He should wear some pants then, he's practically naked.

There we go.

I love that the trailer showcases some of the practical stunts. Just can't beat 'em, imo! :exactly:

Actually, you can. See, practical stunts work when a human being can physically do the things required. Raimi had that part right, because a human being COULD NOT do the things Spider-Man could do. Spider-Man needs to be inhuman with his movements. That's what makes him visually cool to watch.

Those stills do look bad... The CGI looks graceful and effortless. The stills look physically grueling. But in motion, that one GIF doesn't look bad.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

No, it looks fine. But it also looks like a person swinging on ropes. I don't know, I always thought Spider-Man had Spider like movements. He would crouch and flip in inhuman ways.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I think there is a happy medium with practical and CGI. Using practical stunts when at all possible, then filling in the moments where Spidey needs to make those "humanly impossible" movements with CGI.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I agree. I thought Raimi did a good job of that. There was always a practical shot of Spidey, and then when he was doing Spidey things, it became CG. And it looked pretty good back then.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I just laugh when I hear any director say that CGI will be used to a minimum on a superhero or action movie :lol

Yeah right.

You know, like it was with KOTCS.

Give me a great looking Spidey swinging and kicking ass and I won't care if it took NASA to make it work.

CGI shouldn't be hated. If the object or thing cannot be created practically, it should be CGIed.

:goodpost:

Even Christopher Nolan uses CGI and he's very vocal against it. I think Batman, Prestige, and Inception all used CGI to enhance all the practical stuff. That's how it should be used. I wish more filmmakers thought so!

CGI should be used as an AID in the storytelling process, not AS the storytelling. (Someone tell George Lucas that)

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

My Art of Film professor had a pretty cool POV on CGI, he said some director's use the word as a verb instead of a noun, like "oh, well just CGI it."

Kinda have to agree, CGI is like taking the lazy way out for certain shots, but it has indeed improved films if used correctly (like the nolan example above, or in T2)

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

besides, I think is pretty stupid to bad mouth these shots of a practical spiderman full well knowing that this movie will probably have 70 to 80 Percent of spiderman in the air CGI, so a few real practical shots, will look amazing.......
I mean, The entire Lizard scenes will be CGI, he won't be real at all, not like Doc Oc or Green Goblin... I would have thought people would have really liked this real and practical spiderman shots, from a movie that will be mostly CGI in some scenes

Yeah, I always think of the IM (especially 2) films when it comes to really good use of CGI. When they cut from the CGI to the real suits you can't even tell the difference. But they put in the extra work and the suits look amazing in close ups.

Wonder if they are making a practical Lizard suit for ASM for close ups etc. But I doubt it.
