The OT may have had a few total duds in terms of creature design (Yuzzum, I'm looking at you) but jeez the PT and ST creatures - what a train wreck. I really liked a few of the new designs in RO (e.g. Tubes guy), but there were very few creatures in the PT or ST that I felt were at the level of Greedo, Ree Yees, Yoda, Jabba, Hammerhead, Ackbar - even Nien Nunb.

And the PT images above don't even include the worst ones, like this one direct from the Longs Drugs Halloween $1 clearance bin:

Yeah, Rogue One had 4 or 5 cool-looking alien designs (white furry dude, rebel aliens) and no dumb ones from what I recall.

I’m hoping the PT shot wasn’t supposed to represent more impressive designs as only 2 or 3 are interesting looking.

So many of the ST aliens look like variations of the same basic design.

this is my favorite PT design...

Even more than Maul...these guys were downright creepy

Yeah, he got into the Salacious Crumb type category ....just not as good.

Which isn’t saying much.

ST wise , the pilot aliens , except Nein Numb, looks hokey.

I agree with not having a burning need to know "what comes next" but honestly I'm totally fine with that. Too often movies feel like a setup to the next installment with either no resolution ever coming or resolution only coming (satisfyingly anyway) in the final episode/sequel. ANH wasn't like that. Sure Vader gets away but it's a wholly satisfying experience unto itself. I'm not knocking all cliffhangers because obviously that would include ESB but I love that so many major things happened/were revealed in TLJ that it can serve as an easy/satisfying jumping off point for both haters and fans alike. You're already dismissing Episode IX which is fine and what's nice for me is that if Episode IX sucks I can dismiss it too without having to forsake TLJ. I'll just forever say that the Saga ended when Luke died and that future generations of good and evil will just forever be dealing with their own conflicts. Since according to Disney the Saga will never end at some point we'll all have to pick our own personal jumping off points whether it be in the middle or end of any given trilogy anyway.

That's a bit fatalistic.:lol

I recall the interminable, theory-filled wait to see what ROTJ would bring. Yes, some of what it delivered was goofy even at that age, but people have had a great time mocking all the fan theories between TFA and TLJ - but they miss the point that that type of conjecture is part of the fun of SW. It showed passion for the material - but people are now like : "Haha, Rian certainly got you and your dumb theories, didn't he - Mr. 40-year-old ponytail!"

I would worry about a movie that subverts and even mocks the whole damn thing but hey, maybe heading to IX with no burning questions isn't a problem. Because I agree with your last sentence - part of the problem with the MCU model (that DC and SW now follow) is there is no end - it just goes on and on, every year, so the whole experience feels less special and therefore less memorable. You love the brand, not necessarily the story.

Maybe TLJ's cynical approach will be looked back upon as the perfect take on SW - that at the point we have a new SW every year for the next 20 years no matter what, then it is time to mock it and burn the whole house down.

Dang, you're not the first person I've chatted with online who read ESB's spoilers in the novelization before seeing the film but I just can't imagine being robbed of experiencing such an all-time defining cinematic revelation on the big screen (at least for those of us who were alive and going to movies at the time of the film's release.)

Eh, the long term health and well-being implications of spoilers are the social construct of an entitled generation. Back in the day we were more concerned with beatings (from parents, teachers, bus drivers, etc,) alcoholism and serial killers.:lol

I read it (and it's a **** book in retrospect btw) again after finally finding a SW carded Boba Fett in San Rafael in April/May 1980, the day before I met all the ILM employee locals at a diner who gave me even more stuff. Them's was the days.:yess::lol

He is actually 100 percent correct thou, I can here to discuss the film and what it means for the characters , you know typical post view discussion...

What we got for weeks was a parade of people discussing the same thing....

It sucks why don’t you think so?
It’s great , why don’t you think so?

I am kinda happy most of the detractors have moved on. Mostly.....

Hopefully , eventually we can get to actually discussing the film and the story and what it means for the characters n such!?

Or am I a dreamer?

But... there are some empirically, objectively sucky things in TLJ there's really no debating - lactating sea cow, space Leia, 3/4 of Canto Bight, the Poe/Hux "I'll hold" slapstick bit (missing only Billy Crystal as Hux's underling to cut away to,) Maz's selfie-mode drone Go-pro viewed on the Oz Wicked Witch's crystal ball, the FO riding the Resistance's bumper slo-mo "chase," the line-by-line rip-off of Luke's confrontation with the Emperor in ROTJ used for Rey's confrontation with Snoke.

And nobody EVER talks about Luke's cartoon fish. We WILL get to that.:lol

The only ST alien I had an immediate negative reaction to was the guy stuffing coins in BB-8.

You had no problem with the fat eight-balloon-****s lady singing in the Casino?

90% of what you call objective is not. I had not problems with any of it....

Only space Leia and BB8 rescue.

The thing with Luke and the milk is so overblown. People didn’t like seeing a farm boy milks something an drink it?
Gee whizz welcome to reality...no problem with the fishing? Why cause it was Jedi like? What if he ate the raw fish? Now it’s a problem.

I personally love that scene, especially for the look he give Rey....

It’s like , see this? This is who I am, not your space hero ....just a hermit dude drinking milk from a space cow....it said
More about Luke and where he was in state of mind that throwing saber away.

Again , this is all my subjective opinion.
