Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I only enjoyed the first movie when I was a kid, though it's become horribly dated. Second was fun but never a favorite. I've seen the rest in passing and have no idea how this franchise has made it to a fifth movie. Based on everything that's come out about Genisys, this will hopefully be the final nail in the coffin of something that's been dead for a really long time and just didn't know it.

"We'll take care of him."

"Whatever he needs."

Read the spoiler.......ok fine.......**** this film.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Someone on reddit saw it and gave his review. That ending spoiler is a big WTF. If you are considering seeing this film, do yourself a favor and read the spoiler. It is just terribly mind numbing. Didn't think they could sink this franchise any lower.

Major Spoilers:

The worst part of the entire film for me though is the villainization and killing of John Connor. This is changed even more when at the end of the film instead of Sarah having John as we know, she has a daughter instead, basically erasing John Connor from the timeline. This just didn't sit right with me at all, John has always been the 'savior' of the human race, I don't know how I feel now that he is just removed.

So, I saw Terminator Genysis - I'll give some of my thoughts of it here, and I'm happy to answer questions.

The Good
- Jason Clarke does a pretty good job as John Connor/ The 'bad guy'. I didn't expect anything from him but I liked his performance. Arnold steals pretty much every scene he is in (although he's not in the movie as much as he was in the first 3, I'd guess he's in ~50% of this one).
- The future war scenes are better than I expected, and were probably my favorite part of the film, they're still not as good as the ones glimpsed in T1 or T2, but they're much better than what we see in T4.
- The design of the Terminator/Human hybrid is really good, and I liked the effects on that.

The Bad
I found the plot itself to be weak, there are the usual plot holes that time travel movies create, but a lot of things are just glossed over. One being the T-1000 not looking like he did in T2 (I like that Lee Byung-hun is in it, but his T-1000 isn't very much like Robert Patrick's, they could be different models I guess).

The Ugly
- The plot is very convoluted, I think we see at least 6 different times across the film, and there is massive amounts of exposition during the time travel parts.
- Emilia Clarke is no Sarah Connor, at no point in the film did I believe that she was this badass mother of John Connor. Linda Hamilton felt like she was a really tough person who could do all the things she did in reality, Clarke never gives off that same sense of strength.
- Jai Courtney is the most boring actor I have ever seen, he makes Sam Worthington's performance in T4 look Oscar worthy. Michael Biehn would be spinning in his grave if he were dead.

TLDR Overall, I think it has plenty of weaknesses, but it is worth a watch (just to see Arnold back in action). I think you'll even have fun if you go into it with the previous two instalments in mind, instead of the first two.

i saw that spoiler somewhere else too, thats what i was talking about :lol:lol i didnt think i could post it

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I'd rather incubate a hornets nest inside my a nus than watch this film.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Another thing I noticed is that the trailer kind of shows the ending too...

so the people doing the marketing for this either have no faith in it, just throwing whatever looked best into the trailer, spoiling absolutely everything

Or they are secretly trying to warn everyone to stay away from it.

You mean with the time displacement machine? Yeah that was way too much, already shows they're jumping through time hoops in the past probably.

:exactly:

That reddit review (if legit) seals the deal.

****ing garbage.

As expected :lol

It's so far from the Cameron canon, it's become comical.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Great cast: Dr Who, Julian McMahon's ugly twin, Miley Cyrus, Star Lord's stunt double, & T-Pops as the garnish to basically what is for all intents & purposes - a kahkah souffle.
