Just spoke to a rep here at nycc. Says tamashii wants to release r2 on their own, not with sideshow. So it's "on hold" til they can do that.

I guess that means its not going to happen. A shame they couldn't at least do the 2 figures with SSC before going off on their own....

Whoa. That's awesome. Was it new? I got mine that cheap but that was after a partial refund because it had some small issues.

Maybe the rep is misinformed?
Though, when you have a product that SS sells for $400, and then it's globally distributed, even on Amazon for less than $300, maybe SS said WTF, go pound sand, because they really got burned in the whole deal MSRP wise. I would guess maybe Tomashii undercut to other distributors, while SS bore the original dealer cost?
Just speculation, but I had given it some thought as to why SS was so high and these other guys seem to be selling so low way after the item was suppose to be out of stock.
This news really sucks.

He could very well have been speaking out of his butt. I meant to go back and see if I could question some other rep and see if their stories lined up, but I ran out of time.

I also asked the one rep if they were trying to release R2 on their own because of the new Disney buy out, and he said yes. He didn't mention or suggest that Sideshow did anything bad or if their relationship had soured. Just that they wanted to do it on their own. My guess is that they want to maximize their profits by not having to pay the sub-lease through Sideshow and go straight to the source instead.

Regardless of whether the rep really did know or not, it makes me think that Hot Toys is trying to pull something similar with their Star Wars figures by dragging their feet with the Anakin and Solo releases. They're just biding their time til they can secure the license on their own.

Very disappointing.

Thanks. I was bummed because I missed out on an auction earlier in the week which sold for $255. But this turned out a better deal. It's shipping from a seller in Japan and delivery estimate is until Nov. I just hope it goes through and it's for the Tamashii and not some hasbro toy version that they switched up. Luckily Amazon customer service is fantastic and I bet any issues they'll correct the situation. I'll let you all know of the outcome.
