Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

What I liked about Tobey was that he was so average-looking, bordering on ugly. I think that worked for the character. I know they don't draw Parker like that in the comics, as everyone in them is a Greek Adonis. But because the character is a smart, socially awkward, nerdy, loser-type, it makes perfect sense that he should NOT be handsome. It makes it all feel a little more realistic, and the character arc that much stronger, that such an average looking guy can become a great hero.

So I think Garfield is a little too good looking for the role. It's just a very obvious way for Hollywood to go. But I'm not going to boycott the movie because of it. I'm sure Garfield will play the role fine. I just thought Tobey was a bolder choice.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I thought Maguire was great as Parker/Spiderman. Simmons was hilarious as JJJ. Snaggletoothed Dunst was meh.

As for the reboot, Spiderman 2 will be very hard to beat.

Really? I think he's just right.

Who knows. Maybe they'll decide let's make Gwen a redhead and MJ a blonde! :dunno:

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Too early to say, but I doubt this thing beats Rami's first two Spider-Man films, especially the second one. I hope it tanks at the box office.

Why would you want it to tank, we haven't even seen or heard anything of Value yet......i like getting new movies, we the fans win as long as the movie is done right....

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Comparing this to Raimi's is like comparing Keaton's Batman to Bale's. They'll be two different projects, two different feels, two different points of view and have fans on both sides. In the end as Comic fans we win because we keep seeing the hero on screen and those who don't like it always have DVD/Blu-Ray.

:exactly::lecture

why anyone would want something that is barely out of the gate to fail is beyond me!

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I have this feeling that they're going in this hipster, trendy, modern teenager direction.

And frankly, I don't want to see that. What problems will Peter face? Facebook bullying?

I saw Garfield in Social Network and I'm just not feeling it. We saw that highschool ____ in the first Spider-Man film, that was enough for me. I know the topic has been done to death, but I really don't see why they had to reboot the franchise. The only reason I can think of is to ensnare younger audiences and what better way to do that than with a "fresh" young cast with that whole Twilight vibe.

I want to see them top the origin story from the first film, the Spidey costume from all three films (that might be the best film interpretation of a superhero costume to date, and I'm a huge Batman fan), the plot and struggle from the second film, and the first two villains. How about J.K Simmons as Jameson? I want to see what actor can replace him.

I loved the feel of Raimi's Spider-Man films. The third one got a little goofy but man, those first two. The feel of them, the final swings, the score. It was good stuff. It wasn't like Spider-Man 3 wasn't successful either. It wasn't on par with the others, but it was well received outside the fan community, made money, and was a blockbuster hit. There was absolutely no reason to reboot the series especially when you could tell that Raimi and the cast/crew were still passionate about it.

It wasn't like the Batman franchise that was almost two decades old that needed a fresh start.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

So you'll have the Blu-Rays/DVD if you don't like it. I don't see the problem with that, we all know that Nolan is leaving after Batman 3 and there will probably be a reboot there as well.

I would rather they reboot instead of trying to continue what a previous director has done, we saw that fail in the X-Men, Superman and original Batman franchise but I want is for studios to go the Incredible Hulk route and give us just flashes of an origin and then continue on with the story.

That's a good idea. There's one thing that I'd be interested in seeing in this reboot, the death of Gwen Stacy. I wanted to see that in the Raimi films, especially after the whole "we are who we choose to be, so choose" scene from the first Spider-Man film with the Green Goblin, MJ and the kids.

Set up a love triangle between Parker, MJ, and Stacy, then have Spider-Man accidentally break her neck from trying to save her. Hell, having to choose between MJ and Stacy would be interesting as well.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I don't really see a need for reboots all the time. Comics have different writers and artists all the time that have their own take on characters and circumstances. I see movies as the same. The Bond movies are a great example.

Rhys Ifans is the new Spidey Villain

Here is the official press release..

Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, “We have been very fortunate to attract some of the best actors working today to play the villains in the Spider-Man movies, and it is exciting to see that trend continue with Rhys Ifans. After seeing his performance in our upcoming film Anonymous, we’re in awe of his talent and think he’s the perfect choice to take on this role.”

The filmmakers prefer to not reveal which character Ifans will be playing in the forthcoming film.

Webb added, “What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys' incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character."

Spider-Man is being overseen at the studio by Tolmach and Rachel O'Connor. Ifans is represented by United Talent Agency, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Independent Talent Group.

RHYS IFANS’ breakout performance came in 1999 in Roger Michell’s Notting Hill, opposite Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, for which he received a BAFTA Film Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. Prior to that, Ifans starred in Heart, Twin Town, August, and Dancing at Lughnasa, and since then, he has appeared in more than 20 films, including Vanity Fair; Rancid Aluminium,Little Nicky; The Replacements; Hannibal Rising, Enduring Love; Human Nature; Formula 51; Hotel; The Shipping News; Once Upon A Time in the Midlands, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Pirate Radio; Greenberg; and Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. He will next appear inMr. Nice, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Passion Play, and Columbia Pictures’ Anonymous, for director Roland Emmerich.

On television, he played the role of Peter Cook in Terry Johnson’s “Not Only But Always,” for which he won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor. He also appeared in “A Number.” In the theatre, Ifans has appeared in “Accidental Death of an Anarchist,” “Bad Finger,” “Volpone,” “Under Milk Wood,” “Beautiful Thing,” “Thyesters,” and, most recently, Patrick Marber's adaptation of “Don Juan in Soho” at the Donmar Warehouse.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I've seen this Ifans chap look pretty sinister in some of his roles, excited to hear more!

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Leading Rumors is that he'll play Curt Connors/The Lizard and that his creation and Spidey's "Creation" will tie into each other.

I'm liking the sound of that. I think I may actually like this reboot. I know, I'm crazy lol.
