Still it was a great movie but it wasnt all that great like people keep saying in my opinion..

Sorry that it was only "great" but not "great" :lol

It is a device allowing for a retcon, so that we can get new movies that aren't constrained by the previous ones. Essentially a reboot allowing access to existing actors and "universe" to the extent that they want to. I definitely don't see that as a bad thing, as otherwise we wouldn't have access to several classic X-characters who are either dead or would have aged out in a continuation of the timeline started in X1. And as icing on the cake, we can get cool period films with this characters.

Is your issue with retcons? Retcons have been happening in comics since the earliest days. Cap's being frozen from WWII was a retcon, as it never happened in the Timely Comics series. DC has been nothing but retcon after retcon since Crisis on Infinite Earths. But even that wasn't the case with Dallas as far as I know. A story that alters the flow of historical events (as was the case with the DOFP comic of course, and the Terminator movies) isn't the same as a story that "was only a dream."

Take a deep breath Kara, and spend the needed 10min to unbunch your panties. You took that post out of context. :lol

The purpose of DofP was to ditch the continuity of the previous films in a way that allows you to use the same characters. That was the same reason for making that whole Dallas a dream, to unwrite the death of JR. :wave

Hahaha, post the horse video, I must have a bad memory cause I'm not getting the reference.

I 101% agree with what JAWS just wrote.

Those are my exact feelings.

GOTG was fun, but no Avengers or TWS.

Some things just didn't work for me, music was the best part.

DOFP I won't even buy on dvd

Now if I could only get you to hate on Transformers 4 ;)

:lol

But at least it was the best Wolverine-gets-his-ass-kicked-while-Magneto-lifts-something-huge movie ever made. :lecture ;)

ASM2 was good while TWS blows away everyone else. Always good to see another person who knows what he's talking about. :)

:hi5: Khev and JAWS!!! Nothing can stop us!!!! Our clearly superior film taste, frustrates all!

I think Jaws and Khev have the same pot dealer. Quit bogarting his number, jerks! :lol

Not even thenamemagazine can stop us!! :)

LOL, Nam used to use that one all the time when we were arguing in a GI Joe thread or whatever. There were others, but that was always the best.

90% of the time, a most fitting response to Kara's nonsensical counter arguments. Plus it was silly, added levity to an otherwise annoying discussion and wasn't infractable. :lol

True. Now they're only constrained by the ending of DOFP itself which shows us all the mutants who cannot be killed in any new movies set before that time period lest it once again **** up the continuity. :lol

At which point I'm sure another Wolverine will come from an alternate timeline to Dallas it again. :lol

You know you're just trying to get a rise out of him though. :lol Obviously you could have just as easily said that Wolverine was pulling a "Marty McFly" or a "Kyle Reese" but instead compare him to "Dallas" just to make it seem stupider and annoy kara in the process. :lol

Kara was unexpected collateral damage. :lol I didn't expect that post to tie his panties into the Gordian Knot. :rotfl

Those examples don't make as much sense in the context he's talking about. Both of your examples are dealing with characters in series dealing with timetravel. Timetravel isn't introduced afer several movies for those characters, it's central to who they are in their storylines/movies. What Dallas and DofP share are an introduced device utilized to change things perceived as unfavorable to fans. . No one was watching X-3 thinking, thank god this is just going to be fixed with time travel, just as no one was watching Dallas thinking, thank god these are just dream episodes, in both cases, the idea 'fixed' a previous point that fans had issue with. If he had used the characters you mentioned it would serve no point in the argument he was making. I don't see why you'd assume the Dallas reference was to piss anyone off, it's not like Nam created that concept today, I've seen it already referenced as that before. Not just here, in the DofP thread, but other sites as well.

I think the Star Trek reboot would be the best thing to compare it too, since it actually used time travel and not a dream to “reboot” a franchise while leaving the originals canon.

And since the DOFP is one of, if not the greatest X-Men stories of all time, it makes the big screen adaptation seem less like a business strategy and a bit more natural since Fox’s source material was actually an X-Men story written more than 25 years ago to pull from.
