Imagine spending thousands of dollars, going through school and getting credentialed to teach, only to discover that you're expected to be nothing more than a glorified babysitter to a bunch of immoral brats, and every time you try to actually "teach" get berated by parents, completely unsupported by administrators. How much would you love your job then?

While I'd agree to most of that, she's a high school teacher, these are young adults. (he's 18). If you can't manage that then why would you become a teacher in the first place?

Plus, you have to be a TA to get teaching credentials. They have experience (sometimes full semesters) before you can actually teach solo. If you can't see what the job entails then, then get out.

You make it sound like the paycheck is so much!! :rotfl:rotfl

He says in the video that she came into class saying how it's "her paycheck". If a paycheck is that important, and you're a teacher, stop being a teacher and get another job. Somebody who just sits at their desk, browsing the internet and eating free school lunch isn't teaching, it's being lazy.

and who on here is questioning the work ethic/drive of either the student or teacher while they sit at work on a company-bought computer posting on a toy message board on your employer's dime? :lol

I'm using my own laptop at home, thank you very much. :lol

I see the same thing............

Its been an eye opener I admit over the last year and a half.

I make sure my kids are doing what they need to do to succed in class. If they have a question I'm at their desk helping them 1 on 1. My kids come first and for most of the class I'm up walking around my room checking things.

BS argument. Basically you're not only expecting teachers to be hiiiiiiiiiiiiighly trained in ESP, but you're expecting them to be behavioral specialists and know how to deal with ******* kids. Same works in reverse, if you're not at school to learn, don't waste the other 28+ students' time with your incessant attentionwhoring. Drop out and don't forget to start your career early by dropping an ap at Mc Donalds on your way home.

And FYI: Teacher =/= Babysitter

But that doesn't make them suddenly dumber, as kara believes. Their "ability" to learn is just as capable as that of a child who comes from a "nuclear family." Their desire to do so is an entirely different issue, and one that can't and won't be corrected with schooling, or lowering/altering standards.

It doesn't make them suddely dumb but the fact there is nothing being taught to them at home as far as drive they get their quick.

IDK, the number one reason I hear why people don't want to teach is because of dealing with students. That's what a teacher does though.

But in this case, the kid was standing up for those who wanted to learn. Apparently he dropped out, then came back a year later because he figured out that education is important. I don't blame him for being pissed. It's a waste of time, he came back to learn and he's given an assignment's with no help from the teacher why she sits at her desk. IMO he's right.

Teachers need to be more what Josh is, up for help, understanding, one on one. That's what teachers are suppose to be! Not just "here's your work, shadupp and do it."

Since when is it a teachers, let alone a school's job to interfere with the home life of a child? It's not. My wife was furious when a mother chastised her for not making sure the student did their homework.

"Do you expect me to follow your son home and force him to do it?"
"That's your job!"

Yeah, that's horse**** is what that is. :lol

No, that's a slanted POV. The number one reason people don't want to teach isn't because they don't want to deal with students. Students are there to learn. It's because they don't want to deal with disrespectful behavioral issues that should've been taught to the child before they ever started going to school. A teacher shouldn't have to wipe your *** because your mother couldn't. :huh

Agreed, and that's what I meant.

That's why I went on about how this one's different because the student wanted to learn. He wasn't pissed because she made him throw his gum away. :lol

there is no way a teacher could do that for 20+ students in the allotted time they have. and there is no way you can expect a teacher to be available after that allotted time. students also have to be able to function and figure out the problems on there own and if after they couldnt figure it out themselves ask for a help. do you think these students who expect teachers to hold their hand through the problems will be able to function on their own at a job? they would get fired with no remorse

I disagree. I think the idiot wanted attention or a distraction from learning, so he could leave. When he stopped at the door like a tittybaby and whined, further disrupting the learning environment for those who wanted to learn, it reinforced my opinion of it. Again, if you don't like the class or the packets (which has me thinking this is a remedial class), man up and access out of it into a standard or AP course.

The student has to reach out for the teacher, obviously.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one then. Sure it could have been handled better, but the kid has a few points that you can't ignore, IMO.

People have asked me why I didn't go on and become a teacher. If things were they way they were when I was growing up, I probably would have, but there's no way I would do it now simply because of what you have to deal with from parents and also from the state. And it's 100 times worse in the bigger cities. I don't know how they do it in the inner cities of Chicago, New York, etc. :panic:

I'm curious about who was recording this. I thought most schools banned cellphones in class.

:lol

No, that the intelligent young man stood up for what he believes in. (In a history class I might add).

Plus, it's the people's weed.

:lol

He stopped at the door and thought, "I should still have enough time to meet Chuck behind the bleachers if I take another 20 seconds to sell my departure by reiterating my point." :lol

Well, actually if we believe there are things going on in the home that are not in the best interest of the child we are legally bound to report it. If a parent needs to be chewed out a bit for not doing their job of making sure the child gets work done at home to learn then by all means thats more than fair. You had the kid now do your job by holding up your end of the deal.
