Why is it assumed that if you liked the new film, that you should automatically hate the Raimi trilogy? I certainly don't hate them. At all.

In fact, seeing Spidey swing through the city to the best of the technology available at the time was excellent! The vast majority of their content was very enjoyable indeed. Some of it was way off, but there you are, and it was mostly in the minority.

I don't hate the Raimi movies either, it's just as a Spidey fan i see ASM as doing most of it better than Tobey/Raimi.

Cuz celtic wants somthing to whine about. I will always love raimi's version but it was far from perfect and im willing to give this trilogy a chance to becuase thats the spiderman fan in me. Raimi's version is done and over and it had flaws just like this movie. Nobody hates the raimi movies here from what i've seen they criticize but not hate.:cuckoo:

Celtic just checks here to make sure nobody says anything along the lines of Raimi being outdone in any way and then posts to 'correct' that opinion. He probably think SM3 was good just because Mr Wonderful directed it :slap

^ You are correct, and no, I hate that movie with every fiber of my being. But I don't hate the man. He's the filmmaker that influenced me, more then anyone else. At the age I saw him at, he changed my perspective on filmmaking.

Awesome except he didn't make Spider-Man ........ It's way to early to tell if this trilogy will be good or not. No doubt the Spider-Man movies were awesome movies and ill never forget them but they had many flaws aswell. Peter Parker for one and Mary Jane .

i agree about PP and Mj .

I finally caved and bought TAS, tonight.

I honestly believe that Watching The Avengers helped me to enjoy this movie.

But make no mistake...I am enjoying it.

I watched this today and clearly this isn't for me. It was just a rather poor reincarnation of Spidey. The bad guy was boring as hell and action was rather...dull, not to mention that I don't like this new guy at all. Maybe he isn't bad actor as such, but he just wasn't good IMO.

Hilarious tags for this thread!

So anyway, someone answer for me what has no doubt been answered umpteen times previously - who was that who appeared in Dr. Connors cell in the mid-credits bit?

No I did not mean you Wez....I can tell by your comments that you don't hate them.

No I did not mean you either Nova, your avatar is a give away in itself about what you feel for the Spidey character...

Rented this from Redbox the other night, watched it for the first time. I had no expectations sitting down to watch it. I had very little desire to see the film.

That said, it was pretty good. It handled a few things better than SM1 and a few things not as well.

The good -
* I was surprised how much I liked Garfield. He's more believable as a teen than TM, but in the next film they need to put him in college. I liked Maguier when the first two films came out but he was so goddamn bad in pt.3 it's changed the way I see him.
* Less camp. Raimi handled camp well in the Evil Dead films but some of his quirks as a filmmaker have worked against the Spiderman films, especially the first one.
* Uncle Ben. I love Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben, but they handled the character and his death better in this film. I'm glad because it's been awhile since I saw Martin Sheen it anything I liked. Also I could never get over Raimi making Ben an experienced electrician but nobody could take five minutes to tell Robertson how to use wiresnipper instead of a needlenose pliers. c'mon.
* Emma Stone owns Kirsten Dunst (and Bryce Howard too). Too bad they're going to have MJ in the next one because I mostly liked how they wrote Gwen Stacy
* Less Aunt May is a good thing.
* Flash Thompson - instead of a one-dimensional ********* he has a moment where he shows some humanity to Peter. When Peter pins him up against the wall like he wants to hit him and Flash understands using anger as a coping skill "it feels better, right?" it's a great moment.
* I kinda dug how Peter's skateboarding morphs into him learning to use his Spidey skills.

The meh -
Professor Connors/The Lizard - I just couldn't give a crap about the villain this time. He was more interesting in the scene where Peter goes to his house to discuss his parents than any other point in the film. Maybe it's because the Lizard's head was goofy.
Gwen the intern - I liked the character, but this was a stretch. A high school senior as a personal assistant/intern of a leading researcher? And she knows how to formulate anti-toxins? **cough*bullsh*itcough**
Captain Stacy - They needed an event to explain his obsession with Spiderman. Instead he just seems like a petty and jealous.
* There wasn't an action scene that matched Doc Occ vs. Spidey on the subway. Still my personal favorite, even though it ends with the odd crowd surfing bit.

I'm sure this stuff has been covered sufficiently by now, but I finally saw this over the weekend and have to say, was pretty disappointed.

Garfield was likable, and Stone was fine, but the story just seemed dull and too long. Lizard was not all that inspired and didn't evoke a strong feeling from me or Peter for that matter. :dunno Even Parker's quest to avenge his Uncle's death wasn't realized as he never finds his killer. Also, the soundtrack was horrendous.

I really wanted to like it but it was just all around meh for me.

I feel ya Pennyworth. I liked Garfield as Parker, loved Stone as Gwen, but everything else was disappointing. No JJJ in a Spidey movie will always = wtf to me. At least the visuals were stunning, but in this day and age they should be.

For me I don't think ASM is a great film, but the Raimi films have really been hurt been hurt by the black hole that was SM3.

The thing that would really help this Spidey going forward is if Disney and Fox could come to the table and arrange to produce crossovers. With Rothman out at Fox this is a new possibility.

Would have been nicer if Disney just got Spidey back. :monkey2

He'll be on Raimi's side too. Anything but another movie about the Amazing ******* please. Unless they make him a likable human being.

If Raimi and company had called it a day after 2 I'd feel different. Esp. 2, which I thought a new standard bearer for superhero films at the time. But they made a 3rd one when it's clear they had no story and little enthusiasm.

It's like how the bad Matrix sequels killed the first Matrix film for me.

Spidey don't need no Disney :pfft:

Like Batman, Spidey works best as a seperate universe of characters, he's got enough good Supporting characters and villains that he doesn't need other heroes characrers and villains to be good :lecture

His own gallery of characters have got enough going for them for their to be 20+ movies all with just his group of characters unlike the current Disney movie characters which have to mix and match characters and villains to have longevity.
