Spidey don't need no Disney :pfft:

Like Batman, Spidey works best as a seperate universe of characters, he's got enough good Supporting characters and villains that he doesn't need other heroes characrers and villains to be good :lecture

His own gallery of characters have got enough going for them for their to be 20+ movies all with just his group of characters unlike the current Disney movie characters which have to mix and match characters and villains to have longevity.

Rented this from Redbox the other night, watched it for the first time. I had no expectations sitting down to watch it. I had very little desire to see the film.

That said, it was pretty good. It handled a few things better than SM1 and a few things not as well.

The good -
* I was surprised how much I liked Garfield. He's more believable as a teen than TM, but in the next film they need to put him in college. I liked Maguier when the first two films came out but he was so goddamn bad in pt.3 it's changed the way I see him.
* Less camp. Raimi handled camp well in the Evil Dead films but some of his quirks as a filmmaker have worked against the Spiderman films, especially the first one.
* Uncle Ben. I love Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben, but they handled the character and his death better in this film. I'm glad because it's been awhile since I saw Martin Sheen it anything I liked. Also I could never get over Raimi making Ben an experienced electrician but nobody could take five minutes to tell Robertson how to use wiresnipper instead of a needlenose pliers. c'mon.
* Emma Stone owns Kirsten Dunst (and Bryce Howard too). Too bad they're going to have MJ in the next one because I mostly liked how they wrote Gwen Stacy
* Less Aunt May is a good thing.
* Flash Thompson - instead of a one-dimensional ********* he has a moment where he shows some humanity to Peter. When Peter pins him up against the wall like he wants to hit him and Flash understands using anger as a coping skill "it feels better, right?" it's a great moment.
* I kinda dug how Peter's skateboarding morphs into him learning to use his Spidey skills.

The meh -
Professor Connors/The Lizard - I just couldn't give a crap about the villain this time. He was more interesting in the scene where Peter goes to his house to discuss his parents than any other point in the film. Maybe it's because the Lizard's head was goofy.
Gwen the intern - I liked the character, but this was a stretch. A high school senior as a personal assistant/intern of a leading researcher? And she knows how to formulate anti-toxins? **cough*bullsh*itcough**
Captain Stacy - They needed an event to explain his obsession with Spiderman. Instead he just seems like a petty and jealous.
* There wasn't an action scene that matched Doc Occ vs. Spidey on the subway. Still my personal favorite, even though it ends with the odd crowd surfing bit.

I enjoyed Flash being a tad more of a character this time around too

Mark Millar is was newly put in charge by Fox as developing their long term plan for Fox owned Marvel characters. This seems to be a response to Fox recently loosing Daredevil back to Marvel after development problems caused the rights to lapse.

Millar has already spoken openly about wanting to bring Fox, Sony and Disney together to do an 'event'.

There was a time when Spiderman made more guest appearances than Wolverine. Of all the characters that people would like to see in an Avengers film I think Spidey would be way up there.

You were crying about not seeing him in Avengers because he's owned by another studio. :lol

Well, just finished watching this and....it was actually pretty good. :horror The villain and his plot were kinda meh, and I hated the stupid man-made webshooter bullcrap..but other than that I really enjoyed it.

Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker didn't seem like a ****** at all really. He showed a bit of arrogance early in the film, but you could see him mature and understand the responsibility that came with his powers.

Didn't care much for Emma Stone/Gwen Stacy though.

:goodpost: :exactly:

The only time in the film that i thought he was a bit douchy was when he was dissin the cop, other times like the dinner scen he was a bit arrogant, but after the bridge scene that's when he 'grew up' and realised he can do real good with his abilities

Totally agree and I remembered that scene as his only '******' moment throughout the film. I'd just call that him being arrogant though. He hadn't had his powers for long and sort of forgot that although he might be doing the right thing, the cops aren't going to view him as a hero in that situation. :lol
