"I order you not to fall asleep during the movie, I order you not to...!"

Seriously though I saw it twice and enjoyed it both times but can't help but recognize that of the 14 or 15 films I've seen at the theater this year Genisys ranks dead last. Okay I guess I'd put it above Spongebob and Minions but I only saw those because of my kids. With upcoming films like Spectre, The Revenant, Bridge of Spies, The Hateful Eight, The Force Awakens, etc., it will no doubt fall even farther behind.

It's just really difficult to grasp now somehow, that the mighty Arnold is just a remnant of a bygone era - like Stallone.

They were once Titans.. now dey iz old product placement.

Arnold just didn't evolve or stay relevant. Eastwood figured out how to do it with Unforgiven and In the Line of Fire before transitioning to the director's chair. And look at Cruise. I can't believe that here we are in 2015, and "Maverick" is still making first rate action thrillers.

I know that Cruise isn't as old as Arnold but they're still both 80's icons making films today.

I think Cruise's range trumps Sly & Arnie's just a little. :lol

You're right though, Tom could've faded away after the wise guy / jock / loverboy thing got old.. then Born On the Of 4th July happened. I think that changed a lot of things for him.

I think Cruises range somehow is a little incomparable with Sly & Arnie though. :lol

I think Magnolia was his best performance. But yeah even in his prime it's not like Arnold was ever capable of making a Rain Man or Vanilla Sky. :lol Cruise has unbelievable range.

But even if you ignore Cruise's wide range of options and just do a straight up action/sci-fi comparison with him and Arnold. You'd think Arnold should still be able to go toe to toe or even one-up Cruise but nope. Edge of Tomorrow was just last year and it was awesome, far superior to Genisys.

On paper "Groundhog Day the Action Movie" sounds stupid compared to "Finally Get to See the Future War Genisys." But no, not how it played out.

I think Arnold's biggest problem was that he had his fingers in too many pies. His multi faceted career is of course the stuff of legend itself, but it's cost him.

Such a long hiatus after playing the Guv certainly didn't help his acting chops & staying in the loop either. Bottom line though, if you've got it in you, you don't really need to be practicing in front of a mirror & taking bit parts to keep match fit. :lol

I've always loved Tom Cruise as an actor. I recently bought the special edition of 'Eyes Wide Shut' (hadn't seen it in years prior) & now appreciate the film - & his performance, on an entirely new level.

Eastwood has actually been directing since the early '70s (he even directed Unforgiven, and won the Academy Award for that). But he has had more staying power. I don't know if that's a function of him adapting to the times though, or just being really good at what he does. He is smart, has good taste, is creative, can act in a variety of roles (and always could), and had a compelling take on human behavior. Arnold, he was a great '80s action hero. But that's about it. He never struck me as particularly creative, or to have much range. So when the genre he excelled at died out, and as he got older he lost the one thing that he could really do well, and had to slum it by going into politics. Stallone had a similar story, though he obviously was a tremendous creative force in the late '70s with Rocky. That didn't seem to last though, and he became a bit of a parody of himself in the Rocky and Rambo sequels.

Cruise has a bit of range, to be sure, but in most of the films he is in nowadays, he plays more or less the same character. But he does it so damn well, that he doesn't need to change it up. Not sure why he doesn't age. Probably black magic.

When I referred to Eastwood transitioning to the director's chair I meant full time even though he does make an appearance on film here and there.

With Cruise's "range" I mean emotional range. He always responds so believably to any given situation, even if it's always "Tom Cruise responding to" whatever.
