Rewatched it.
The worst thing for me is the look of the movie, from the actors to the costumes, fx, cinematography...
Its just look freaking baaaaaadddd.
I would have given the script a pass if at least they respected the look, designs of the first 2 films.
What a turd.
I still haven't watched the second half, probably never will.

Sequel will have a time displacement machine in the Great Wall.

Bank on it.

I saw Genisys for the second time tonight. The rot is already setting in. I found it harder to like on this viewing and was checking the time a lot. My Dad fell asleep about 25 minutes in :lol

I would still say it has some good moments - good moments that entirely rely on nostalgia for T1 (obviously the original T-800 arriving in 1984 LA) or things we've wanted to see since T2 (the T-800 stepping into the time displacement field in 2029, Kyle Reese being sent after him). However once it gets past that into the Genisys stuff you kinda cease to care. It might have had some impact if Kyle Reese had been better cast with someone who'd be willing and able to channel Michael Biehn but with a Kyle Reese who instead might aswell have been a completely different character you feel no investment in this fated love story with Sarah Connor or in Reese's interactions with a reprogrammed 'protector' T-800 - things which should have been very interesting indeed in this new scenario. Alas, not to be.

Overall, a very cartoony film compared to the Cameron ones and, as such, impossible to consider as a real Terminator movie. My rating would drop to a generous 6 after tonight's viewing. Think I gave it a 7 or 7.5 first time out?

I don't plan to watch it again any time soon.

:lol

So much for that. I watched it again yesterday as I tried to assess if I even want to buy the NECA Genisys figures (they're on the way :lol )

I think it's going to be a guilty pleasure kind of film. I maintain what I said above, it's a cartoon compared to Cameron's films and as such it's not really part of the canon in my opinion. However, watching it this third time by myself without wondering if my Dad falling asleep was an indication that this film was so awful in his eyes that it even retroactively sours T1 and T2, it was OK again. Everything that is wrong with it is still wrong but it's reasonably entertaining.

- I still like Jason Clarke as John Connor and kinda wished we'd had longer with him as the real John Connor. I think there was potential there for him to be what Michael Biehn's Reese described....except maybe having Linda Hamilton's eyes.
- Lee's T-1000 is great, easily the most Terminator-like of all the Terminators in the film.
- Some of the score is very good. The new main theme in particular is very listenable and even quite emotive - that said the orchestra is totally at odds with Brad Fiedel's stuff in the first two films.

T1/T2

Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Terminator Genisys

Terminator 3/Terminator Salvation

Yeah, total retread but he did it well in a film where the T-800 was almost as far from the original portrayal as it can possibly get and the other villain Terminator in the film has personality, emotions and cracks jokes. Lee's T-1000 was a conventional Terminator performance.

It beat Pitch Perfect and so did Mad Max? I thought Pitch Perfect was due to be the year's big girly film which normally do obscenely well, no?
