It was easy. I just wrote a piece of software that analyses video frames for metallic colors matching 3PO's "skin" and then I printed every frame to a 24"x18" poster, ordered them backwards and then just flipped through the thousands of images until I found where the dent suddenly disappears. The hardest part was doing while also riding horseback racing cars on the interstate. ;)

Nah, I just kind of guessed it looked like a dent and figured it was the Tusken attack then fired up the video, skipped to just before that scene and checked.

Awesome research job, PP! It's stuff like this that keeps me coming back to this site. :wink1:

I think I can help with this one. The sculptor of this piece was also one of the authors of The Star Wars Chronicles, which is the most wonderful coffee table book on SW. (Highly recommended). Many of the pics feature studio shots and publicity photos of the characters. The costumes of Vader and Threepio have slight differences in these shots. I believe they were taken after production wrapped. You can also see the notch in this poster:

Here is one of the pics from those studio sessions:

Didn't that notch, along with the dent on the head happen when he fell, after being scared by a Tusken Riader?

Mystery solved.

That spot is a dent inflicted during the Tusken Raider attack when 3PO and Luke go searching for R2. It appears precisely after the attack in the canyon. You can see when they get to the location there is no dent, then when C-3PO is lifted to sit upright in the sand, presto, the first shot of the dented chest - the same scene where Luke picks up his arm which has also been severed.

Oh, I didn't see this, but yes, you are precisely right.

The next question I have is why didn't he put the dent on the head? I asked this question early on, before the final was released. I'm going to assume that nobody would want the version with a dented head.

I am currently looking for the Taito R2D2 figure. The one with retractable legs. I have found one or two sources but they price it out to be $80+. Does anyone have any recommendations / alternatives?

Here it is at Amazon.co.jp and Yahoo auctions. The only trouble is finding someone willing to ship it. But places like Rinkya or Shopping Mall Japan and the like should be able to help you out.

Here is a comparison of fees for different proxy services that helps you get japanese stuff.

Thank you sir, I tracked one down for $60 shipped. Not too happy about it seeing how cheap people got it a couple years back. I have the 3PO coming soon, and I cant have him be without a companion... especially when there is no knowing when the Tamashii R2 will come out.

I have a couple of the Hasbro versions which I love only for sentimental reasons, but I want something that is true to scale.

I've had 3PO without R2 for months and I'm still alive. :wave

Where'd you find him for that price? Do they still have any?

I tracked it down through a private seller! I almost ordered from here if I didnt locate it through other means. The price here is $80 shipped.

I went this route instead of the action alarm version because of the articulation. I actually think I had purchased the "Night Light" version a long time ago, but I think its somewhere in storage.

I'm waiting for my C-3PO, it'll arrive by tomorrow afternoon, I hope.

Would you believe this: I paid over $ 520 for it. Yeah, tell me about it, I already know! After all the shipping fees and import taxes... It's just... Sick. Now, there's a comparison price for you guys :horror

I made a really bad call when I decided to buy this figure from the SideShow Collectibles. But I just had to have him and made a FlexPay plan immediately. So I really do hope mine's in pristine condition - for me being probably the last one to receive the damn thing... :impatient:

I already have a big pile of those gels waiting, by the way, if someone's interested. Basically, I ordered a full sample case of those gels from the manufacturer. They're quite tiny sheets and I don't know yet how many right-color ones there are (maybe just one, or a couple) and how many pieces I'm able to cut out from those.

Any ideas for a 1:6 scale Tantive IV corridor? I'd love to buy or build one for this figure, would look awesome in my showcase. I couldn't find but one for the Kenner figures.

Still no Chogokin R2-D2!?! :r2d2line

And please accept my apologies for my bad English, it ain't easy after so many years of not speaking the language... :gah:

:lecture But we understood you just fine!
So, you're looking to see who could drive the Millennium Falcon, because you want to smuggle a couple of droids and left-over lightsabers from the aftermath of Order 66, and the Tantive IV you were using had a bad motivator. Right?

You're English looks perfect to me! It is a shame how much it cost you in the end! What a pain! I hope you're enjoyment will outweigh the costs!

I also have a book of gels. What colors are you guys using to gel the eyes? I am also waiting for my 3po to come...so debating on if I want to do the gel mod or not.

Wow - that sucks dude! :slap

I'm in Australia, & I got mine early from Hobbylink Japan - so glad I did.

I paid $360 shipped - others have paid less since, but I'm fine with the price I paid. Plus I got a pristine one to boot.

I hope you get a perfect one. :hi5:

Exactly :rotfl

There's nothing to it, it's quite simple, so I vote for "yes". They are pretty bad without the gels... I believe it was member PJB-1138 who tried out many of those gels and found out that Roscolux #321 (Soft Golden Amber) was one of the better ones to apply. I know it's the first thing I do when the 3PO gets here.

I hope you get a perfect one. :hi5:

So do I.... So do I. I'll upload some pictures here in a couple of days for sure.

The Customs' Import fees go above 24% around here. I just might have to move to U.S. just because of this :wink1:

Just ordered mine from Amazon! This will be my first 1/6 scale figure. Also have Vader and Grievous on PO. It'll be here on Wednesday! Can't wait! Now to go look for some amber film gels by then
