them than if they were remnants of the Clone Army itself. Regardless, I could still see him flinging a bunch of special forces troopers in front of enemy fire, to save his hide.

TLJ figures clearenced for $1.00-$1.70 including Rey. A real horror story.

The Hasbro toys just flat out suck though. There are some exceptions to the rule. The Black Series 6” Temple Journey Rey is decent and almost all the troopers are good figures. Granted, they really need to revisit double-jointed elbows for pete’s sake.

Frankly, I don’t think kids care about the “cheap” toys. They almost look worse than POTF figures from the mid 90s. And they retail for close to three times the price. Collectors don’t really care enough about most of the Black Series figures either. They resort to picking up a few good ones and snagging imports later.

I'm so stoked for the bring back Hugh Jackman petition in a couple of years!
If you’re referring to his role as Wolverine, it’s being suggested (and not by fans, mind you) that there’s a deal going down that *could* see him make an appearance in the MCU at some point. Maybe Avengers 4?

If it happens, I think it would only be possible through some type of dimensional rift, due to potential damage of one or more of the gems.

Make that women of colour.

Furries...?

That's because Luke and Vader will always be made by Hasbro. The Asian chick?

lol, Hasbro. Getting fans to buy the same toys over and over and over and over....

Oh I agree but it’s not fair to compare the # 1 cinematic villain and Luke freaking Skywalker from movies that created and defined pop culture to a side character 41 years into the franchise in a whole new post internet world.

lol @ hasbro owning our souls :lol

Yep its mostly "here's a pic of surprised Hamill that proves he didn't know his character died" type nonsense.

I believe that Gareth said that Weiz or Gilroy suggested that they add something with Vader at the end but Gareth ended up shooting (and appearing in) the sequence so he was hardly "fired." Yes Kennedy brought in Gilroy (the same guy who helped Gareth shoot extra scenes for Godzilla) and if Gareth had thrown a **** fit then like Lord and Miller he *would* have been fired but he didn't. He played ball with the rest of the team and helped edit the final film, did ALL of the behind the scenes interviews on the blu-ray, continued work into TLJ, etc.

Despite the controversy -- replaced or not -- Gareth certainly has proven himself in hindsight. I hope he's a close member of the 'Star Wars team' going forward.

My sense going by interviews is that Gareth's shooting style created problems for him making choices in the editing room, so Disney brought in a veteran who wasn't attached to the footage to make a semblance out of it and see what they had. Based on that "cut" the final new ideas -- or "reshoots" and the ending -- took shape.

I know there's no proof of Hamill not knowing Luke died, but a picture tells a thousand words. And there is evidence to suggest he didn't know as Hamill is on the record in interviews saying he was looking forward to Ep9 as he agreed with and was on the same page as to where Colin Trevorrow was taking Luke/his character. He obviously didn't like what Johnson did, recanted or not, it's already out there. And remember No other cast members new about Vader being Luke's dad until the screening, so it's also not surprising that it would be kept a secret.

Hollywood is all about ego's. I wouldn't doubt for one second that Kennedy told Johnson to off Luke after he was making the rounds and conveying his displeasure. She's definitely one who seems she would relish in getting the last laugh. And as I and others have said, it would be extremely easy to have him simply fade away in post during the final editing of the movie.... Bye Bye Lukey... "The Force Is Female" after all... :wink1:

agree....Hamill's face on so many TLJ occasions speak volumes...more words than Khev or Jye can ever write :) shocked no one called them fake photos or said its all an act....

I'm sorry but you can't possibly think that some random photo of Mark sitting wide-eyed in a chair can possibly dispute his own words and the film itself. At the beginning of the movie Kylo Ren says that the effort of using the Force across the galaxy can kill someone (foreshadowing Luke's death) and Carrie filmed an entire scene where she tells Rey that she could feel that Luke had passed and obviously that would had to have been done prior to her death in December 2016, not a last minute "F U" to Hamill by Kennedy or whomever at LFL.

Agreed.
