The only step left for a Batman movie is for him to be bathed in shadow for the entire movie.

Just like what Todd McFarlane described for his Spawn movie that will never happen lol

I didn't quite get how Batman can deck an officer, get shot and ran after, then hang out with them again at a crime scene. Guess you can assume Gordon smoothed things over, but that's another leap for me. The Riddlers felt like the ending to Batman 66 with the whole gang there to fight. :lol

Yeah the final part of Riddler's plan definitely stuck out as odd and not quite calculated.

Like wait you planted bombs all over the sea wall to funnel people to Gotham square garden so that a bunch of random gunmen could shoot at them?

You weren't concerned telling 500 people your plan? Why not just plant another bomb in the building you were funneling people to?

Did you make sure you told all the riddler gunman to hook up to safety line so as to make sure Batman didn't accidentally kill them? :lol

I must admit it takes some adjustment to this Batman on the ground level physically involved in everything. They had the Western spurs audio to send that point home that he is ready to go toe to toe physically instead of popping up out of nowhere. He can just walk into crime scenes and become a Red Cross member now. :lol

It was like Reeves was making him into some cult guy that attracts others. There was a point to be made though with the random guy at the funeral showing up as one of them cause of "vengeance". Poetic irony that felt a little left on the table.

I LOVED it. Felt like the Batman movie I've been waiting for.
Pattinson ******* nailed it - best Batman for me by far (though Keaton will always have that nostalgia factor).
Gotham was perfectly realized - how I've always imagined it.
Everyone was pitch-perfect in their role.
Paul Dano was for me the MVP (Alongside Pattinson) incredible, this is The Riddler i've been dying for, dark, SCARY, real puzzles, CRAZY.
My only gripe really is that I wished I saw more of Dano as Riddler, the time felt too short -
especially without the mask but maybe thats just because I thought the face to face seen he had with Pattinson was great. THAT was my Eddie Nygma
Loved the score, loved the cinematography, characters, plot etc. Not really a thing for me to dislike honestly.

Man the Dolby Vision theater was incredible. The Batmobile chase was epic. Even when Batman was slamming the window in Arkham, the whole place was shaking. Incredible.

The collar still bothers me on the suit..it’s Dr. Strange meets count Dracula :chase

See…Batman doesn’t need a crappy voice :lol

Keaton and now Pattinson prove it can be done

I do have some notes about the ending and some of the comparisons to TDK

1. I do think we all forget sometimes (simply because he was so awesome) but ultimately Heath Ledgers Joker's masterplan endgame was to blow up one of two ferries - this movie's endgame for me was more impressive & "supervillain". The only thing that gave the ending of TDK impact was Two-Face.

2. I don't mind the Riddler copycats but I would have preferred they either were a smaller more obsessed cult & there were a series of puzzles you needed to do to access Riddler's feed or something. OR I wouldn't have minded if they were dirty cops or something that Riddler either had strapped to a bomb to do his will or had dirt on to force them.

3. I thought the flooding of the city was epic - but the conclusion of it should have been more: I would have had the city's elite all clearly present for the event, hence the idea of "cleaning up the city/a real renewal". I would have the shooters as just a secondary distraction/red herring threat & the real threat would have been a bomb planted by Riddler to kill the crowd. The password for the bomb (he would leave one as Eddie is psychological incapable of not leaving a clue) would have been his real name. His real name would have been the son of the reporter he believes Thomas Wayne/Falcone killed - leaving him an orphan. This would both be his motive, make him a more direct parallel to Bruce, make him more a part of the final act conclusion & lead to my next point. It would also give his "you tell me" who I am scene in the diner more meaning when they look through his identities - he is foreshadowing the last riddle.

4. I would have had a final scene after the bomb/flooding scene where Bruce talks to Eddie, reveals that he knows who he is and why he thinks they are the same - vengeance. Bruce will explain to Riddler that he WAS like him, though Eddie crossed a line & became a monster, he will also tell Riddler that because of him he has learned to be more than that. Riddler is distraught & enraged, not only by the failure of his plan, the collapse of the kinship he felt to Batman & the obsession he developed, the humiliation of his enemies pity & because Batman by figuring him out has revealed him for what he IS instead of what he WANTS TO BE. Edward/Riddler is no symbol, an everyman who represents the reckoning of Gotham, he is just a broken, mentally ill man lashing out at the world. And he HATES Batman for making him face that.

5. Have the scene in Arkham where he meets Joker as the mid-credit scene.

Just my take on how to polish the ending

Just returned from second viewing.

The things that bothered me before no longer do.

That being said Alfred needs subtitles lol

Riddler unmasked improved tremendously for me.

Riddler masked had one rather silly moment but otherwise good stuff.

The Batmobile start up tops even BB that’s how awesome it was!

I enjoyed Penguin quite alot.

How Riddler figured out
that BW was BM is still rather confusing
See what e30ernest said in the spoilers
He didn't. He said he wasn't able to get BW. This made BM realize his identity was safe.

Personally, I really enjoyed it. My 2nd Fav Batman movie after TDK. I may even like it more than that film down the road.

I really have no complaints. This was like reading a Batman comic. It was a bit long, yes. But a good Batman movie at three hours is nothing to complain about.

Riddler casting was perfect. I loved when they arrested him. Little weasel :lol

RP as The Bat is the best Batman so far. Bale is my fav Wayne. But that was because the script called for RP to still be brooding and not find his way yet as Batman or Bruce Wayne.

Such a solid film 4 out of 5 easy.

I liked that Batman's theme sounded a little like Vaders :)

This was a good movie, it just needed some polish. It is by far one the most compelling comic book movie I have ever seen. Glad we aren't blasted with obvious CGI and get to go on a documentary with Batman.

Yeah, TDK's ending wasn't all that. Batman fights three dogs and gets stuck under some metal contraption where he's forced to talk ad nauseam in his gruff voice.
At least the dogs grounded him some. This Batman can withstand a nuclear blast. :lol

The Matticus Review you've all been waiting for...LIKE THE CLIMAX OF THE 5TH ACT!

TOO LONG! I thought the movie would end soon, but 40 minutes later it finally ends. Or even an hour later, I don't know lol. The movie felt like it was 10 hours for as immersive as it was. So immersive, but honestly, not structurally sound.

Why am I watching Batman looking at something for 10 seconds long? Then do that 10 more times. I get you want to make this Batman Seven, but with simple cuts the movie could have been 30 minutes shorter. It is intended to be a long burn movie, and that's what I was looking forward to, but there are times when you are just thinking let's move on. You can stay with a scene too long like:

oh there was an ouchie scene. I don't think I needed to see Batman slowly drag himself away after making a flying mistake.

The tone and feel was awesome. So grounded and you literally go with Batman everywhere. That's what I liked and wanted.

The Batmobile scene was incredible. You felt like you were right in the action. Very intense, very satisfying. This makes me want a HT Batmobile now.

A different Batman than we are used to. No Wayne Manor, surprisingly little of Alfred. I like the little amount of Bruce. I wanted to be with Batman on the adventure. This take on Bruce made a ton of sense. Stuck in full angst mode and is a recluse. It felt right.

Riddler was interesting until his reveal. I feel like he was shown too much. I like how Dano loses it at times. The Riddler I know is unhinged when it doesn't go his way. Not sure I needed the chorus singing though. Essentially what this movie was, just more than what was needed.

Farrell as the Penguin was awesome. Very smart ***. Can't wait to see more of him if that HBO Max show is a thing. Zoe was fine. Emotional and didn't act like a cat as Catwoman. I hate that take on Catwoman. Gordon was good except for the weird part where he is telling Batman to leave. The way he argues with his head back and forth, some people laughed at that. It was odd. There were parts of this movie, like Batman strutting out of the shadows and the flow of dialogue in a scene.

This was a problem I thought I might have as Reeves said this was the start of the Rogues Galley villains. Nothing conclusive with any of them. It felt like an empty conclusion. Riddler's plot was the opposite of the entire movie - big CGI extravaganza ending. Riddler isn't even in the middle of it. The shotgun blast to the stomach was too much. This guy shouldn't be taking gunfire like Superman.

Very surprised at how little action there was. A lot of focus and detail on the detective/story work. It could have used one more action sequence, but I have to give WB credit to give the green light to this grounded of a Batman movie.

Battinson nailed this. So minute (my NOOT) in his performance. It was special and the voice he got just right. The Batsuit, how it looked, his ability to fight - it all felt right and honest. This Batman was Year Two, he is over aggressive and not totally superior yet. I liked to see him fail. Not sure about his having Superman armor at times made sense.

The worst crime this movie made WAS 15 SECONDS OF THE BATCYCLE! WHAT?!??!?!?!? I was totally looking forward to a cool sequence with him driving around on it!

To say this movie is better than TDK is ridiculous. You look at the overall movie and judge it by that. Not half a movie, not most of a movie or even cool scenes. This is not better structurally than TDK. The editing and sound editing were weird. Lingering too long for a scene and then the same sound clips used over and over and over again. I don't think this is even better than BB. Certainly better than TDKR and the rest. The rewatchablility is low for the length and the long burn. This was a bridge to somewhere with what certainly seems like the Joker at the end. Ugh...another Joker...but with some weirdo actor. Eye roll.

I had no problem with the ouchie scene.. As this is still a young Batman who is learning

I can see why some would like this better then TDK. But if I go by first time viewings this was nowhere near the thrill ride that TDK was. I think those that rate it higher are just happy with a new shinny toy or they are part of the Nolan backlash.

I'll have to watch this a few more times to officially rate it against TDK. I did like the feel and Patterson as Batman more then TDK. I mean this was Gotham. Patterson was The Bat.

I think the reason they kept having Patterson look at stuff is because he looked so freaking cool doing it. The way his eyes would slowly move. Just freaking perfect for me. I loved it.

The end did feel a bit out of place to the rest of the film but it needed that for 2 reasons. We needed some action and The Bat had to be shown being more than Vengeance.

I loved it. Not perfect and yes, a bit long but I don't know what I would cut out. I didn't need the Alfred scenes, I guess. Put some action in there instead :lol

I know people are going to think i’m crazy for preferring this over TDK even with all of its faults in the later parts I really don’t know how to quantify it against Nolan’s work other than it just being different and more my style than just dry Chicago.

I can see that for sure. This film just oozed atmosphere.

Nolan's Batman was a very realistic look at the character. What if a real rich man decided to fight crime.

This one is realistic also but always feels like a comic book film. I prefer the feel to The Batman also.

But this is the one time I will agree with your "What is TDK without the Joker" Because that is what takes that one over the top for me when it comes to comparing the two. BUT maybe I will feel differently after repeat viewings and The Batman will be my fav. IDK. Even at 2.5 hours TDK flies by. I dont know if this one will.

This is the best Batman movie I've seen. 10/10. They pulled from a lot of stories for this one and they definitely used two of my favorite ones.
I was telling all my friends that it felt like I was reading The Long Halloween. Not so much the story as a whole. There is some of that but not much. But just the pacing and the feel.

Batman narrating in the opening.. I sweat I could look in the corner and see square comic panels with his dialogue :lol
