Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I would still question why two people embarking on an historic insterstellar mission of this nature would be written to be a weed-smoking type of people. It seems to me the selection process might have ruled such persons out?

Best way I can explain this is from experience in a London university - sometimes those who are supposedly the smartest amongst us are in actuality the dumbest melonfarmers you're ever likely to meet. Just because they happen to be a genius in regards to anthropology, mathematics, archaeology, biology, etc it doesn't mean that they're any cleverer than the average person at just about anything else. In fact, in many cases their intelligence is so focused on one narrow thing they're a hell of a lot dumber.

Honestly out of all the things in Prometheus people complain about, two scientists being total idiots at everything but science was not something I found complaint-worthy, in my opinion it was pretty realistic.

Ahh, you mean like Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory.

In broad strokes yes, but I honestly hate that show :lol

I don't think I ever met anybody quite at that level of social awkwardness, except for a couple of people who were legitimately severely autistic. Mostly it's that out of the context of a lab or a classroom they're just as incompetent at everyday life as the rest of us.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I just googled "michael biehn look alike" and some guy name Billy Miller from the Young and the Restless came up. Pretty close:

Yes it's pathetic, at least get a guy who looks like the original character, even get Mike back. I don't know who that guy is but I look at that face and I just want to punch it.

You'd want to punch his character too. :lol He's a over the top playboy who jumps from woman to woman.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I feel nothing seeing his Reese. Ideally we would be thinking ''oh wow, we're going to see Kyle Reese again. Oh wow, Kyle Reese is going to have to work alongside a Terminator. Wow, Kyle Reese might not get killed this time, how will that play out''. However there's just no connection there. They're calling him Kyle Reese but I just don't see it. They couldn't even give this guy Michael Biehn's 1984 hairstyle? It might have helped a smidge. Why am I to accept that the T-800 is the same actor but literally everyone else is always a different person. I think you made that point before. With so little actor continuity in this franchise it makes it even harder to accept anything beyond the first two films.

Well, after the last half decent TV spot, it looks like we're back on track ;) CG endo fail...

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Yeah, all the endo footage pretty much looks like a computer game cut-scene, particularly the one in the flames.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they even bothered getting Legacy involved? Have these people not learned yet that CGI can easily be over relied on and ruin a movie? They have the flipping Endos built... Use them, blow them up, do whatever you need, the movie will benefit from it. Even the helicopters are CGI, just hire some..

:exactly: Though we know they'll have endo props driving trucks. They must have lost their way at some point.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I'm sure there will be some practical stuff in there, just seems from the trailers that there is a lot of cgi also. I'm not against CG by any means, I just think it should be plan B for when a practical effect isn't feasible. It is easy to distinguish an effect that doesn't actually exist physically when it is on screen with real props and actors etc. It's part of the reason things like ID4 have aged so well, even the burning cities are an ingenious practical effect... As is the White house blowing up.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I am 100% against CGI. I'd rather watch claymation from the 60's than anything being made today. Might as well be cartoons.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I don't think I'd go that far. But I do think CGI makes writers and film-makers go overboard with stupid ***t. There's just no restraint in many cases. I wish more directors would say ''yeah we could do that with CGI....or we could delete or tone down the scene because it's just getting too ridiculous - people will know it can only be CGI and it will kill the authenticity of our live-action movie and take us into unintentional Roger Rabbit territory''

It should be used as an extra tool never a crutch.

It just feels like a greatest hits album but re-recorded by different singers and autotuned.

Clark looks so wooden and while others taking over a role bring their own thing as much as pay homage it seems like she's just trying to copy and paste Hamilton
