Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Because regardless of how good he is as Spidey/parker Toby Maguire is our Spidey. You can't fit it or choose it, I think your missing my point here. If I was born in 1999, Christian Bale would be my Batman because that's who I grew up watching and knowing as Batman. Keaton, Kilmer, and the rest would all always seem foreign to me.

Just like the new generation of Star Wars fans to them Obi-Wan Kenobi is Ewan, to use it's Sir Alec. Just the way the world turns.

I see where you are coming from, but it does not always work like that.

Adam West was Batman when I was a kid, and Keaton was Batman when I was 18, but it would be Keaton over West, and then Bale over Keaton for me.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Oh yeah he was in Red Riding.
The guy's a good actor

He was pretty good in "Boy A" also!

Interested to see how this will turn out. I think he will be pretty good in the role. Shall see!

He atleast looks like he can pull off awkward geeky teen.

He's giving me this kind of vibe: And I wasn't too keen on that series.

Same with me. Bale has been the perfect Batman. And Tobey was pretty good as Spidey. I'll just have to see how the new guy does. If he gets the essence of the character right, then that's all I care about. But it's also as much a job for the director than it is for the actor to get the right feel of the characters.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I think he'd be a better cast if they are going to pick up with Spider-Men 4 instead of rebooting. He does have a pretty good Peter Parker look. I think he'll be fine.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Ultimate Spider-man Stinks IMO.
This actor fits perfectly.
Peter "Buckethead" Parker.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

He's got my vote. I thought Marvel wanted a younger (a kid, basically) for the reboot? This guy barely looks younger than Tobey did in the first Spidey movie. But whatever, I'm looking forward to seeing what he looks like in the costume.

Tis' the way of Hollywood. Not as bad as it could be one of the teenagers in the new 90210 is 32. I think because so many names were leaking out we are assumed younger but I have a feeling that Sony wanted old that could play young all along.

and there is Avi Arad. The Joel Schumacher of the Spider-Man world.

Peter David, Todd McFarlane, Mark Millar and more!
With the recent casting of British actor Andrew Garfield as the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man, MTV's Splash Page editor-in-chief Rick Marshall contacted comic book creators, including Peter David, Todd McFarlane and Mark Millar, to get their thoughts on whether they thought Garfield was a good choice.
McFarlane is probably best known for his run on "Amazing Spider-Man" and the spin-off comic "Spider-Man" during the '90s, which famously introduced the fan-favorite character Venom. Here's part of what he had to say about the casting:
Spider-Man is a juggernaut in and of himself, so you have the luxury of getting 500 tests and picking the best talent that will make the character. That's what they're saying they did, and I'm going to take them at their word. They didn't feel pressured to put in a guy everybody knows, who's one of the sexiest guys under 25 or anything. Peter Parker has a skinny neck and isn't the biggest guy on the block. He doesn't usually get picked first when it's time to put together a baseball team at recess. As I look at images of Andrew Garfield, he sort of falls into that category.
Peter David has written the character numerous times over the years as well, so he had his own take on the character based on having seen his previous movie, Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus:
I think this displays yet again Terry Gilliam's brilliant eye for casting. Garfield was excellent as Anton in "The Adventures of Doctor Parnassus," and if he brings to "Spider-Man" even a fraction of both the intensity and vulnerability that he displayed in Gilliam's latest masterwork, then fans will be more than satisfied with the casting choice. If nothing else, I hope they'll seek out "Parnassus" to get a preview of the next Peter Parker, since "Parnassus" is a film that deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.
Lastly, they have some thoughts from the equally out-spoken Mark Millar, whose most famous Spider-Man related story involved Peter Parker unmasking himself during "Civil War":
I think he's a great choice. I picture-googled him this morning, which made me feel a bit creepy, and looked at about ten consecutive pages of images, which made me seem creepier still. But in some shots he looks like a drawing of Peter Parker. From some angles, he looks like the brilliant Mike Wieringo's Parker, and from others he's like a Romita Snr. Either way, he's a great fit and I loved him in "Red Riding."
You can read what some of the other comic book creators had to say about Garfield's casting over at Splash Page. And if you want to read one of ComingSoon.net's previous interviews with Garfield, here's one from 2008 for his early movie Boy A. Around that time, he was also up for another comic-related project.

A look at the alleged female lead shortlist
The Spider-Man reboot is looking for its female lead and Heat Vision claims to have the shortlist of actresses who have met for the part.

The articles also states that the character of Mary Jane Watson will not be the film's love interest, leading to speculation that the storyline will add either Gwen Stacy, Felicia Hardy (the Black Cat), another of Peter Parker's past loves or may feature an all-new character created especially for the film.

Heat Vision's list includes the following (from left to right):

Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest), Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy), Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, the upcoming remake of Fright Night), Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer's Apprentice, I Am Number Four) and Emma Roberts (Hotel for Dogs, Valentine's Day).

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the upcoming The Thing prequel) is listed as having just been dropped from the running.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Black Cat seems like she would be a bit too old for a teenage Parker. I hope it's Gwen. The first one and the last two are the most attractive. I dunno which would make the best Gwen Stacy, but I lean toward one of the last two.

500 Days of Peter Parker seems to be progressing well....

Emma Stone as MJ I could live with.

Mia Wasikowska and Emma Stone Possible Candidates for Lead Roles in ‘Spider-Man’
Posted on Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Sony has been remarkably good so far about keeping details of the upcoming Spider-Man reboot totally quiet. We know that Andrew Garfield is set as Peter Parker. (After seeing him in The Social Network, you’ll probably really understand why.) But that’s just about all we know. Who is the villain? What character will be the female lead and who will play her? Open questions right now.

But the latest report says there will be two female leads, and that Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Jane Eyre) and Emma Stone (Zombieland, Easy A) have been working with Sony, Garfield and director Mark Webb in readings and tests.

EW reports that the two actresses are now in the mix, and supposes that means the roles are classic romantic interests Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy. The immediate conclusion to draw is that Emma Stone would be Mary Jane and Mia Wasikowska Gwen Stacy.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I pray the reboot to X-Men First Class doesnt suck. Never cared for spiderman

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

With Andrew Garfield, a relative unknown cast for Pete, I really doubt they'll go obscure for the female leads. Although Mia isn't really well known outside of Alice, Emma Stone is just enough celebrity to not overpower the film.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Emma Stone as MJ....I'm Actually Really Happy with that choice, thanks for the update Mike
