Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Triple H got his ass kicked by regular human Ryan Reynolds. :lol

I'm not sure it would be impossible to make another genuinely good Terminator movie, that's why I can't just get on board with whatever nonsense they put out instead. But yeah, if there's enjoyment to be had from ripping the piss out of something then I have no doubt this film will give me a damn good time.

I don't think a "send protector back in time to protect _____ " can be made good anymore.

A movie based on the future war, can be good though. Just don't have a yelling self righteous John Connor like in Salvation.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Funnily enough, I watched T:S again the other night.. well, I fell asleep about an hour in. :lol

I had to cleanse my figurative pallet not long after though, by revisiting T-2 last night. It obviously goes without saying that it's just as solid now, as it was 20+ years ago. It was late & I was tired, but I stayed the course. It's a classic.

Oh, what T:S could've been. You get glimpses of what they could've built on with the war aspect of the installment, but no. Let's focus on the out of place Aussie guy with the horrible in & out American accent. I like Sam Worthington as an actor - but not in American films. He's awful in this. I still hold rather staunchly to my view that he would've been IDEALLY cast as Max in the new MM film. Ideally cast. I've got lots to say about the casting generally for this movie, but ehh. Helena Bonham Carter as the face of Skynet. Whaa? Did Tim Burton throw some cash into the ring at this point or something?

Not near enough the amount of actual referencing / footage (if any arguably) that Cameron laid out int the first two films regarding the actual war, & it ends up being just another vehicle for CG houses to get work & Baleman as the poster boy for some (hopefully) cred. It was commendable that they at least didn't try to **** with the time travel thing again, but even then.. the inner workings of Skynet looked generic & nothing like what long time fans were probably envisioning. Seeing a CG 84 Arnold head on Roland Kickenger's body was cool though, for my money.

The obligatory 'mech' in the cattle train sequence (coz robot film) was silly. Doc Oc's detached tentacle arms swimming around in water holes was interesting too. It's kind of funny, but frustrating. They couldn't decide whether Skynet were the resident scary robot population, or a mechanical hive controlled by a digital mad scientist.

I like how a big theme in the movie was 'second chances'. Oh the irony, as far as the franchise itself goes.. :lol

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I suppose the future of the terminator franchise will consist of the rewriting of the story of Sarah Connor being saved by alternatively Kyle Reece and a reprogrammed Terminator Model T-800. Talk about paradox-ing the **** out something for a cheap buck :lol

Is there actually a present day Terminator story anybody really wants to see?

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I'm not even interested in seeing a future war Terminator movie. Surprise, surprise, humans win and Skynet sends a Terminator back in time. The End.

I'd be down for one of those comic-style stories where a Terminator picks the wrong John and Sarah Connor as targets. Alternatively I'd just have some fun with the core concept and have a Terminator sent back to the Wild West or some other seminal moment in history to kill Sarah's most distant relatives.

Arnold thinks T1, T2, and . . . T3 were all equally good. Says Salvation "sucked".

Maaan. :lol

That's why you gotta hand it to Ah-nuld. He's irrationally, illogically, insanely self-confident/delusional. I mean, for Pete's sake, this was the same guy who thought his housekeeper was a piece of ace. :lol

:lol He is self delusional. In an interview recently, he said that he's back to having the same frame he had when he made the original Terminator and that it only took him a few months to get back to where he used to be :lol

Edit- That was the interview (above) :lol

I think self-delusion and success oftentimes go hand in hand. For example...

That honestly looks less realistic than the prosthetics they used 25 years ago. Maybe it'll look OK in motion but it certainly does not freeze-frame well.
