Saw again in IMAX this time. I really appreciated the 3D more - didn't really notice it the first time. The action plays much better on the larger screen too.

And on the 2nd viewing - Aunt May definitely knows - she's not surprised at all when Peter comes home all beat up - she's just sympathetic. There are other signs as well.

I enjoyed the Gwen/Peter interaction even more on the 2nd viewing and didn't cringe once as I sometimes did in the Tobey/Kirsten scenes.

I appreciated the Lizard design less though - the more human face, necessary so he could talk, really didn't work for a menacing character.

Surprised how much I loved this film. Wasnt expecting much, but I really liked it. Garfield is much better than I thought. Trailers made it out asif he was emo skater boy, he clearly isn't in the film.

It was the little things that made it for me, like his fight with Lizard in the sewer. How he made the web to stand on, but also how he used to for vibrations to get the direction he was coming from. Then sticking the camera to the wall and triggering it to take a snapshot, straight from the comics.

But to me, it set up the next film with how he may go freelance and bring in the Bugle and J jonah Jameson. Really setting up the franchise.

People complained about him taking his mask off too much. I mean, the bridge scene I complete get it. I got why he did it; because he was letting the young lad know he is a normal person, and that its the mask that makes him special. The mask gives him his powers, so if the kid can put the mask on he will become spiderman and find the strength to overcome his fear and climb up to him.

Same with the cranes; I saw it as two points. 1) good deeds do get repaid one day. He let uncle ben down because that ****** wouldnt let him off 2 cents to buy a milkshake. Look what happened. But instead of choosing to help, he got uncle ben killed. On the bridge, he chose to save the child as opposed to chasing Connors. If he helped the shopkeeper, Ben would be alive. If he didnt help the boy, his dad wouldnt have helped him with the cranes and held him responsible for his sons death, meaning he wouldnt reach oscorp, Gwen and new york would die and become Lizards. Spiderman to me, has always been about responsibility with power and the choices you make. Choice has always been key to me in Spiderman and this film nailed that.

Secondly, it was about acceptance. After everyone was shooting at him and calling him a criminal, people accepted him and wanted to help him help new york. Same with Stacey. The argument set it up for when he found out Peter was Spiderman. He wasnt 'just' a vigilante, he experienced the loss of both his parents and Uncle Ben. Thats what drives him, so he understands Spidermans motives more. Thats why it affected peter when Cap Stacey died, because he put his upset into rage and anger for Uncle Ben, chasing down every male with shoulder length blonde hair. Losing Captain Stacey meant he also would lose gwen.

Maybe im over thinking the film, but thats why i rate it much more than others; because the little things make sense to me when you think about things. Its not spelt out for you in the film which is what I like, because i can see what the thought was with those scene.

I honestly hated seeing spidey without his mask in the older films, even worse when he had half a mask on, but on all the occasions when Peter removed his mask in this movie it was totally necessary! saving the kid and the end battle when he teamed up with Captain Stacey. He left the mask on in most of the other action scenes including the fight in the sewer and the school.

I loved the fight in the school. Proper spiderman moment from the comics!

Except when he was wandering the halls looking for the lizard and a cop, student, or anybody could be lurking around any corner. That part really bugged me. I mean, he suits up to fight the lizard, throws a couple punches, then takes the mask off to running through the hallways? :slap

School was cleared out, you could hear the cops yelling outside indicating they weren't in, they would wait for SWAT which would take more then 5 mins, he ran down only 2 hallways with it off stopping at the corners for a second to check out the hall, and he has spider senses which would tell him if something was there.

Great review.

The parts i bolded is why i love Spidey, instead of chasing the villian for a big fight he doesn't and instead saves the people. Other superheroes on film don't do this.

:goodpost:

There was only one scene where the absence of his mask was done improperly, that was in the school after the fight walking the hallways looking for the Lizard, any stragglers could've seen him.

there was a scene that was cut that showed why he took off the mask. :(
