Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I liked spidey 1 & 2 :dunno

Same here. I like part 3 for that matter and realize when Raimi was forced to kind of put so many folks in there and then didn't handle it well. As far as Tobey as Peter I think it was cast just fine and I liked him in that role but thats just me. I've always liked Spidey he's not my fave by any stretch but these films helped make me a bigger fan.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I need to see him in the suit first :lecture

yup:exactly: And I can honestly say I enjoyed the Raimi SM trilogy:dunno Like Josh said, it helped make me a bigger Spidey fan since before that, I never really read his books, but I always got his figures and played all his video games. The cartoon probably had the biggest part in me being a fan though.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Are you far more pumped for Andrew?

No. Garfield doesn't really look the part really even for an USM based film but like Tobey I'm willing to give him a shot.

Spider Man 2 is a bad movie...? Well i'm out.

Fanboyisms aside, really it was a bad film. Peter goes from down and out socially to down and out financially? He is struggling in all aspects of his life his job, his cash, moving out of Aunt May's place for no other reason that just because, when that isn't comic fodder at all and even having problems in college? It's FML for the sake of it. MJ suddenly is a popular Broadway actress? That part was taken from the Bronze Age idea of her as a model and actress one of the worst turns for the wallcrawler made even worse by the fact at least then it was a plot device to create friction for Pete trying to be supportive and Spidey as well where here it just sets to make Peter have another obstacle to a girl he already won.

Harry is now head of Oscorp's research division? The whole first film Harry was the disappointment and dumbass and Norman Osborn wouldn't have a plan for his absence? Or his board have no issue with the son he was so disappointed in to just suddenly take the reign?

May getting involved in the fray with Octopus is laughable and one for cheap laughs and even though it leads into the "Powers No More" storyline which was one of the best in the character's history, it is riddled with meh attempts at laughs including the Hal Sparks interactions.

Mary Jane is engaged to Jameson's son which is yet another obstacle for no reason considering the first film's layout and MJ's and Peter's relationship at this point, she professes her love in the first film yet all of sudden she is off with Jameson's son? Not to mention the missed opportunity to use it as a way to naturally introduce many aspects of the Silver Age including furthering the Powers No More line which is missed.

Harry unmasks Spider-Man and while shocked it kind of stops there. You'd think a scene we saw in SM3 would have taken place but its ignored for the most part for the "greater good". Mary Jane is taken again and after another villain is killed which waters down the character aspects more than people realize, she then runs to Peter in a wedding dress amazing cliche and yet still no payoff? She waits happily while he goes off so essentially the "drama" set up from the beginning was useless. You could have taken that whole part out and not have affected the film one bit. You could have taken Harry out and gone with generics and not have affected the film. It was too much from the comics sewn together and it didn't work in the long haul. Let's not even bring up the subway car scene which is horrendous.

It has good qualities and great scenes with nods to comic covers aplenty but overall it doesn't work, not like the first but definitely better than the first. People will say they like it and will continue to do so which is fine but it doesn't change the fact there are huge issues plotholes and unneeded pieces all over the map. I like Iron Man 2 but I'm more than willing to admit its shortcomings.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Fanboysims aside the movie moves the characters along....i have never read a SM comic in my life, and the movie is great to me.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Maybe then that is the difference. I've read Spidey comics since I was 7. I still have my first one. Through my own OCD I went back and read collected editions and TPBs....so I could spot the differences (although it doesn't hide the regular film inconsistencies which isn't Raimi's fault since others wrote the script that he only helped a bit before production) but to me it was good, not great and definitely nowhere near perfect.

For once I agree with CelticP. SM2 is a great comic book film, and well-done movie all around. But... everyone will have their opinion.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Like I said before, people will like it and continue to do so despite pointing out anything but the comment was made on it being a bad film and I felt I would defend my position is all. I'll say this nothing that Marc Webb does will take out the fantastic performances of J.K. Simmons or Bruce Campbell in my mind.

I don't think you can preface all of that with "fanboyisms aside". :lol

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I still think part 2 kicks ass. The train scene rocks from start to finish. As does Rami's director traits.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

^ Agreed. He's my all time favorite. Every little short film I do, I throw in a Raimi homage (IE: the Raimi shot) because he influenced me so much as a child.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

The way Otto Octavius was portrayed kinda ruined Spidey 2 for me, but that operating room scene was, and still is, ____ing awesome, classic Raimi. All of the fight scenes between Spidey and Ock were great. If only Otto had been more arrogant and the ending not so sappy.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I think adding some depth to a villian is what makes him a good villian. When it got to Sandman, I was annoyed with the sappyness...but thats because the movie blew.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

When going into a comic book movie the first thing I do is erase all knowledge I have of the character as portrayed in the comics. First and foremost I am seeing a movie adaptation of a literary character, not a direct print to screen adaptation. Its like watching a Stephen King movie, forget the book all together and just watch the movie for what it is. I find trying to compare any movie adapted from a literary source will likely ruin the movie for you.

There's comic Spiderman and movie Spiderman, comic X-Men and movie X-Men ect.

I enjoyed the first 2 Spidey movies, more so the second one. I thought the third was a turd though.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

yes, batman begins is IMO the best comic book movie made, but now it seems every director and remake producer in the known world is saying, "we want to go for a darker, more serious product just like batman begins".

can you imagine spidey made like BB? the reason BB came off like it did, and TDK worked as a crime drama is because of the character, his villains and the gotham setting. i can't imagine that seriousness working for spidey. spidey's universe is just a lot more goofy. it needs that goofiness. that's why i think raimi's style was a good match for the movies.

and batman doesn't have any powers. his whole reason for being is his backstory and what happened to him to shape him into batman. so the whole superhero thing works as a subplot. you can't do that for spidey, because his new powers suddenly changed his whole life. and the fact he actually has powers means that superhero story has to be at the forefront.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Raimi was able to dark, without going DARK DARK....and that man can go dark....:lol

Jan 10th, 2011

"The Man" tweets about his new cameo
At this point, it will be no surprise that Stan "The Man" Lee will have a cameo in the upcoming Untitled Spider-Man Film, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, but it was confirmed earlier this evening by his excited tweets on Twitter that producer Avi Arad called him to tell him what his cameo would be, and that this time, he would be in an actual action scene.
Here's what was tweeted about his appearance:
"It’s been an exciting week for me, but I got a phone call last night that really flipped me out! I’m bustin’ to tell you about it. My pal Avi Arad, producer of the new Spider-Man movie, called to tell me how excited he is about the film. Then came the surprise—Avi told me my cameo is all set for Spidey 4, and when he described it, I realized it’s the best, most unusual one yet!I wish I could tell you what my cameo is, but that would kill the surprise. But I’ll tell you this much—I’m finally in an action scene!"
