When acting with a mask you have to express your emotions through your body actions. Slumped shoulders and lowered head can indicate defeat and sadness. Shaking can indicate anger and frustration. You have to become a more Physical actor to convey your feelings.
The movies have the added advantage that he can speak, music and camera direction. Remember the scene where Spidey webs the criminal on the wall? Garfield did a good job with the silliness Spidey displays when using his web shooters. He danced around, pretended to sneeze, etc. you could see Spidey's emotion through his actions.
Then he snapped to attention and the music even darkened once he focused on the guy's wrist tattoo. You could tell it was a tense and serious moment as was Spidey's attitude behind the mask.
I'm a bit confused now. You were arguing vociferously that we need to see faces or physical changes in the mask of some kind to appropriately convey emotion, yet here you seem to admit that you don't need to take the mask off to show emotion?
No, but i appreaciate the way Bardoon articulated his point and added to the discussion in a mature and positive manner.
One doesn't have to fully agree with anothers opinion to respect the way in which they present it.
I've heard complaints that the suit is to cartoony and I couldn't help but laugh. Some people really don't understand the concept of a "comic book" movie. Yea it can be dark but for the most part it should be fun and vibrant. Atleast for a character like spidey. But he can be dark to
I remember everybody making a big fuzz in the Wolverine thread and praising the Jackman for his Wolverine and saying he's a much better Wolverine without the suit and mask.
"mneh mneh mneh Da mask iz seelleey and it don't werk on moveez"
Yeah, the cgi in this movie looks videogamish, but only cause Spiderman videogames in the past have made a great job translating Spidey's moves an moving medium.
Someone could have done the same with Steve Rogers or Bruce Wayne in their civvies. Wolverine's comic costume is no more ridiculous than Superman or Spider-Man.
Bad pic, we already went through it, remember? if an amateur cosplayer can make a semi decent costume and a youtube channel can get the costume to look good, there's no reason a professional designer can't do wonders with it.
Just ignore the socks gloves
I hear those kind of critiques no matter how good the CGI is. Some people are never going to be happy with it. But if they want this kind of comicbook-like action, they have to deal with the CGI. It really can't be done another way.
As for looking like a video game... that's a damn good looking video game.
That still looks hokey as ****. I think the mask looks better in the X-Force colors like the vs. Batman vid:
