I've made several posts about what I like that I've seen, I've made several posts about the things that I don't like. The people jumping on me when I make positive posts in this thread are doing the exact same things that people are doing when I make remarks about what I don't like. Alot of us may fall in the midground and like some of what we've seen and dislike what we've seen, but you know just as well as I do theres as many people who are going to disagree with anything negative put out in this thread regardless of the vailidity of the concern as there are people going to disagree with any positive, no matter how positive it looks.

Spin it how you like, I don't care if you're pro or con, if you're going to type the same answer over and over regardless of quality of what is being discussed, without any consideration of what the poster is trying to say, both parties are doing the exact same thing.

Yea maybe we all just need to relax or somthing. This time of the year always makes people angry. Summer movie season..... Lol

A library of dissertations could be written on "NamMagazine and the Sociology of the Sideshow Freaks Forum." But what it all boils down to is that some people just can't get along, and push each others' buttons in different ways (some intentional, some unintentional), which leads to escalation and more conflict. One of the keys is just not to take any of it very personally, or really very seriously, and then it won't blow up as frequently and as violently as it sometimes does. But. . .I don't suppose that's human nature.

On another note, in general, you're going to get folks who like films, and those who don't like films posting in threads for a given film. Folks should accept that. It's the nature of a public discussion. If you don't like it, maybe you could start your own "group" on the forum, and invite like-minded folks--who either all love or hate movie X--to participate.

Oh I completely agree. But when you're telling everyone how much you hate Electro do you chastise those who feel differently?

If you like what Sony, Fox, or WB are doing with their superhero franchises, then you’re considered a hipster on here. Some folks like to forget bringing all the derogatory crap that they throw around, and are quick to play victim as if they’re just posting their distaste for these films.

It goes both ways. Within the last 2 pages, there are plenty of examples of freaks being chastised and ranted on for posting their dislikes. I notice you failed to acknowledge that (probably intentionally). :lol

This should be the final word.

That's gospel right there. :lol

I cleaned up a fair amount of the griping for now. I'll get more of it later. Just try to be civil folks that's all we ask.

Also posting gifs that stir things up will get you an infraction.

I’ll save this for the next time Riddick posts here.

If I'm putting out my opinion and people start slinging things like "whiners" etc... yeah, I'll fire back. Not that two wrongs make a right, but I get sick of it. It doesn't matter if I'm on the positive or negative side of the conversation, it gets old. I don't think my stance of being pro or con on a movie has anything to do with respect. Its a seperate issue and thats been my point all night, its exists on both sides. Maybe if both views were given a little more breathing room and a little less snark, there would be a lot less conflict. We'll probably never know, cause it just doesn't seem like we'll ever get to that point.

Raiders > Last Crusade
As a big fan of TLC I find this offensive!

My own feeling is that an insult toward a film is not an insult toward me. Similarly, a criticism to a feeling I hold toward a film ("i.e., that Ghost Rider was a fantastic movie, and I just don't get how everyone doesn't agree with me!"), is not an insult toward me. I didn't make these films, and I don't have to defend them in the way I would a friend or family member. However, an insult toward me, or people like me (however they are conceptualized) IS an insult to me. So when folks talk about "whiners" as Niltusk brings up, or more explicitly says something like "you are displaying your stupidity here," or then that's a problem. You don't even have to say "whiners like you," if it is obvious that others posting would be included in that group.

To me, this is fairly straight-forward, and at the essence of what is meant by civil discourse. None of us are perfect, and we all take jabs at others here in one way or another from time to time. But it does get out of hand sometimes, and once there is a heated conflict between members that might be a good time to question whether all the argumentation is worth it, when folks aren't going to change opinions, and even reality and hard evidence mean very little once these squabbles escalate to a certain point. It's just perpetuating a cycle.

:lecture Right, I don't think we'd be having this conversion if people would go into a thread and say something along the lines of "Man Electro looks like **** because he's blue and translucent," versus "Only douches think Electro looks good. He looks like ****. :lol"

Once again, Kara gets it 100% accurate.

No need to insult others with name calling.

But I am calling your cherished movie a stinking poo! :lol

I'm looking at you Brian Singer. :lol

While you are cleaning, can you answer this so its a little more clear?

Pro: We love this
Mid: this is good, but oooh, that needs work
Con: OMG the director is on crack.

Is it okay for any one of these three groups to make comments like "these whiners" or "These little *****" etc...

Cause this thread is filled with posts like that, where someone refers to the "other group" of people rather than discussing the movie, because they don't want to hear the others opinion and/or devalue it. If you think its not going on, I can link it multiple times from this thread alone over the last couple months. This seems like pure "stirring things up" or is it cool to insult others as long as we're doing it in this passive/aggressive manner?

I would expect someone to be able to share their opinion with details that support their feelings without resorting to name calling. Just like I do with my students when they enter a classroom.
