I'll agree that I prefer the mystery to any kind of explanation. But if I had to accept Ridley Scott's at gunpoint, eh, it could've been worse.

How does it even make sense though - how long before Alien are Prometheus and Covenant supposed to be set? One got the impression in Alien that the derelict on LV426 had been there for a very long time (long enough that its cargo of eggs would pre-date David the android).

The crew of the Prometheus arrives in 2093. And the events in Alien with the Nostromo crew are supposed to be set in 2122.
I don't know if it was Ridley Scott's intent or not, but Prometheus takes place at about the same time when Ripley would've been born. That's an easy way to remember the time gap.
An ancient derelict ship that has been a wreck on that planet for hundreds maybe thousands of years with its creepy cargo is far more eerie when it is discovered. Its like waking some ancient evil... a portal to another time and place...

Yeah, while I also preferred the mystery of the original, I'm fine with David being the creator.
But it does mess up the "fossilised" Space Jockey. The idea that it had been there for (probably) millions of years made it really eerie, as Wor says.

Foreboding parallel is right. I always thought the space jockeys just went through the same thing the Nostromo crew did... such a better story when it?s all mystery..
I do enjoy the prequels in a fan fiction sort of way.. They are there own films with nothing to do with the originals.
In that way I really enjoy those two films

The other night I watched A L I E N in 4k this time on the Xbox Series X. The reason being I have the Dolby Atmos for headphones app.
Although the soundtrack isn't in Atmos, the app does convert it. This turned out to be an entirely terrifying experience as there's sounds that I've never realised were there within the mix.
When Brett stands under the landing leg with the water dripping on his baseball cap, it sounds like it's falling on your head. And Lambert's final scream is even more unpleasant as it echoes in your head.

He didn't say **** about his Alien reboot. Joe tried to get it out of him, but Neill wouldn't give it to Rogan, so Joe then pointed out how inferior Aliens is when compared to Alien, hehe. So Aliens sucks. Michael Biehn is in Aliens too. Coincidence? I think not!!!!! I rest my case.

There was a time when a proper sequel to ALIENS was my most wanted film, even moreso than the yet to be made PT and if anyone could have done it justice it may very well have been Blomkamp. Oh well.

I enjoy even Blomkamp's less popular films so I agree, he was as good a candidate as any to do a sequel to Aliens. Still kinda wish it would happen but meanwhile Sigourney and Biehn are getting older and older
