Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I have to say I like the look, but like A-Dev said...it looks a little to modern sci-fi.
2nd thing I wondered:
This T-1000...it is supposed to be the Robert Patrick one, right?
Do any of you guys know if his likeness is put over Lee´s (the actor to actually portray the 1000 this time)?

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

DOFP still lacked that grit and haze though.

I loved how crappy everything looked in T1 and T2. Kyle Reese looked like ****, General John Connor looked old and tired like he saw a lot of horrible things go down. They might have been filming with miniatures or in a huge parking lot, but it still felt like hell. I love the opening shot in T1 with the skull in the foreground and the lasers going off in the distance, it set the mood. I love the transistion in T2 from that hazy, bright, traffic jammed highway to the aftermath with all the corpses in the cars. It too set the mood and felt real.

Salvation missed these vibes completely and felt too earthy and clean. DOFP was close, but was still artificial looking, especially with the sentinels. In fact, it reminded me a lot of Salvation, particularly with the human internment camps. DOFP was like Salvation with the lights turned down. Meh. Give me the underground tunnels, give me the moaning people watching a televisionon fire or the kids playing with (and possibly eating) rats. The T1 and T2 futures felt real with frightening machinery. Later on in Rise of the machines and Salvation, everything from the future wars to the endos and HKs felt like it was done in post-production.

Well I agree with all of your sentiments but I'm just saying that since we aren't going to get the grit and low budget grime of T1 that DOFP would be an acceptable "modern" alternative. Have you guys watched Snowpiercer yet? That's a modern film that I thought channeled 80's sci-fi very well. The scenes in the caboose were totally in the same vein as Kyle's future.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

That's what sucks. Why can't they achieve the same kind of look without a "low budget"? Why get all frivolous and glam it up?

If I'm making a Terminator film, why wouldn't I try to make it look like the original Cameron films instead of . . . a modern blockbuster?

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I haven't seen Snowpiercer, but can you make something look gritty and grimy - genuinely - digitally? Or with a $150 million budget?

Because studios want to make modern blockbusters?

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Good point, save some money and give us what we want, 80s grit. :lol

If he says "I'll be bacK" again i'm walking out.

This isn't Expendables 4.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

Because studios want to make modern blockbusters?

That ends up apeing other generic stuff that also have lukewarm receptions.

Why not just go back to the source of the franchise and make the money that way?

If this didn't make you walk out, nothing will :lol

Because these decisions are driven by soulless number crunching I guess. Do you think these stinking rich producers have any real understanding of the appeal of something like The Terminator? They see it as a franchise to be exploited. No different than opening up a new McDonald's somewhere.

But that's the thing, if they do it right, they'll still make money! Win-Win

You may have strong reasons to think that, but studio film-making is, by and large, a risk-averse enterprise. They would rather pump out some generic **** that they know will appeal to X moviegoers, than take a risk on something a bit different that has the potential to do much better, but also has the potential to do much worse. T: Salvation is probably a stronger influence than the original films when all is said and done here, despite their obviously maintaining the cosmetic connections to the earlier films. You aren't going to see lots of housewives, frat boys, and fans of Miley Cirus coming out to see some really gloomy, pessimistic, and awesome looking Terminator movie. They want to see something polished, with good looking leading men and women, shiny and inoffensive endos, and vague, superficial connections to films they know about but might not have even seen.

Most of the things I enjoy were built on risks. But you're right, what a shame.

They want to see something polished, with good looking leading men and women, shiny and inoffensive endos, and vague, superficial connections to films they know about but might not have even seen.

Then I say crush this mother ****er in a hydraulic press then throw the scraps into molten steel and be done with it! There's only one interesting Terminator film left to be made anyway, but these filmmakers can't see it. They instantly one franchises and trilogies.
