Disagree 100%. Remove the symbiote, Topher and Venom and it's an entirely different movie with a great plot, no emo-parker, and a touching villain. The studio's insistence on Venom is what destroyed that movie.
Atleast for me, one of the film's biggest problems was the pacing. Cramming 3 villains in made it occasionally feel like I was watching a recap of 3 movies edited together rather than a single well paced narrative. If Venom/Symbiote wasn't present the alternative would have been the Vulture. Im not sure replacing Venom with another villian would have fixed things.
Also, Venom may have been forced in, but why wasn't Raimi able to make it work? It is one of the most famous storylines from the comics, and could have made for a great movie. Emo/Dancing Parker, Topher Venom, and all the other mistakes that came from the mishandling of the story all were decisions made by Raimi.
