Why would SS not carry this when it's being produced in conjunction with their license? I mean, 3PO's box has the SSC logo right on it.
Needless to say Sideshow will not distribute it if they are left out of loop. So if Tamashii is wary of working with SSC again it is unlikely to see release unless a shakeup in licencing occurs.

Hey Flosi, I think you might have missed my earlier post where I said I spoke to a Tamashii rep at NYCC on Sunday and he said that they were putting R2 on hold til they could release him on their own and not in conjunction with Sideshow. I asked him if they were trying this because of the Disney buy out and he said yes.
Now, who knows if he really knew what he was talking about. I meant to go back and ask a different rep the same question and see if their stories lined up, but I ran out of time.
But for now it seems like a plausible answer as to why we haven't seen or heard anything about R2. It also makes me wonder if HT is also trying to pull this same stall tactic on Anakin and Han til they can secure their own license.
Sucks, I know. We really should try and get some answers from Tamashii or even Sideshow and see if they can corroborate the story the rep gave me.

So all of these companies are trying to cut out the middle men then? Makes sense, and it could be better for us, long term.
I can confirm it is on hold for most of the reasons Mad Old Lu mentioned and I"m pretty sure I know who you spoke with from Tamahii, Lu. He knows what he's talking about. Anyways, it's highly unlikely that Tamashii will do R2 partnering with Sideshow. However, the Tamashii team seemed optimistic that they could work out a licensing agreement with Disney faster than they would have been able to with LFL. Still it seems like if it does happen, it will be later rather than sooner. Sucks because I really wanted that R2 to go with my C-3PO

We should only dream that Bandai get a license on their own as they got the guy that did the marmits to work on their C-3PO, and that turned out pretty good I think..

I'd rather have nothing than any of those. 
The medi r2 is way to small! Don't waste the money. Get the clock version and mod it if you desire. It's a great base figure for sure. It even has compartments and necessary articulation.

I wouldn't be happy with the clock or the old Hasbros or even the Medi. I'll wait til either Tamashii eventually releases theirs, or Sideshow decides to do it on their own.

Interesting. So they'd want to move away from Sideshow as to avoid sharing in the sales?
I wonder if Disney will just hand out the licenses a lot easier and they'll give one to Tamashii same as Medi?
Well I think they deserve a share of the license after their efforts with C-3PO.
