Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

"Unforeseen Circumstances."

You mean lack of interest.

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

So no more 3D printed Star Wars collectibles?

No more astronomical prices?

No more incredibly large collectible crates that take up too much space?

Oh no!

:banana

LOL. We'll see what happens next, maybe yet another company will test these waters. For now we have long defunct Icons (with its issues) & Master Replicas (the most regretted company in the field), comatose EFX, limbo Anovos, and a freshly dead corpse of PropShop

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

Haha this.

Seriously I'd rather have them out of the picture and see an MR-like brand take that spot.

Wonder if their stuff is going to sell for more on the aftermarket though. I mean if it cost more than $4,000 to get the Vader helmet from them, are people going to pay $6,000 now? :lol

By the time the melted Vader helmet gets to $6000 it will turn into 3D printer dust, along with other props made that way...

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

Sad to see a Star Wars replica company shut down but I'm not surprised.

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

I really think the whole idea behind this company was "wow, look at how much people are paying for that MR ANH Luke Skywalker lightsaber, there must be a market for $1k+ lightsabers out there and we are completely ignoring it". Ofc things don't work like that...

Propshop would probably still be alive if they had aimed for the $600-700 range which is what most (used) MR lightsabers sell for, opened their sales to the international market and not just the US, and ofc didn't include those absurd taxes and shipping costs from the start.

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

You would think they would be able to finish the orders they already took. There couldn't have been that much of a backlog. Pretty crappy treatment for those who actually wanted their props and ordered.

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

I hope this sends a message to manufacturers about how fragile this industry is. Maybe then we will begin to see more competitive prices and better quality products.

Propshop wasn't just a replica company, though - they actually worked on the films (which makes this even more baffling). It's not clear from their website whether or not it's the whole thing that's shut down or just the replicas production, but given the call I just had from Disney regarding a purchase refund, I think it's the whole lot.

Although I'm sure they have far more serious issues to deal with themselves right now, I'm personally quite frustrated as I had quite an extensive order with them which was due in the next couple of weeks - team members had even been out to my house to see how they could get some of the larger stuff in (some stuff that wasn't on the website).

I was shown around their facility just after I placed my order and was able to see some of the other upcoming stuff (as far as I'm aware, my NDA may still hold, so no details...) and it's a shame to know it will never see the light of day :(

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

That must have been a heck of an order.

Aside from all the weapons and melted Vader helmet, there were two storm troopers, a life-size BB-8 and the sofa & chess table from the Falcon (hence the home visit for planning). I was really looking forward to that sofa, too :(

Ho-hum. Nothing I can do about it, just have to wait for Disney / Harrods to process the refund...

Wow, sorry to hear. That would've been quite the collection. :)

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

Some posts on the RPF thread made it sound pretty definitively like it was the actual prop side of things that was the issue. Durability problems on the set of TFA and apparently the new Blade Runner film. If props were really coming apart/breaking to pieces during the filming of TFA, as we've heard from people in the know previously, I guess that's no surprise. I'm guessing they lost the contracts they had for that film and whatever Star Wars work they were doing/had pending.

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

People should start selling their PropShop 3D printed items fast, before turning into dust... :impatient:

That explains why Belloq pulled dust out of the Ark in Raiders. This company must have been in charge of making the Ten Commandment Tablet props.

Re: Star Wars Ultimate Studio Edition Prop Replicas

Just received this after I emailed prop shop stating my disappointment after waiting 13 weeks for nothing. Plus I'm still awaiting refund.
I feel the refund should came before any rumors. Ohh well now what can I buy ???

Our vendor is no longer able to fulfill existing or future orders for this program and, due to the unique nature of the vendor’s relationship to the film production, we did not feel that changing vendors was in keeping with the spirit of the program. All orders that have not yet been filled will be provided a full refund.

The Star Wars Collectibles line has been halted indefinitely due to our vendor Propshop entering into Administration in the UK (bankruptcy). Your order cannot be fulfilled and you will receive a full refund.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

:lol

The thing is RPF members are convinced this will happen, so does Adam Savage from Mythbusters who received Kylo's helmet from Prop Shop.
And instead of buying a PropShop Rey saber - again with some 3D printed parts, people should really consider a genuine Graflex conversion

It's true though. 3D printing is not yet proven. Much better to get real parts or use traditional methods like polystone, metal, etc.
