I'm really looking forward to how the Rey/Kylo hookup will piss people off.

I wonder if the Leia/Han hookup was met with such malice back when ESB came out.

The Jedi never represented balance to me, anymore than practitioners of the dark side did. Sure, the Empire did terrible things, but they also provided a lot of employment, and security from foreign threats, etc. I bet violent crimes would go way down in heavily patrolled Empire-controlled territories. Of course, the Jedis weren't total goody goodies in that they used the force, but mostly they were. And Khev acknowledges this with the "just enough" dark side comment. That's an imbalance by definition. But I agree that the talk about "balance" was mostly gobbledygook to this point, and there was never a clear idea about what it actually meant. Now, they may be trying to rectify that, but the end result (gray Jedi or whatever) may not make people happy :lol

"The Sith rely on their passion for their strength. They think inwards. Only about themselves."

"From my point of view the Jedi are evil."

"I see through the lies of The Jedi. I do not fear the Dark Side as you do."

Anakin was the first Gray. The Jedi feared him and The Sith used him.

Luke's entire view of his Father's actions will be vastly different in TLJ.

Yeah, that's why I put the word "balance" in quotes. Meaning a balancing act between using the Light Side and a little bit of the Dark Side (as you acknowledged) but not a straight 50/50 relationship between Light and Dark.

Anakin was the first Gray.

Hnnng. Stop. :lol (Or by all means continue, I'm actually enjoying this super geeky back and forth.)

Luke's entire view of his Father's actions will be vastly different in TLJ.

It shouldn't be any different since Yoda himself taught Luke aspects of the Dark Side (lifting rocks, the X-Wing, etc.) Remember, the movies depict two aspects of training: Powers and state of mind. You can use the Dark Side if you have the right state of mind. Lifting a ship so you can save your friends: okay. Lifting a pear for lolz: not okay. Same power, can be used for good or evil, or in a way that serves you or consumes you. Jedi and Sith alike have always tapped into both light and dark, it's not a new thing that needs its own name.

Now the PT did introduce the notion that there are certain Dark Side powers that are "unnatural," which I would assume includes Force Lighting and possibly raising the dead. Those powers are probably off limits to Jedi under any circumstance.

All this talk about light side and dark side reminds me of Spaceballs.

HELMET - "Yogurt. Yogurt. I hate Yogurt! Even with strawberries!"

SANDURZ - "I'll call the attack squad, sir."

HELMET - "No, we can't go in there. Yogurt has the Schwartz! It's far too powerful."

SANDURZ- "But, sir, your ring. Don't you have the Schwartz, too?"

HELMET - "No, he got the up-side. I got the down-side. You see, there's two kinds of every Schwartz."

So Anakin brought balance to the force?

And if he didn't, Luke did.

Either way, this sequel trilogy is worthless if it does indeed dredge up the whole idea about balance and Rey being another chosen one yet again. It's already been done. With the way they're going now, the sequel trilogy is just a rehashed OT and PT rolled into one.

Old Luke = Obi-Wan and Yoda, Jedi Knight's forced into exile after their kind are wiped out (much to their own doing for training a dangerous person)

Kylo Ren = Anakin/Vader, failed apprentice who is lured to the Dark Side and wipes out the Jedi (is that dangerous person)

Rey = Luke/Anakin, raised in secret on a desert planet who finds their true potential

When I was a kid, there was never "teh balance of da force" or any of that ****. They just keep making it more and more complicated with these stupid Harry Potter tier prophecies. Revenge of the Sith covered everything from the OT and PT, it was done. Palpatine and Vader wiped out all the Jedi, just like they were meant to. There were two Sith Lords left and two Jedi. Balance. Luke comes in, doesn't obey Obi-Wan and Yoda's teachings and doesn't fall prey to Vader and Palpatine's "temptations" (or whatever they were offering him :lol). Balance. gray, non-dark or light, whatever the ****. Both the story lines in OT and the PT were fulfilled.

If you're just an OT guy, you got what you wanted with those two or three movies (for the most part). Luke's journey from wide eyed farmboy to wise Jedi Knight and Vader's redemption. If you're a PT guy, you got your bookends from what was established in TPM to ROTS (two Sith, no more, no less or whatever) and the story of Anakin's fall and the Emperor/Empire/Vader's rise. If you're a fan of all 6, you got your whole balance BS. The second Vader redeems himself by throwing Palps over the rails, saving his son, all is made right in the universe with the combined trilogies.

There were no loose ends.

I was already annoyed that TFA decided that the Empire/Rebellion conflict hadn't been fully resolved, but saying that Luke hadn't even figured out how to be a "proper" Jedi yet either? Too much.

So according to the new trilogy:

"You've failed your Highness..." --Nope, the remnants of the Empire are just going to keep wiping out planet after planet

"...I am a Jedi like my father before me." --Nope, because you haven't learned teh powah of teh Grayzzzz

Dayum Jye. Homevideos, girlfriends, choking . . . yo girl is a FREAK.

Does she make good sammiches too?

Actually i'm the freak, i'm up to what now 54k posts lol

Here's the deal, and I had 2 older brothers to show me the right way.

I've seen people put more effort into leasing a car than choosing their life partner.

I knew that for me to give up my selfish needs and freedoms that I needed to do my homework first thru lots of trail and error.

Instead of going after looks first I wanted a non smoker great hygiene free spirited frisky brunette girl first, then looks would be a nice extra as would being a movie geek who enjoyed cooking like I do.

I finally found one with all of those qualities minus the geek component but that naturally evolved just from being together to form a well rounded person lol.

17 years later we are still going strong.

I think jye is trying to say that his wife chokes him.

lolololololol

I think by "wife" he's trying to say Khev :monkey3

If Khev was a girl he would be Capt Phasma.

So Anakin brought balance to Lucas's check book?

Yes a very high one.

Of course this conversation will largely be moot if TLJ doesn't try to shoehorn in EU elements from that comic writer in 2001 that Sachiel's post mentioned. Jury's out until December.

It does seem likely though. The First Avenger and Tommy Lee Jones just seems to be apeing everything that came before it. People can get as excited as they want, but we've already seen a kid training to be a Jedi. We've already seen the youth in awe and excitement over the resurgence of an ancient order long forgotten. We've already seen two Jedi come out of exile to train a student. Instead of a ****ing island, it was a swamp. We've already seen a fallen student wipe out the Jedi, succumbing to darkness. We've seen a student rise up against expectations and be a force of good. We've seen more attack on a space station than I'm sure most of us care to. We've seen the rise of an Empire and the fall of an Empire. We've seen a prophecy fulfilled.

We've seen Han Solo in his prime.

I can see it now. The Star Wars sequel sequel trilogy! The adventure begins in 2022 with Episode 10 The Phantom Hope Awakens! Watch as Rey blames herself for the disappearance of the Jedi and the rise of the Second Order and their super weapon, Starcrusher! Behold, Rey reluctantly training her apprentice, the first Chinese-Mexican transgender orphan from the desert planet Nottoine as s/he finds the truth of the force, that it's one of many colors!

FTFY. Otherwise, that's a damn good premise dare I say, yessir!

There's epic then there's beyond epic.

That's the latter lol.
