While I enjoyed Arnold in Genisys, I'm to the point now where I don't care enough for new Terminator films that I feel any sense of wait for the next one, when it actually starts production I might get excited but at this point I could care less if or when it comes. I think when it was announced that Genisys would not continue Salvation, I gave up, Salvation feels like the start to a series and I'm just tired of investing in a multi-part storyline that doesn't continue. Terminator is starting to be like the Godzilla films of early 2000, this will be the 3rd start of a series of films.

This is going to be a long couple years of updates about a film that eventually won't get made.

Oh it will get made alright. It's like Maulfan said though, this will unfortunately be the third time they've "rebooted" the series, so once this inevitably fails we may not see a terminator movie for a very long time. Not continuing salvation was a mistake, even small references would've sufficed. Having Bale play Connor was awesome too, he just needed more to work with.

Honestly if Furlong wasn't in rehab at the time and had instead starred in Terminator 3 it would have been hard to dismiss it as canon. Having Arnold, Furlong, and Silberman all in the same movie again would have given it a lot of credibility, especially since Sarah conveniently died off screen. But once you recast a major player you make your film subject to dismissal unless it's really, really good.

Good point. I'm sick of there being a new actor playing John every F'ing time.

Edward Furlong and the actor that played future John in T2 were better John Connor performances than Stahl, Bale, the Zoolander guy from the Sarah Connor tv show and that dude from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Bale was bad, one of his worst performances. All he does in that movie is fall to the ground, scream and talk in his Batman voice.

Yes and now that I think of it if they really want this new film to feel like an extension of *only* T2 and nothing else then they *must* find a way to get Furlong in shape and reprise his role. Otherwise it will be just another replacement John in a long line of "fake" sequels.

The Force Awakens would not have worked as a "passing the torch" movie if some guy other than Ford gave up the Falcon or if Rey offered Luke's lightsaber to anyone but Hamill.

Yeah but his voice never broke. He just didn't end up looking or sounding like someone anyone would follow into battle.

I'd prefer that they kill john off. Have a Terminator go back in time, kill john, reset the timeline, and start this trilogy with new characters and just Sarah Conner returning for one or two films.

You wouldn't even need Furlong to get off drugs and into shape. :monkey1

True. Same with adult Jake Lloyd. If Lucas had waited 10 years to make AOTC so that Lloyd could still play the character his screen presence would have been a joke. I'm just saying that since they are continuing the series (which is a bad idea in and of itself IMO) then they need to at least keep the same actor for John, high pitched voice or not.

I honestly think with all the Syfy original movie writing they forced on us with the last one... just stick with the history that we know. Make it the timeline where T2 doesn't exist yet (sorry a-dev) and have Sarah "go into hiding before the war" with John and we get a proper future war film. Show us the 1997 Judgment Day we've been hearing about for 30 years.

I'm honestly tired of it getting delayed since outside of mediocre T3, it's the one angle they haven't taken yet.

If they want this to be another trilogy, just guide it up to The Terminator Arnie, Reese, Uncle Bob and T-1000 going back in time. It's the best cut off point IMO while keeping the first two films canon.

So basically Terminator Genisys?

Wasn't there murmurings that with the timeline change in the last one that John was going to be a girl? :lol

I haven't even seen any mention of John by Cameron or in any of these reports. In fact I was initially under the impression Cameron intended a full reboot - no relation whatsoever to the originals - then I thought it was a reboot but with Arnie still having some role - and then this Linda Hamilton news comes and they're saying it is in fact a straight up sequel to T2.

With Cameron supposedly writing the story that gives me a little faith that this may be decent.

What if they said that Sarah got married after T2 and while pregnant Edward Furlong got hit by a bus and killed. Sarah's husband says "you know I always did like the name John." There'd be a twist for you. No one ever said that future savior John had to be an only child. Maybe a T-1000 was even driving the bus that killed "John One" and then went into hiding not realizing that it actually paved the way for the real John to take center stage.

In her grief Sarah never speaks of the older brother that died so no one in the Resistance (or Skynet) ever knew he had one.
