I bet the kid is so strong in his convictions that he is going to one day grow up to become a brilliant teacher. For the country's future yo.

Well, actually if we believe there are things going on in the home that are not in the best interest of the child we are legally bound to report it. If a parent needs to be chewed out a bit for not doing their job of making sure the child gets work done at home to learn then by all means thats more than fair. You had the kid now do your job by holding up your end of the deal.

Here, unless the kid is physically abused, you can't do much of anything about his parenting.

You TRY and teach them, that's all you can do. You just hope something sticks.

Right and that's more what I mean. Its not just physical abuse here but for the sake of discussion I'll just use that as the example.

There isn't much you can do about parenting but you can kind of remind them that they need to hold up their end of the bargin. Otherwise when you rip on me understand I'm doing my all and so should you.

The teachers here have parent teacher conferences twice a year and tell them what they need to do, etc. but most don't even bother showing up. It's sad.

We have PK students who most of the time don't even show up. It starts young.

I'm on a block schedule and have a roster of 280 students this semester. Believe me, i would like more 1:1 time, but its impossible. I have taught AP classes with 51 students. Sometimes its not hard to see how some teachers can just sit down once in a while and pass out handouts to students. LOL

Sounds like here.

If the district I'm in wants to see real change they've to start with the young kids. In a few years they will see the change they seek.

I agree its really sad.

The Josh,
Are you also gonna start using the new Common Core Curriculum based standardized testing? THIS is going to KILL most schools

Point being, if the teacher was like this:

Then everything would have been fine. :lol

Not really. Then the teacher would've taken the bait and been drawn out into a long discussion about everything under the sun EXCEPT what she was supposed to be focusing on. She made the wise, and correct decision letting doucheboy get his little moment of attentionwhoring then bail to go puff his J, so the class could get back to their assignments with minimal interruption. You might not see that, but every teacher here did. :wink1:

Yeah, it appears we're going towards that. I'm not sure how that is going to come in to play for me since I teach the computer classes.

Well its all computer based, so you should be busy as hell, LOL. Im sure admins will be hounding you for help. It looks killer to me. Its written at AP level and its basically text deciphering, analysis, and writing. Its almost as if they want us to fail to leave public ed. opened for privatization.

I give up. :lol :lol

I want to go through this thread, but I want to quickly throw in my two cents.

I agree slightly with him that some kids (like me) get a better learning experience from a one on one kind of thing. But at the same time, it's un fair to ask someone to do that because that would be impossible. There's 30 kids in a classroom, a teacher cannot treat 30 kids individually. It's impossible. You need packets. You need that crap. And while people like me hate it, I want to hope that for most people like me, they understood as to why it has to be like that.

Now, imma read this long thread, i'll be back.

I haven't done a tone of research into it but I will start soon. If its like that though it does sound like I will be busy. lol
