He did respect her father, but at the end of the day he loves Gwen and wants to be with her.

You don't know what a douchbag is do you? A self centered jerk who cares more about himself than others. Spiderman is a hero. Also a kid. It's like you know nothing about the character. Spiderman made terrible mistakes worse than this. Neglecting aunt may and his friends. He's a child who grows into the role of spiderman. So yea. If Gwen dies because of his selfishness then that's part of his growing process. Spiderman isn't perfect like capt america. He's a growing character. His selfish mistake is what made him spiderman to begin with. So if you think he's a douchbag maybe you just don't like the character.
