My wife's company in NJ has shut down it's gym. Handed out hand sanitizer to all it's employees, has an Pandemic Emergency plan in place and no one is allowed to be closer than 6 feet to each other! It's nuts! They have a sign on the door that reads anyone who has traveled to Mexico or has had contact with anyone who traveled to Mexico are not allowed in the building!!!!!

Isn't this the flu season? I just overcame a major flu last week. Those flu shots don't work at all...

How many people have actually died from this? I have heard of one child that died. The regular flu (that we have all probably had this year) kills , I think, about 70 people per day globally on average. Is this really an armageddon esk sickness that we are being told it is ? I guess my point is , unless everyone that gets this dies, is it really that big of a deal ?

Unless you get it, I would say no its not that big of a deal (though the WHO just elevated the SF's status to level 5, which is one level below pandemic).

This is what you hate to hear about...

Associated Press - April 30, 2009 11:13 AM ET
McALLEN, Texas (AP) - A Mexico City toddler who became the first swine-flu death on U.S. soil spent a day with his family shopping at a huge Houston indoor mall the day before he began to show symptoms.
Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos says the Brownsville family with whom the toddler was staying said they spent three nights in Houston just before he fell ill.
Hospital and health officials said Wednesday that the 23-month old Mexico City boy arrived in Brownsville on April 4 and was hospitalized four days later. They said he had no outside contact once he was hospitalized. The family has shown no symptoms.

Foxnews just posted that the initial victims of the swine flu are now showing new symptoms:

The initial victims of the swine influenza seem to be showing signs that they were not deceased as first reported, but maybe in a state of immobility that slowed their vital signs to an extreme statis. After "death", this virus is able to restart the heart of it’s victim for up to two hours after the initial "demise" of the person where the individual behaves in extremely violent ways from what is believe to be a combination of brain damage and a chemical released into blood during “resurrection.”

Many of the victims have now been contained because they are attacking nurses.

My God...
