Just saw this thread now that it's been bumped up. On Statue Forum the have a lot of the elimination threads. They make a list of characters giving each three points and you get one vote a day to add a point to one character and subtract one from another. One was for Star Wars characters that people would like to see made in Premium Formats. When it got whittled down from the starting 60+ characters down the final few Grand Admiral Thrawn made it to the final 5 or so before everyone decide the needed to get him off the list in favor of Kit Fisto and a couple of other characters.

A couple of months later in one of the Ask Sideshow chats, it was asked about upcoming PFs and the mentioned a couple of possibilities and then said that they noticed Thrawn had quite a following on a certain statue forum and he might be a possibility. Needless to say this sent everyone there into a tizzy since most never bothered thinking it was a waste of time and causing few to get quite upset that Thrawn might get made over another character they would have wanted.

Can't say that it absolutely works in terms of getting a license or a particular character made, but Sideshow does have people look at these forums from time to time. So I always look to give an opinion when it might sway a decision at one of the major companies for a character I like.
