Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Excellent news. Nice review as well.

I was remaining a bit cautious in my opinions about this movie, but I think it'll be pretty great.

Thanks for alleviating some of my concerns.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Okay just back from seeing this. Wow where do I start. Well I'm not going to spoil this for anyone other than to say this is the Spider-man I grew up reading. It was pitch perfect with the right amount of story and action. The tone, look and feel of this movie is completely different to the Raimi trilogy. In many ways it is an Indy movie, I know that will sound strange, maybe it's how the director envisioned it. The casting was great all round. The cinematography was superb and the 3D added to the look and contributed to an overall pleasant experiance. The one let down is the score, there was no inspiring piece of music to associate with our hero.

This is every bit as good as Avengers, but it is as different from Avengers as you could possibly get. This is no team sport. I really hope this gets the box office it deserves which should be alot. I cannot wait to discuss this one with you guys when you eventually get to see it.

Highly recommended 9.5/10

thanks for the reviews was there alot of wisecracking even in the fight scenes ?

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Yes there was plenty of wisecracking and some nice comedy among all the actors. Some touching scenes also. A very nice entry into what should be a great franchise.

Let's just say the action sequences between Spidey and Lizard surpass those of the excellent Spidey v Doc Oc. There is one scene in particular which will blow your mind.

Oh and without doubt the best cameo with Stan Lee.

:clap:clap
Great review but im still optomistic. Im hearing good things but im not getting my hopes up like I did with spidey 3. Im glad to hear its its different.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

It is so different in style and feel to the original trilogy. Much like Nolans Batman Begins was different from from the previous Batman movies. To me it benefits from the real action sequences and lack of CGI. The Spidey swinging and crawling sequences are brilliant.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Exactly as Ditko drew him. He has a human quality to his face.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Nice to hear, can you rate the SM movies now?

That's a very high score. (did the origin dealio effect your love of spidey at all?)

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

SM1 - 7/10
SM2 - 8/10
SM3 - 6/10

ASM 9.5/10. With a better score I'd have given it full marks. Although hinted at the "search for his past" did not consume the script. Much better casting in the main leads IMO.

9.5/10? Damn, that's good! :yess:

Just out of curiosity, what did you rate these:

Avengers:

TDK:

BB:

Ghost Rider:

Spidey 2:

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Yeah, I have the 4" figure which looks great. So the reports of him looking too "CG'd" are false then?

For me it looked fine and not too false. Certainly not video game CGi. The transformation scenes looked good. He was huge in comparison to Spidey.

Avengers 10/10 Loved it.
TDK 8.5/10
BB 7.5/10
Ghost Rider 4/10
SM2 (see rating above).

I know I rated Avengers higher but I took the previous stand alone build up into consideration. This is a much better individual film than any of Marvels Avenger members. Some will disagree and I will admit I'm first and foremost a Spidey fan. Also the score is not strong in ASM.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Damn this is good news! One more thing. Do the quips and smart-ass remarks ever become too much? I know they work well in comics and from what i've seen they work, but do they get old?

(you and i seem to rate things about the same)

I hope ASM is as good as you say, and you're not just 'riding the high' of just seeing the movie....like the time I walked out of ID4 (as a teenager) proclaiming "It was better than Star Wars!"

Excuse me while I go flog myself again...

Thanks for those, we are close in ratings, so this is hopefully a home run for me! :D

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

No the wisecracking never overpowers the script. The actor playing Spidey has a natural shyness as Peter Parker and his alter ego Spider-man allows him a level of confidense he lacks in school. This has been cleverly written as a beginning chapter and I look forward to the sequels.

That's great news! Thanks! A shame about the score though. Seems par for the course nowadays, unfortunately. :(
