There is a reissue up for preorder on anime-export.com

12 PM C-3PO

Releasing this month. About $225 + shipping (According to their shipping calculator, somewhere between $45-$50).

(Gives me hope that they may revisit R2)

There's almost no hope they'll revisit R2 unfortunately. If this is a genuine reissue and not just backordered stock then busting out a few more figures from existing molds and tooling is no biggie. Properly developing a whole new figure from a prototype is a different thing altogether. Not to mention the rumoured insurmountable difficulties Tamashii will have securing a license. It's well past time to change the thread title.

My shelves are filled with things that others have told me "will never be made". So I'll stay positive, thank you very much.

I'm not sure why anyone would want Tama to make their R2 anyway - it was already shown and horribly under-scaled. Sure a metal R2 would go well with a metal 3PO, but the scale would just ruin the whole thing, IMO.

I'm not convinced that the R2 prototype was a final proto. Apart from the scale, that shiny dome was all kinds of Kenner. I personally like handling diecast figures, I'm bummed that they dropped the ball on this.

Wow, that's unexpected but it's a great opportunity for those that missed out on the first run. I don't think even HT could surpass it (equal it, maybe) and it blows away SSC's version by a country mile.

Maybe not final, but the scale was most definitely final. It was marked as awaiting approval, wasn't it?

Yeah, as much as I wanted a Tamashii R2, given what a homerun 3PO was, I gotta agree with Pix's argument. Maybe the dome would've changed to brushed but it would appear the dimensions were set, unless Tamashii was OK with starting from scratch.

I have trouble believing that they'd bang on about the accuracy of 3PO but not afford R2 the same treatment, but maybe that was going to be the case had it gone further. What a fail that would've been though.

Indeed, that would've been really disappointing. Thankfully I suspect HT will be releasing an 'Ep VII' R2, so that should remedy the situation.

HLJ recently blew out some leftover Threepios...this is another great price.

I had initially liked the look of SSCs offering more, but the real belly wires sell the Tama, in the end.

That's a great price for an outstanding figure! I have no regrets with mine.

And I also think Tama won't make the R2. I think the contract with Sideshow is probably over, but they're sneaking in another batch of Threepios under a "reissue".

It would have been nice to have a die cast clean R2, and I do think the dome would have been changed to the proper brushed finish (they did fix Threepio's original dull finish he sported on the proto), but the scale of the proto was probably final.

The only issue with saving some big bucks via AE, is the possibility of QC issues. I hear they aren't known for speedy customer service.

Hey All!

Here's a little work-in-progress on 3-po's pistons I thought I'd share. You can see more in my customs thread, but I figured I'd share a pic here, as well. I'm happy the direction its going, but a V.2 is in the works.:)

Even mod free, this is still a great figure.

Cheers,
Ahab
