Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Its not that I hate Star Wars, its that I don't believe it has anything left to offer me.

Its tapped out.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Like I always say: nobody hates SW more than ironically the most die hard of SW fans. Your friends are a testament to this.

The classic trilogy had powerful cultural relevance - beyond visuals and space battles and creatures, it resonated deeply for people in a mythic sense. Something that informed their lives for years.

The idea that choosing not go along with what subjectively feels like a wrong-headed reinterpretation (or for some, even a betrayal) of those powerful stories is "hate" is just lame imho.

Hamill himself expressed "hate" (or at least very strong displeasure) toward the material, and now fans are seeing it, and some are agreeing. Is Hamill - who is also a diehard fan - also a testament to the "hate"?

Rey will be a Jedi Master and have a group of Jedi Knights and Kylo will be a Sith Lord with his Knights of Ren.

No, the little boy with the broom and Force powers who looks to the sky for a "when you wish upon a star" moment.

I had read about them playing with "Star Wars" toys.

Well I've always noticed that there are Star Wars fans...and then there are really vocal folks who often declare themselves the "true" fans but they are actually not...they simply dug Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back and literally hate everything else movie wise that has the Star Wars logo attached to it. 2 out of 9 is not even close to a passing grade so it's a little ridiculous to consider one's self a Star Wars "fan" under those circumstances.

Hamill certainly did not express "hate." If I remember correctly he stated fairly directly that he "fundamentally disagreed with the direction" that Johnson was taking the Luke character in the screenplay. He subsequently clarified that he came around to Johnson's vision.

Got back from opening night...

I don't know how to feel. That's not a good thing.

There was so much I really liked in the film. The Rey and Kylo scenes alone were great.

But...there were so much un-star wars like stuff in it.

The jokes...SO MANY JOKES. WHY WERE THERE SO MANY JOKES!!!

Finn's whole plot thread felt so out of place and unimportant. Could have shaved most of that off to make the movie shorter and I wouldn't feel like I missed anything important.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I have Luke, Rey, Kylo and a couple Praetorian Guards on PO and I’m glad that’ll be it from this movie. I still count Poe in X-Wing Gear a part of TFA but I’m glad this movie didn’t make me want anything else.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Rose wasn't as annoying as I thought she would be. Didn't really care for the don't eat meat message, but eating fish is ok? Luke truly didn't care where his light saber came from? Snoke & Phasma? What a waste of characters. At the end of the day , its Star Wars and I got to see it with my 9 year old who was absolutely blown away by it!

Merely disagreeing with some of the choices made for a film and despising anything that doesn't recapture the "magic" of the OT simply because that's what you're partial to because of the nostalgia factor, are two different things.

I don't expect anything SW to recapture the magic of the OT because that's what I grew up with; I'm emotionally attached to it. Even if TFA was or if TLJ is fundamentally a better film than the OT films, it still won't capture the same "magic" the OT had and leave as much of an impression on me and I'll always be partial to thinking nothing can hold a candle to the OT.

Regardless if I agree with the decisions or not like a particular film, I personally enjoy and am a fan of SW as a whole and whether I like it or not, accept that what happened in the PT is what happened before the OT and that whatever happens in the ST (regardless if I agree with it or not), is what happened post OT.

I also took my 9 and 6 year old to see it. And we have been talking about the movie for 3 strait hours. They, "we" loved it.

Didn't like it.

Coming from a guy who dressed his pug as Yoda.

WAY too many non-SW moments. Too much humor at wrong time. Some TERRIBLE casting choices.

Very, very let down.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

He subsequently clarified that he came around to Johnson's vision.

After Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson roughed him up a bit.

Watch Kennedy interrupt him at Celebration and Johnson's aggressive clapping (3:40 in last video). :lol

It's damage control.

I just got home from TLJ and have absolutely no idea what I just saw

I give it a 6.5/10. The Kylo/Rey scenes were my favorite part. But the humor was a little forced more than I would have figured. I liked the main storyline. Like I said, the potential was there. But some odd parts and weird sequences. I’ll watch it again.
