After Terminator Genysis, the only way to go is up. Jim Cameron wants to fix his baby.

Too bad it has no mass audience anymore- it's just futile to make another one and the only reason it's being made is Cameron is behind it...

SO I just watched the series of films again with my two kids. It was their first time viewing any of them.

Just some of my thoughts after watching them all over the past week

T1 - Still the king. IMO. This is a Sci Fi / Horror masterpiece. I would not change a thing. This was my kids fav also.

T2 - Not without flaws but the 2nd best in the series. I think if it had a better 3rd act I would like the movie a lot more... I kinda feel the film loses its way when Sarah goes after Miles Dyson. It not bad.. I just think its not as well done as the first hour and a half. My kids enjoyed it.

T3 - Casting ruins this film for me. I don't hate the humor, I don't hate the story. But man I hate the guy Playing John Connor. I actually love the terminatrix in this film and find some of the action in this film to be some of the best in the series. My kids thought it was OK but they thought it was a big step down.

T4 - I don't get the hate for this one. I think overall its really well done/paced/directed. Again I think the final act does not live up to the first part. I think some of the effects are outstanding. The flying HKs and Terminator bikes look real to me. I like the direction they took with the Marcus Wright... I love the Casting of Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin RIP :() and I think Bale is the best John Connor.. Of course that is not saying much. Its not perfect but every time I watch it I am fully entertained. My Oldest did not like the Transformer sized Terminator machine at all.. I did not mind it :)

T5 - Ugh... I hate everything about this film.. Everything. But more then anything I hate the "Moonlighting" relationship with Sarah and Kyle (bad casting also) and I hate what they did with John Connor. I don't find anything in this film to be fun or interesting. My kids hated it also.

Anyways it was a fun watch. As I said T1 is still king but I would say that I enjoyed T2 more then I ever have before. Of course its the first time I have watched it since seeing T5 in the theaters. I was proud of my kids taste in the films also (no input from me until the films were over and I got their opinions first :) ).

For the record I never disliked T2 which some might think I have from past comments and even by me saying I liked it more this time then ever before.. I always just thought it was overrated and never understood the love. But its a solid movie for sure. Perhaps if it was the first film I would feel differently.

I'm amazed your kids liked T1 the most JAWS. For kids I would have thought the most recent would be best because of its modern-day pacing and because they'd have no attachment to the classics.

Myself, I watched T1 recently and then skipped right to T3 - the contrast :lol

I think the biggest issue with T4 was reimagining tech that was established. Keep the established Tech the way it was, leave out new tech that feels too Transformers influenced and the rest would fall into place. T1 made it seem like the T-800s were a huge leap forward, so for me, things like the motorcycle terminators seemed advanced beyond that, that’s my problem. The T1/T2 HKs seemed like basic, clunky machines that were easier to defeat, so onto ground units and the evolution of the T series.

Ummm excuse me Mr but

T2 > T1

Agreed.

T1 is far from being an inferior film. It's a question of preference. Both have very strong merits going for them, but they're very interchangeable. It's actually a good thing this is still an on going thing within the fanbase, which just goes to show how strong a sequel it was.

I prefer T1 since T2 is too Hollywood and lighthearted. With that said, I went two decades thinking the complete opposite.

I think part of T2 being so popular was just the pure spectacle of it. A "good" Terminator, an insane use of technology to make a new liquid metal Terminator, and ****ed up bad-ass Linda Hamilton was a big deal back then so I get why people argue that it's better than T1. I love T2--however, even watching them back-to-back now, I still prefer T1. Putting the aging effects aside, it's an absolute sci-fi/thriller masterpiece.

There's so much atmosphere within it. And Arnie's cold menacing demeanor permeates every scene he's in.

I really don't get any sense of atmosphere in T2, or dread. Everything is just blue.

One of the things I like about T3 is the T-850 isn't 'good.' It's just doing what it was programmed to do. And the fact that it was a terminator that succeeded in killing John Connor and then sent back to protect him.

As for the T1 v T2. Love em both but yea T1 is just more gritty, low budget sci-fi horror. Love it.

Since T2 doesn’t have a villain problem obviously thanks to Patrick’s T1000 I find T2 to have the better overall character interactions and plot dynamics especially with the addition of young connor and Sarah teaming up with the Terminator.

Just alot more fleshed out dynamics to sink your teeth into.

Not that T1 is inferior in any way that is a low budget beast of a scifi horror movie.

But I just find T2 to be more sophisticated in its structure, Cameron had grown as a filmmaker and it showed.
