Mark Hamill is a liberal cuck. I can't stand his liberal anti Trump tweets. (God he's even against the trans military ban)

Anyways not trying to make this about politics. But is anyone else having a hard time trying to keep the character out of the real person? (this movie or others?) This is why actors need to act and STFU! Ah, to be a kid again and be in full bliss mode. I don't even want to get the new HT ep7 Luke cause it will remind me of his liberal ass. (I know that's my fault and on me lol)

Just look at the character as Luke i keep telling myself. I don't know as i get older, i have a hard time not seeing these people for what they truly are. (just got to differentiate as hard as it may be i guess)

Actors cannot have opinions? The new America?

Probably easier for you to just turn your attention to people you agree with.

It's up to you how much you let the goings on of the actors and such of the world impact your enjoyment of their art.

When Napster came out, I saw people who'd defend Metallica to the death turn on them without a second's hesitation because Lars was protesting and fighting to shut down Napster, an act which had no bearing on how the music sounds or what the music may mean to you.

Plenty of celebrities do things I don't care for in real life, but their role in my life is to entertain me and take me away from my day to day life. Do I agree with Mark Hamill, perhaps not, but for 2.5 hours, for a single movie, he's not Mark Hamill, he's Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight and no less the hero I grew up loving now than he was when I was 4.

I totally understand someone taking issue with an actors views. And then having the integrity never to watch any film or show they are in because of it. It's admirable.

Mark Hamilton is a beta. And yes, it is hard to see Luke when you so much leftist garbage behind it. But like maulfan said their job is to entertain. Just wish that's all they'd do.

It's all about political correctness regardless whether it's right or wrong. Most people have no sense or Moral. Yes, it certainly does make it harder to like these people for what and who they truely are.

It's admirable, but certainly not necessary. In this example, watching the original trilogy films doesn't further the agenda of Mark Hamill's political views or support them, they're separate.

Given rumors, there may be some argument around watching the next two New Trilogy films as there may be some agenda in them that you don't agree with as it seems Disney is taking a different approach than Lucas.

I wish people did walk the walk, though. The culture of whining is the real problem we need to address in this country.

I agree that most people cannot seem to form independent opinions anymore without relying on their favorite, partisan infotainment source as a crutch. But the issue here is about people who are unable to disentangle the opinions of an entertainer from a character someone plays in a movie or TV show.

Would anyone give two ****s if the guy who bags their groceries is a communist, or a cryptofascist? What about the woman who cuts their hair? Or their accountant? Why should an actor or actress be any different? Entertainers are people who work for us. We pay money so that they will do sing or dance or play make-believe. That's it. The vast majority of actors are *******s behind the scenes, and they only put on a front of being relatable, non-offensive, and friendly as PR. I respect Jeff Goldblum for not pandering to audiences. But ironically, the folks who complain about PC this and PC that are the first ones to get up in arms about someone actually speaking their mind. :dunno "I hate all those people who are so PC, because they say something I don't like, and they should shut the **** up and not offend me or make me uncomfortable. Give me my safe space so that I can be deprive someone else of theirs."

If it really bothers you, don't watch Hammil's movies. Problem solved. But unless someone does something truly heinous like molesting a young child or killing someone, put it in the proper damn perspective. If someone thinks Disney is part of a vast, left-wing conspiracy, then folks can do the same thing. Go watch the next documentary about Hillary running child sex rings out of pizza restaurants instead. Same thing about people who are offended by John Voight or Tim the Toolman Taylor being a conservative. Don't watch Toy Story 4 or their, uh, DTV Anaconda spin-offs. The incessant whining is so damn tiresome.

Translated for brevity: OMG I can't stand it when people share opinions different than my own. Especially celebrities. OMG!!!

Thanks Maulfan for actually providing an answer to my question. I will take it to heart.

Wait, off topic but is he really? Hello brother!:wave

Sorry, but where I'm from Mormons are a pretty rare so it's always great meeting another. Sorry if it was just a joke and you really aren't.

You are awfully fond of shushing other people. Might I recommend you move to a cabin somewhere in deep isolation away from the internet. It may suit you better. :)

Well said IMO. And there is that quote which I can't remember exactly about never meet your on-screen heroes, because it's kinda disappointing to find out they're just like everyone else. (And maybe don't look as cool without makeup:monkey3)

Sure, it makes me think about canceling my HT ROTJ Luke PO. I avoided the QMX Trek Picard for that reason. Not so much because I can't separate a 30+ year fantasy role from the actor today, but because there's just much else to collect these days, like the NECA turtles and Prime 1 TF/GIJoe/Batman statues! I will always appreciate the OT+PT as products of their time, even if I don't watch them much anymore.

Artists tend to be emotionally impressionable, and with actors using their fame as a platform, I guess that's something we'll have to live with. If it helps, try following fandoms whose protagonists are not tied to an actor, like videogames, books, etc.
