This guy gets it (and is apparently not on the Disney payroll).

Yup, the man speaks truth.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I would say it felt like an extremely expensive fanfilm, but I don't believe the people running the show actually even care about Star Wars. Being a bad film is one thing, but this is the last time we will ever see Luke Skywalker, something so many people have been waiting decades for (also why the ST has been as successful as it's been imo) and he's finally revealed to be a broken coward who dies alone in a terrible excuse for a movie.

Funny thing when I think about it, the prequels had a great story but horrible dialogue. I feel like the premise was there, but poor execution. I though TFA was good overall, good story, decent dialog, chemistry, but TLJ.....idk wtf is going on here.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I don’t think there was any strategic point to that, at all. That whole scene was meant for eye candy and nothing more.

I suppose that you have not watched the movie?

The red particles are salt and they have to stabilise the old speeders via stabilising poles thus them leaving the trail of salt dust.

Does that sound as silly writing it out than it did seeing it in the movie?

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Why do they "need" to do that? Because you didn't like it?

They don't "need" to do anything except form their own opinion about the film, just as you did.

Didn't I read you haven't seen it yet?

Edit: Yes. Lol, glad you have an opinion on something you haven't seen. :lol. You have been on the "pro" side from every post I've seen.

Agreed. Luke is and always will be a hero of mine. To see his character being alarmingly dismantled in such a joke fashion on screen was a god awful experience. As for an expensive fan film... Jesus I've seen much better SW fan films than that pile of dog puke!

I don't need to have seen it yet in order to disagree that other people need to dislike it just because you did. That's like saying I can't have an opinion on slavery because I don't have an elevated level of melanin content in my skin and/or didn't have to go through it.

The only thing they need to do is form their opinion based on their own merits, just as you did, and just as I will do once I have seen the film. Regardless of what anyone else thought.

For instance, what's your favorite guitar brand? Whatever it is, wouldn't you disagree if I were to say: "Hey, that guitar brand is crap. So I'm going to need you to take off the rose colored glasses and see it for the pile of crap it really is." And someone else doesn't have to have played that certain guitar brand in order to disagree with me when I say that you need to take off the rose colored glasses and dislike that brand, simply because I dislike it.

Holy crap even Rorywan didn't like it :lol

ahem.. I'm actually quite discerning when it comes to Star Wars.. but if it looks, feels and smells like Star Wars I will cut it an incredible amount of slack. Nostalgia, rose (ugh) tinted glasses whatnot.
I had major problems with TFA when it came out - dodgy acting, soft reboot/remake etc.. but it had Driver, it had some killer scenes and it set-up a potentially cool part VII and VIII, that's what it was really a set-up chapter for some new story lines. Little did I know that Last Jedi would basically start again and obliterate and negate all those story lines in favour of very ****** storylines and ****ing bizarrely non Star Wars humour.
And don't start me on the ****ing Disney kids at the end.

Listen Mr "worlds biggest fanboy director - Rian Johnson" look at Rogue One again.. see what they did with K2SO? you know the funny bits? the sarcasm and dropping Jyn's bag? that was Star Wars humour. Luke throwing the lightsaber over his shoulder was ****ing slapstick **** that SNL would have done (better). JJ must be rightly ****ed off that you turned the end of his movie into a stupid joke.

Leave the franchise now please and shut the door on Bob Iger's fingers on the way out the door.

My take on the movie in a nutshell:

I 100% see where people are coming from with hating the movie. i also 100% see where people are coming from with enjoying the movie.

I just enjoy Star Wars, even if the story and character progression isn't what I want. It's not my story, i just feel fortunate to enjoy the stories. I don't want to be so emotionally distraught over the events or the (mis)handling of the characters because Star Wars is a nice escape for me, and don't want to ruin that escape for me. So simply put, I try to just be light hearted about the whole thing.

There are definitely elements in the movie that were unnecessary, like the Finn/Rose arc and the Canto Bight sequences, and definitely some things that don't make sense. I really thought it was stupid that Admiral Holdo wouldn't tell anyone the plan- talk about horrible leadership.

I do think the ST could have been handled differently- make have the first movie be about Luke's Jedi academy and the downfall, then bring in the rise of Kylo Ren, etc. Could still be the same storyline if they wanted to- just focus on the important time periods more.

As far as Luke, I can see where people don't like the way he was handled, and I also can see where people do like the way he was handled. I'm disappointed there wasn't much of his green lightsaber, was hoping that would have been more of a reveal. What I do enjoy is the parallels of Luke to Obi Wan and Yoda- jaded, grumpy hermit because of failures. It seems like all exiled Jedi masters develop quirky personalities lol. People are saying "This isn't what we know of Luke's character." but that's the point-we don't know much of Luke's character as he got older. We know his character in a span of age 19-24 or whatever in the OT, but there has been WAY more time we don't know about his character than what we do know, around 30 years. Not defending the handling of his character per se, just applying logic that there's more timeframe where we don't know about Luke than we do.
The ending with Luke, upon further thought, is really cool to me. It harkens back to Yoda saying "Jedi use the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." Which is exactly what Luke does- he is using it for defense in a sacrificial way, even though we are made to think it's for attack. I think in my own personal fandom it would have been awesome to see Luke ignite the green lightsaber and use the Force to destroy First Order and go out with a bang; but think it speaks volumes that Luke does as his final act exactly what Yoda told him years prior that Jedi should be doing. Personally think they could have not killed Luke off in this movie and saved him for IX, but hopefully they can bring him back a lot as a Force ghost (some would say why kill him off then?). I just hope we can see more of Luke in future material- I'd LOVE for a tv show or something based on his Jedi Academy.

I'm still processing the movie, positives and negatives, but figure my thoughts could spark more fun conversation.

After seeing this, I have the same questions I did after TFA, WHo is Snoke, and who are Rey's parents?

Ben and Rey's connection really truly felt like they were setting it up as if they were brother sister. If they actually choose to never answer these questions and leaving it as is, then shame on them.

I fear they're setting up Reylo or should that be ****ting up...
