I think your logic of what makes a statue great is flawed because you think a small one is better than a bigger one.
The Venom Comiquette at 1:4 scale pees and poops over a 1:5 scale version.
Proof.
Smoke it.

Are you kidding me? The sculpt is what makes this a great statue, not just the size. If this was released at 1/5 scale it would still be an awesome statue. If you happen to like it better as a 1/4 piece, that's fine. However, if this was a crappy sculpt, it would still suck even at 1/4 scale.

I'm done talking about this. It's obvious you are the one smoking who is smoking something!:cuckoo:

I'm the one that's been smoking something, but I think it's helping me not care about the great PF/Comiquette debate.

I buy what's awesome and it's both PF and Com's , if you don't own the best then you as good as sauce.

Write that down.

Hmm....here I thought the actual sculpt itself is what distinguishes a good statue from a great one. But evidently it's all about size.

So Sideshow and Bowen should stop worrying about producing well crafted sculpts and simply produce the biggest statues possible?? Gotcha.....

:slap :cuckoo:

Hmm, I think something got lost in translation. INFECDEAD's point seems to be for the exact same sculpt a bigger format is preferential (pls correct me if I misinterpreted that Infecdead).

Thus, would you prefer the exact same sculpt of Venom from Sideshow in 1/6 scale rather than his current 1/4 scale. I know I wouldn't, but hey not everyone is the same and that's the beauty of individuality. Having seen well sculpted large pieces like Venom in 1/4 scale really dwarfs the rest and I know I wouldn't be as happy if he was smaller but if he was bigger (like 1:2 scale woo!) and the exact same sculpt, I wouldn't have a problem.

Doesn't detract from the fact that some small scales have great sculpts, but it's not for everyone.

What's important is we're all in this great hobby and whatever our preferences are, I guess we should accept others have differring opinions.

Now, back to Thanos.... :)

Definately to each thier own...however, its impossible to say "the exact same sculpt in a bigger format". Each size requires a new sculpt, or at very least additional detail. If you literally just increased the size of a 1/6 statue to 1/4 it would look under detailed and silly. Not to mention as counter intuitive as it seems, proportions need to change as statue size increases. For example, the same proportionate arm length going from 1/6 to 1/4 may not work due simply to perception of the enlarged piece.

Well with digital sculpting that is actually possible. But just imagine hypothetically taking a shrink ray to Venom and having him in 1/6 from 1/4 with the exact same detailing (thus it would look more detailed in 1/4) whether you would be just as pleased with him, I wouldn't but some would. I know I would not mind having him in 1/2 with the same amount of detail, it will definitely spread out the detail but looking at him now I would be fine with that.

Yep to each his own, some people like smaller pieces, some like their ajacent stuff in the same scale, and others just like a collage of scales in their display.

Fuzzy, his stance was clear. PF's are 20% bigger than POS comiquettes. Comiquettes suck because they are 1/5 scale and are smaller than PF's. That's what pissed me off. A beautiful sculpt is a beautiful sculpt regardless of scale. If he stated his stance as well as you do I would have just let this go. I know you perfer 1/4 scale statues to 1/5 scale ones. Hell, I do too. However, it's flat out silly to say a comiquette is a piece of ____ because it is 1/5 scale. That's just idiotic!:cuckoo: That is exactly what he said!

The issue of comiquette scale with someone who doesn't collect them is crazy! Scale should be an issue with fans of comiquettes. The Surfer comiquette is reportedly 1/4 scale. The Thanos Dio is 1/5 scale. This is a problem for comiquette fans. Those of us that collect only SS comiquettes have a problem. I really don't mind if ALL comiquettes were 1/5 scale. Most of them were released as 1/5 scale. However, every so often a 1/4 comiquette is released to mess up display options. SS needs to pick one scale and stick with it.

This issue with scale will make me wonder about displaying my Surfer comiquette with the Thanos dio. How can SS release a larger scale Surfer and a smaller scale Thanos? This is a mess SS needs to address.

Yeah, it would be nice to see a similar scale Thanos and Surfer eventually to display together. Hopefully, they are working on it.

I have them both on order. I pray they look good displayed next to each other. That's a whole lot of $$$$ to spend on statues that don't look good together!

Fuzzy I've had this discussion with Filip over 2 threads and before all the smack talk, doll labelling and noob calling started I was actually raising my point in a sensible way. Yes my argument has been misunderstood, deliberately by some here, but whatever. To me scale is important. My whole collection is based on 1:4 scale pretty much. If you took a great life size statue and shrunk it from 1:1 and then down through the scale sizes of 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5 and 1:6 the 1:1 will easily be the best version. It really is a law of diminishing returns or a devolution of the species. But in terms of displaying a lot of characters, on a budget with limited room 1:6 to 1:4 scale tends to be the norm.

I think Sideshow needs to settle on a scale and stop dicking around with all sorts of different scaled statues in the Comiquette line. Now I admit I am biased because of my collection of 40 PF's and want consistency in scale in representing the characters. I just can't understand the logic Sideshow has in making 1/5, borderline 1/6 and 1/4 scale Comiquettes. If Comiquettes were in scale with themselves that would be well and good. It sucks having characters that are not possible in PF form to be shrunk down 25% to 1/5 scale. The opposite equally applies to Comiquette collectors who get oversized characters in the range.

I started collecting Comiquettes with the first Iron Man and have been frustrated ever since with the scale being all over the shop. I would have bought the Punisher and Mystique Comiquettes no problem if they had been 1/4 scale. They are very nice sculpts, but that same sculpt would be better at 1/4 scale. The Punisher just doesn't cut it next to say the Hellboy 1 PF which is basically in the same pose but is dwarfed by it.

I actually prefer 1/3 scale over 1/4 scale - the Cinemaquettes I have for me are the perfect size to manage a large number of statues in a display and they absolutely dominate the 1/4 scale statues I have. This is why I guess I feel so strongly about how much less of an impact a 1:5 statue has compared to a 1:4 one.

In an online chat for Fantacular I think it was - one to the top dogs over at Sideshow said he didn't see differences in scale being an issue for the Comiquette line. Well it is for me, and I'm not buying them in 1:5.
