I was telling all my friends that it felt like I was reading The Long Halloween. Not so much the story as a whole. There is some of that but not much. But just the pacing and the feel.

Batman narrating in the opening.. I sweat I could look in the corner and see square comic panels with his dialogue :lol
That and Earth one is what I felt like with it. I agree finally hearing him narrate felt like one of the comics. Especially when he's in Detective mode. Lol

Ok here goes..

It hurts much more when a quality narrative crashes and burns during the finale for instance my experiences with the MCU shows, BW, Squid games, Archive81 just to name a few.

Some of the best Batman elements ever to be realized in cinema completely deflated by a 3rd act that failed to stick its landing by very odd plot decisions grrrr :gah:

The longer the movie played the worst it got for me :crying it was like they zigged when they should’ve zagged lol

Most of it I did prefer over TDK it’s the Batman I have always wanted BUT…and this is important for me…TDK has a much more epic more fulfilling ending leading up to the credits.

Do I place it overall above TDK?

Some things like i mentioned the ending TDK does better and of course the Joker who is more memorable than Riddler just maybe not as ruthless and scary BUT more memorable and also some set pieces but otherwise The Batman is my favorite Batman movie enough so that I will go watch again with wife and son this time.

Man why did they go and abandon the direction it was leading into just to play it safe I don’t get why they deflated everything into a soft finale.

Now who wants the movie spoiled get over here Loki lol
Im glad you got over some of your issues the 2nd time.

I thought the third act was a bit strange but ultimately, seeing him helping the people of Gotham was the real point and I loved that.

I really don't have any complaints other than length. Alfred and Bruce relationship was not really fully fleshed out but, I didn't need it. I kinda wish Alfred wasn't in it as much as he was and that was not much :lol

One more thing about that 3rd act...
When that roof blew... I got goosebumps.

Didn't you feel a bit underwhelmed when The Riddler was unmasked? I mean that is who we were scared of all this time.LOL
Not at all. the casting was perfect. Many serial Killers look very unassuming.

The Riddler has never been a scary looking character. He is a nerd who thinks he is always the smartest one in the room.

If he looked tuff or scary that would go against what the Riddler has always been.

Like a said. A weasel. :)

Yes. I have never read Earth One. I have read a ton, but I tend to buy the collection in graphic novel form. I don't know why. Maybe it was that bat symbol on his chest :lol

Should I give it a go?

does Reeves have a fetish with showing closeups of the eyes :lol Seriously though …those shots of each character’s eyes tell a huge story

I had no problem with the ouchie scene.. As this is still a young Batman who is learning

I can see why some would like this better then TDK. But if I go by first time viewings this was nowhere near the thrill ride that TDK was. I think those that rate it higher are just happy with a new shinny toy or they are part of the Nolan backlash.

I'll have to watch this a few more times to officially rate it against TDK. I did like the feel and Patterson as Batman more then TDK. I mean this was Gotham. Patterson was The Bat.

I think the reason they kept having Patterson look at stuff is because he looked so freaking cool doing it. The way his eyes would slowly move. Just freaking perfect for me. I loved it.

The end did feel a bit out of place to the rest of the film but it needed that for 2 reasons. We needed some action and The Bat had to be shown being more than Vengeance.

I loved it. Not perfect and yes, a bit long but I don't know what I would cut out. I didn't need the Alfred scenes, I guess. Put some action in there instead :lol
Well my point was is that seeing him injured is important, but it stayed there too long. Shave a couple seconds off. I felt like there was a lot of moments or scenes that needed some trimming. There is just so much going on, if you take some story out, you will need to change other things. Way more cool than not cool, that's for sure. The film will need a revisit though with such a long, evolving story. The Arkham scene is one where I need a listen to the dialogue again. I don't think I ever made the reporter link totally.

I liked the closeups. I like some of the longer shots. But it certainly became a theme with Batman. :lol

Thank god for the multiverse theory..there is no way in hell this version of the Riddler will ever be my riddler :chase
Way back even before Batman Forever I thought they could make a creepy R rated Batman movie with the Riddler as a serial Killer.

Has he ever been a serial killer in the comics? I know he loves death traps but I dont recall him ever being a serial killer.

Needless to say, I loved this version of him :)

Is it me or did they use a double for Pattinson for most of the Batman scenes that weren't close-ups? With the Batman suit on, he looked so much bulkier than when he is BW (where he just looks lanky).

I will admit I laughed when he limped off.. BUT the way he took that landing, we needed to see something. I did not mind it because of what I said before.

What confused you about the reporter link. I dont ever recall them talking about the reporter at Arkham lol

Definitely it's a good Batman story that has that different take and you'll notice certain things used for the film.

I bet Reeves put out a memo when they started filming

Rule #1 “ don’t you dare show up on set with tired eyes ..for everyone “

Rule #2 “ don’t drink or party before showing up on set

Rule #3 “ Whatever you do…get plenty of sleep before we shoot a scene

Who was the reporter that was killed? Maybe it was something more than what I thought it was.

When they had the wide shot of him walking out of the shadows into the shot, he looked bulkier, like he couldn't totally put his arms down. It had to be the suit.

Its the suit for sure.

Ya know Michael keaton didn't have those abs either in Batman 89 ;) ;)
Yeah but there are a lot of times (especially on wide shots/fight scenes) where the suit appears bulkier too. I wonder if there is some truth about the issues they had with Robert refusing to bulk up for the role.

You know people are saying they can’t believe that’s Ferrell under the makeup..but when I see the eyes, demeanor and Penguin yelling …I see Colin :lol
