The flu has come to town. Sounds like a few kids brought home a souvenir from their family trip to Mexico and decided to share with the class. The elementary school down the street has been closed until next week while they continue testing. My kids are OK, but it still makes me nervous.

I hope everything works out right Tom. As a parent of a 7 year old that's what worries me and in all honesty I wish they would just close the schools down here for the rest of the school year. All they have left are 3 weeks anyhow and all of their testing has already taken place.

flu of this nature can be a dangerous thing as they are unpredictable... but misinformation can be dangerous too (but it is the nature of our media)... a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) has dismissed claims that more than 150 people have died from swine flu, saying it has officially recorded only seven deaths around the world... to help with perspective, i believe about 4000 people die of the flu annually in Canada without making the news... even more disturbing, Egypt ordered 300K pigs be slaughter even though there hasn't been a single case of swine flu there and no evidence that pigs have spread the disease.

Hope you guys don't get the flu, Tom! Flu sucks, whether swine or otherwise :sick

Well apparently in my area there is a run on antibacterial soaps and wipes. I likened it to what happens when there is a prediction of a snowstorm in regard to bread and milk.

Watching the news these days makes me wonder if we're re-living The Great Depression and The Black Plague all at once.

In the meantime, 20,000 Egyptians die from starvation...at least it wasn't the pig flu!

I probable case at my wife's school and she herself still has a fever 4 days running (Doctor cleared her of the swine (stupid pig) flu).

:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol I just pictured him dressed up like a pimp for some reason. :D

People still sometimes get the flu after getting a flu shot because there are many many different STRAINS of flu. Officials just take a guess on which strain will be most prevalent that year, and that's the vaccine they issue. If you are unlucky and happen to come in contact with a strain that was not in the vaccine, you get the flu.

(and sometimes people think they have the flu, but they really don't - just flu-like symptoms... ie: a bad cold... or sometimes it's stomach flu and there's not a vaccine for that, as far as I know - just drink a lot of fluids)

Swine flu is just another strain of the flu. ALL strains of the flu occasionally kill people who are immuno-compromised in some way.

I still don't understand what the big deal is???

I get terrible colds, but not flu. I don't think you have a fever with a cold, but I'm not sure. You can really be sick and feel like you have the flu with a cold though.

A buddy from work just got back from mexico in time for our nightshifts, and to find out he gets two extra PAID days off (on account of the news and possible contagion).
I tried to play the "swine" card, by telling my supervisor that guy had talked and breathed all over me.
Didn't work . . .I just finished up my last nightshift.
I think I wanna go to mexico before this swine flu wears off.
