Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

This should’ve been the right reaction

Adam’s reaction when Rian wrote the scene and Adam read the script

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Going into it, I'm not crazy about the fact that Luke dies in it, I disagree with that decision on the surface. But I'll have to see how he's handled overall and see if he's as "mishandled" as what people are claiming him to be.

I'm going into it pretty open minded though. I don't expect this film (just like any other SW film) to touch the OT for me.

There seems to be a theory that Hamill didn't know Luke was supposed to die at the time of filming, that it was added later. It's possible because he dies in a wide CGI shot in the distance.

It's very strange because he seems to fully recover from his force projection just fine in all the shots that actually show Hamill onscreen.

My guess is they felt there wasn't enough of a kick emotionally with Luke surviving, so decided to kill him off. Bottom line is, despite what some are saying (citing a line Kylo says to Rey about their force-texting potentially killing her,) there isn't anything presented onscreen that clearly says he had to die given what he does. He's obviously really drained, but he's shown recovering.

The thing that really bugged me about it is that it leaves the impression that Luke just kinda gave up and willed himself to die (like suicide,) not that he was killed by the force projection itself. The idea that a bitter old Luke, after a final moment to shine, essentially committed suicide.

I think Luke's true reason for going into hiding is because, after he became famous for ending the Empire, he clearly went on a sex-spree and knocked up a galaxy full of women out there... the many Broom Babies are just waking up to their powers. No wonder he killed himself.

Yeah, that's my pre gripe as well, based on how he dies. Like he's there, and then just suddenly, gone. Just like that. If I didn't know he was going to die before seeing the movie and was surprised by it, I think I would probably be sitting there like, "wait, so Luke is gone? That's it for Luke?"

I edited the post of mine you quoted though and included a quote of what I felt was a pretty good post from a member made in TLJ Luke thread, that kind of helps take the sting off of his death. So going into the film, I'll keep that in mind as well.

Yeah where is Khev? I look forward to hearing his opinion.

I didn't dislike the lightsaber gag at the beginning, I like it when movies disregard something that is deemed to be important, I think the problem was that it came from the wrong place and the rest of the movie shows more symptoms of this, already mentioned by other people.

.

Why couldn’t Luke do that with his saber to Palapatine

Because that's what Palpatine wanted....he totally told Luke that by doing so, he would be corrupt and go to the dark side, which is totally counterproductive if he secretly really wanted Luke to turn evil. Worst trickster ever :lol

Hard reality for some to accept......Disney has a large demographic with MCU and SW and old time fans represent the smallest faction they are concerned about satisfying.....

We’ll get a curtesy rub to spark interest but as Luke said “this isn’t going to go as you think.”

I’ll always have the OT and enjoy from afar everything else....

REEEEEEEEEEEE

It may be fantasy, but in Star Wars you can't fly or breathe in space!!!!!

Jedi can't hold their breath!

The ships have airlocks! The very conception of Vader's breathing mask was out of a need to travel from ship to ship during boardings.

I can buy a Jedi's body disappearing when they die. I can accept moving **** with your mind and jumping/flipping all over the place like a god damn frog. ****, I can even dig Kylo stopping laser bolts mid blast. But Super Leia I can't abide by, I just can't. Everyone in that room with her exploded and were met with a grisly demise. Poor Ackbar's head is probably floating in space. But Leia is suddenly invincible, can breathe/hold her breath in space? No, NO!

sigh, I'll just leave this 10 year old article about another space movie here. I guess people don't think Force telekinesis works in the vacuum of space and I know science and biology won't change any minds but here you go...

The old guard is dying like Luke. Many wish to see the OTers gone already. But one day, not so long from now, a new generation will regard us as gods.

I hated JL. It's a TERRIBLE movie. I hated WW. It's a terrible SJW movie.

You were saying?

Oh you are one of those conspiracy guys that sees a SJW behind every tree branch. Ok. Got it.

So I assume you married a man so you couldn't be accused of marrying of woman because she was a woman.

It's no different than when a sports team makes personnel changes. Does it suck? Yeah but it has to happen at some point
