Well, sending my figure back. It had scratches and paint missing on the head, torso and sides - not major but there. SSC offered me three options, only one of which was to my liking - full refund

Figured a 'dirty' variant is only a matter of time, so may consider it again later if released. Piece is awesome, but $400 is $400. Perfection or nothing

Wow, that;s a bummer to hear. Just ordered this from SSC. My chances of getting one without problems is sounding pretty slim. Anyone order this from SSC and receive one with no defects?

Does anyone know is this figure cast in the metal color or painted...I have a smudge on the back of my C-3PO 's head, and before I try to rub / wipe...I want to know how hard to push...it won't come off with a light wipe so far....

Can I ask what is wrong with his head?

I think, noting some post here with stippling issues, the prevailing notion is that it's painted.

There's no paint on the figure, it's not even plated - the whole thing is die-cast, obviously with the exception of the plastic components. The only difference that I can tell between the inside and outside surfaces being that the outer surfaces are polished to a bright sheen.

HLJ.com! Still in stock, cheaper than SSC and fewer (if any) reports in this thread of flawed finishes. I got my replacement figure from them after SSC couldn't replace my flawed one.

I get the feeling that the ones they have in stock are ones that've been returned and they're just trying their luck. Might be wrong, but the pattern seems to be that those who got their's straight away from them got perfect figures, while those who were on flexpay or ordered theirs later tended to experience more issues. Best of luck, but be prepared that it might arrive with issues.

Well that's crap on SSC part if that is true. Surely the faulty ones would go back to the manufacturer so they can address the issues.

I'll pay mine off this week and if I get a faulty one it'll go straight back and I'll get a refund. A slight blemish here or there is fine with me but some of these shouldn't have made it past QC.

I'm stupefied that some of the described faulty figures would have been packaged in the first place. Or that they'd have even been built, because clearly some of the damaged components were already in that state before final assembly.

I've already started planning how to display this guy and his counterpart, but I'm waiting it out until later in the summer to try and pick him up.

I'm just speculating by way of making sense of why the first round of sets appeared to be problem-free whereas more recent ones seem to be relatively poor. Also, having sets 'in stock' but not having these available as replacements (full replacements, not even part replacements) is maybe another sign?

It must be tough with a figure like this - the surface makes any teeny tiny blemish stand out like dog's b@lls. But yeah, $400... people will expect the perfection that is advertised.

Yep, I have the same concerns and if our little theory is true, I should be getting a flawed one maybe sometime next week. Really hoping it's all just random, unhappy coincidences but a little wary.

The thing that really made me suspicious that Sideshow re-sends returns is when the IG-88 exclusive came back into stock, briefly. Someone here bought it and posted after opening that there was dog hair inside the box, as well as the thigh being cracked. I'd say that's about as caught red-handed as they could get. If I do end-up returning mine, maybe I'll stick a note in there advising I returned it and see if it ends-up getting posted on the forum. :lol

The IG-88 story! :horror :lol

What sloppy CS.. they should be ashamed of themselves if they're doing that. I'm just glad I got my 3PO at the beginning of the run - not a problem with mine. :)

..& folks are still considering paying $400 for this figure, with the other options out there still available?

Well shoot...now I'm thinkin of cancelling this guy with SSC. Where else can I buy this guy for a decent price?

I don't mean to scare anyone but there have been a few things that make you wonder. Regardless, I'm not personally convinced enough that I'll cancel before it ships (actually going to request it be shipped a month early). Still think there is probably a lot of randomness to what ships out. I'll definitely post after I've opened it and let everyone know how it is.

Handy hint for SSC buyers: as soon as you receive a faulty/blemished figure and receive SSC approval for a full refund, pick up a replacement figure from HLJ (or another store) before sending the C3PO figure back. If the second set arrives with any blemishes, you at least can mix n' match parts to put together a perfect figure.

Would you do this for stuffs you buy on ebay, forum members as well though?

Different kettle of fish I think. If SSC acknowledges that the figure they sent out is flawed enough to warrant a full refund, then they write off that figure. At least we hope they write it off rather than send it back out to a new customer! In which case what difference is it to anyone whether the figure they have returned to them has two scratched-up limbs (for example) instead of one? The switching out of parts saves the second seller from wearing a return as well, so that's one less figure that needs to be written off.
