I'm sure she knows that, but will continue to cater to other groups to expand the brand, hence ... Rose.

I understand that as a company they should go after everyone, but SW was a boy brand, which is one of the reasons Disney went after Marvel and SW to begin with, to have more brands that appeal to boys, since Disney already had a strong female base and brand with the Disney princesses and animated films, according to " industry business experts."

I guess, they feel that the SW fanbase, which is overwhelmingly male, will support the brand regardless, hence Kennedy saying things like, "I don’t feel that I have a responsibility to cater in some way to male fans, I would never just seize on saying, ‘Well, this is a franchise that’s appealed primarily to men for many, many years, and therefore I owe men something.'”

A "boy brand???" Tell that to my wife and numerous other women who are as passionate or more passionate about Star Wars than many male so called "fans" that I know. This explains a lot of the Last Jedi hate out there...bizarre notions that Star Wars should be about boys and for boys...yikes!

And yet... less than a 10% female uptick in opening weekend audience TFA vs TLJ.

That’s actually a sizable shift. I thought you were saying a 10% increase (as in 30% to 33%), but it looks like it went from between 29% to 33% for TFA to 38% for RO and 42% in TLJ. That’s a pretty decent shift in a short amount of time.

Women don't like Star Wars, not hot ones anyway. Some will pretend, like the slave Leia cosplayers you see, but most don't like or understand it. The weird antisocial ones that have an art degree and smell like cabbage like it I guess, but those women don't count (just like those kind of men you see aren't really men).

Tonight, I want you to double check your wife's gender while she's sleeping. If she does indeed like Star Wars, you may be surprised what you see when you pull down those covers.

Best wishes

You know people in this thread are talking about demographics, right? I mean thats great you want to turn what he said into some personal slight against your wife, but thats not exactly how Math works and stuff.

I don't think he meant to say Star Wars doesn't appeal to any women.
But they are still a minority though, and a big majority of the fans that spend hundreds or thousands every year on merch are males.

OK.

"Hey Jal76's wife....Star Wars is for boys. You might claim to be 'passionate' about it but I guarantee you, you're just a tourist compared to us."

Spoken like a true...lady-less, and lonely loser...my wife is both beautiful and a Star Wars fan but your contact with ladies is admittedly limited (especially from a basement) so perhaps your understanding of what women are interested in is equally limited :)

it is the same way of how there arent many men that are fans of twilight, 50 shades of grey or sex and the city....

different demographics of people like different things.
i never understood why this is a bad thing. or why it is fought against or why people wanna force change and inclusion where it doesnt belong.

imagine if i tried to make twilight appeal to men by hiring playboy bunnies as the vampires and made them wear bikinis every day.....
why? why ruin something women love? why do i need to ruin THEIR thing by pushing males into their fandom.....

i personally like watching the twilight movies because i like the vampire aspects of it and yes the romance is cringey as hell.........
but IM NOT The TARGET AUDIENCE.... the romance is corny and i have to deal with that if i wanna watch it,
it isnt fair for me to change it to accommodate MY TASTES
i should be the one accomodating to their story and fanbase

Folks who were trying to declare TLJ a financial failure now have to face the reality that though it was not the 2nd fastest to 300 or 400 million that was based upon when the holidays fell because it was still the 2nd fastest to reach 500 million behind only TFA...the other bitter pill is that in 18 days it has made as much as Rogue One made in its entire 140 days of release...looks like under Kathleen Kennedy's leadership and Rian Johnson's vision Star Wars is going strong. Sorry guys.

I guess you must think avatar and titanic are the best movies ever, right?

And that Britney Spears made so much coz she was so good at what she did.

I guess the beauty and beast remake is so much better than the original coz it did a cool billion right?

No one said it’ll be a financial failure, SW is money in the bank. It’s just going to be interesting to see how much it underperforms, and what effect that has on future SW movies. The ratings speak for themselves that this has a very mixed reception. You’re the only one picking and choosing information to bolster ‘your side.’

If your wife saw my doll collection, she'd leave you for me. I promise you.

I was referring to the last 40 years of films and merchandising...before little Rey and her twin from RO.

And looky, more personal insults. Why don’t you talk about what you liked about the movie? The people who don’t like it have valid points. Why all the personal insults?

I’m sure my wife’s even hotter than yours (oho!) and she doesn’t like SW... do I win? Is this really your main point? Have a real conversation man.

As much as I love TFA and TLJ I do recognize that neither film has given kids a new male hero to latch onto. I even asked my own kids (11 year old daughter, 8 year old son) who their favorite male and female good guys were from the new movies and while they both instantly picked Rey as the female (Jyn got the shaft on account of "no lightsaber, Force, or spaceship" but in time they'll come around ;)) who did they pick among the males? Han in TFA and Luke in TLJ. No Finn. No Poe. Even for me my favorite male character after Luke in TLJ was Benicio Del Toro. That's a big change from the OT where even though it was mostly a boy's story all the girls still had Leia, a prominent hero and massive icon in her own right. No such equivalent in the new flicks yet.

Very true. Honestly I was thinking Finn might really end up being a likeable hero, given his unique backstory and his predicament at the end of tfa. I wanted to see how he came back from that and where they took him. ‘We can rebuild him. We have the technology.’ :lol

Unfortunately I feel he was wasted in TLJ.
