Nah. I'm hoping we get a new Dinosauria announcement before 2010 rolls in.

Same here. I'd like to see a nice teaser and/or pre-order during the holiday season.

Also, I've heard nothing but outstanding things from people who saw the Deinosuchus dio at SDCC, so I'm actually hoping for earlier on in Q1. Patience is not always my strong suit. :D

Riojas was involved with the Carnotaurus, and it became the most detailed Dinosauria piece (in my opinion, at least). If that level of detail returns for the Deinosuchus that Riojas is also involved with, it will be very hard for me to pass on it.

I'm in the same boat with the Deinosuchus. If it comes too early I won't be able to afford it, but I really, really don't want to have to pass on it.

same here! as much as i really love these pieces, a lot of sideshow's products have been shipping a lot earlier than expected and it would really help if the deinosuchus dio will be released much later in the Q1.

Well, do you have to buy them immediately? There's always the waitlist, not to mention other retailers...

Probably not, I think all the others have been available on second chance so this will probably be no different. Getting it from a retailer is an option, however I would really like to get the exclusives on these so that's my problem there. But a regular would be preferable to none at all. I'll just have to see how it all plays out.

It would be the last one I would pass on, it will easily be the best in the line.

Yeah. Plus, you have to figure Deinosuchus isn't going to sell as quickly as good ol' Rexy, no matter how awesome she is.

I don't know..a lot of people love crocs and a good kill scene is hard to pass up...heh

I wasn't interested in any piece past old Rex..but as I go along each one starts to grow on me and I get a lot of anticipation for the next piece. Granted I'm barely affording them and I'm giving up a few other things..but there are always sacrifices right ?

hi dan. problem with our distributor here in the philippines is, they take preorders for whatever piece you want, require a downpayment, then when the item arrives, you have to claim it within two weeks or else it would be sold to other collectors who might be interested in getting the piece as well. can't blame them though, there are others who actually do place orders for an item then wouldn't claim the piece once it arrives, ends up their warehouse and inventory gets packed with the unsold/unclaimed products, which is not good for business as we all know.

so to cut it short, once my order arrives, in this case, the styrac maquette (might also arrive with my uruk-hai lsb and ringwraith dio :horror), i have to pay for it/them in full (minus the downpayment of course) and claim it/them at once.

i'm excited about this piece, really, don't get me wrong. and it's never been my habit to cancel an order i made. i'm just a bit panicky that all of them are arriving much much earlier than expected (our distributor here stated that the styrac maquette's arrival will be in april still) funding might not be able to cope up, so there.:duh

If I had to choose between it and the Styrac I think I would choose it, but I won't really have that options. I've got alot of stuff on pre-order for Q1 so we'll have to see what its going up against and how it stacks up. Right now it is in the middle of the list of stuff I have coming.

Steve Riojas puts a magnificent amount of detail into his works, though I still have to say the most detailed is the T.rex maquette. The Carnotaurus maquette is an exquisite representation of what a typical Carno may have looked like in its prime, but in terms of detail the alpha male T.rex, imo, is the victor without question. Literally almost every time I look at it I find something new to admire, and it serves as an excellent foil to another Krentz piece - Rex Mundi. For me, no one statue in this series is inferior to any other, though each has salient features which set it apart as distinct. What makes Dinosauria so easily my favorite collectible line is the practically incalculable minutia of detail in each individual piece. I can't wait for the next announcement, which hopefully will be sooner rather than later. :rock

Yet another vote of confidence to bolster my enthusiasm for this piece. :banana I love the maquettes, but I'm glad they're balancing the line with dioramas as well. Of all my Dinosauria pieces, the T.rex VS. Triceratops dio is the one which people seem always to gravitate towards with that "Wow..." or "Holy $h!t..." reaction.

I was mainly referring to the finer details of the piece. I think I mentioned how the Rex/Trike are very intricate in the heads, but less so in the bodies? With the Carnotaurus, it bears the same level of super fine details across the entire body. Although the knobby osteoderms on the head never fail to impress me. :) So I didn't mean the sheer presence of detail, but rather how intricate they appear. Might be just me, though.

No it's not just you at all. The ossified protuberances across the head are stunningly detailed. I still think that the T.rex VS. Trike dio is stunningly detailed throughout; I mentioned in a post a while back that my letdown on the Carno was that the bands of jaw muscles weren't painted so as to appear vascularized, like the T.rex in the dio. It's a small quibble, I know, but it's a feature that really makes the dio come alive and which I was hoping would be carried over. Other than that the Carno is really sublime. The T.rex maquette is just my personal favorite in terms of the finer niceties. There's such a glut of intricacy that it begs to be examined to no end. Again, I don't find any one piece superior to the other, though all of them are distinct for different reasons. Having Steve Riojas on any Dinosauria project is a real treat. He and Anthony Mestas worked together for some time on paleo pieces before Anthony left for SS, so it's nice to see them having the opportunity to revisit some Mesozoic subject matter jointly yet again! :rock

Oh that reminds me, we'll need to do a photographic comparison of these vascularized muscles, because my poor eyes couldn't spot the disparity betwixt the beasts. There seemed to be a few dark splotches on my Rex's, but that was all I could see.

Also, have you seen Krentz's 1:72 Rex? Dead ringer for the Sideshow incarnation. :D

Here's a banana or two to bolster your enthusiasm all the more ---> :banana :banana

As for ranking them, I would do so as follows (of what has been released/revealed so far):

1) Deinosuchus

2) T-Rex

3) Styracosaurus

4) T-Rex/Triceratops

5) Carnotaurus

The Deinosuchus wins it in a DINOSAUR line !? How's that work..? lol ;D

These pieces are still all being sculpted by Taboada right ? Has it been determined to what extent the paleo-artists mentioned in conjunction with each actually do ?

Aside frrom that...anyone have a clue how long we can expect this line to continue ? I've collected lines before for a couple years only to have the manufacturers quite on me , leaving space on my shelves and an odd mix of a collection..you know what I mean if you collected anything before..it happens to all of us. Personnally I hope the line goes on and on..heh heh but I know it won't...I guess what I'm getting at is there an example specific to Sideshow of a long running line and how far did it go ? Wow..this question wasn't supposed to go on that long..lol
