OT merchandise > New Movies.

While the new movies will obviously sell props/figures/etc make no mistake where Disney sees their cash cow. There's a reason we're seeing movies like Rogue One that line up with characters from the OT.

Zero chance.

I guarantee TFA/Episode 8/9 focused merchandise from last year to the next 3-4 years will far exceed merchandise focusing on the OT. And I don't even think it will be close.

I guarantee Anovos has sold more OT Stormtroopers than TFA. Same goes with Vader over Kylo. I'm not taking away from the value of Prop Store's collectibles or the selling power of Episode 7-8 but the OT always sells. It's sold since '77. Hell, Hasbro created POTF2 due mainly to the demand before Episode 1.

I'm talking about merchandise sales overall. Not just collectibles and costuming. The sales in PT merchandise between 2015-2020 will far far far exceed OT related merchandise in that same period. I don't know that could even be contested.

We can agree to disagree then. I don't know why Disney would bother continuing to make OT merchandise such a focal point if that was the case.

Because the Star Wars movie that just came out took place before ANH. Seems pretty obvious. TFA merch obviously sold better than anything Rogue One related. Episode 8 will dominate 2017.

I'm aware when Rogue One came out during the time line but it's not the OT. I'm not arguing that the TFA or E8 will sell and sell big, it will. My point is that every license holder and Disney knows who their market is and what people want to continue to buy. Nostalgia sells. It sold TFA. It'll continue to drive the ST story line and the lack of it resulted in the demise of the PT.

I just need a nice Stormtrooper helmet to round out my collection. I don't think eFX will ever get around to releasing a Legend version.

I don't think TFA stuff is selling that good, I just bought a bunch of figures on clearance. Plus it doesn't have the character "strength" like the OT or PT. Kylo is the only interesting character and he sucks. OT will always be king. Take Vader, R2, C3PO, Yoda, Chewy etc out of the "new" merchandise lines and sales would be horrible.

That's because they over produced merchandise of the likes we haven't seen since The Phantom Menace. "Character strength" as determined by adults who make up a fraction of the demographic is irrelevant.

And I'm not sure if the OT purists noticed, but R2, Chewy, and C3PO are in fact in the new trilogy. So taking them out of the equation doesn't serve either point.

I think Adults are majority of the demo, girls aren't playing with SW figures, and boys aren't playing with the girl in the film, Rey I think is her name. EPVIII wont do as well, too much hate from the TFA.

Lol whenever I forget this is a collectible forum and not a legit Star Wars forum, I get little gifts from the reminder fairy.

There's no "hate" for TFA, aside from a very vocal minority. Star Wars will continue to be huge, and will continue to grow.

As for the idea of "OT will always be king," I don't agree. The OT will always be special to those who grew up watching it in theaters or those who were old enough in the years before the Prequels to remember. But I would argue that the OT is going to be less relevant with each movie that comes out. Plenty of kids will grow up loving this new trilogy, and whichever new "story" films are released, and as the audience continues to grow, there will be more and more fans who don't have ANY of the nostalgia that everyone says is what helps OT stuff sell so well. There will even be hardcore fans of the new films who never saw all of the OT.

Post-Prequels Star Wars is still in very early stages. Should be fascinating to watch what happens in the next few decades.

All of this will be so diluted that won't have the impact it had once, and not even the impact it has today.

If all you need is a Stormtrooper helmet, I would go with RS. At this point, I don't think we're ever going to see the eFX Legend.

I hear some mixed comments about them. It seems like similar problems people are having with eFX: long wait times and no communication.

Is SDS any better or comparable?

You're funny. I'll tell my teenage daughters this next time they attack me with their Force FX lightsabers.

Which is almost daily.

Or next time they play Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens. Or watch Rebels. Or talk about weather Rey and Jyn are force sensitive or could be Jedi. Or geek out at one of my new figures.

Girls dig Star Wars.
