I'd just like to get TV broadcasts in proper 1080p before they start pushing 4k & even 8k now.

It's just getting ridiculous IMO

Put the current tech into full use before you start trying to fleece us for new shiz we don't need

15.1 makes not sense to me. 7.2 however...

I have it in the man cave so it is feasible.

But considering they never maximize 7.1, why even bother.

I usually look at bluraysteelbooks.com in the US section to see what is releasing soon but I feel like they haven't updated their site. There was a TMNT steelbook and several old movies that had steelbook releases and they never showed those. I was wondering if anyone knew another site that was up to date? Thanks in advance!

No way, 8K has just started being used in Japan, I want that now. :lol

True, only the super wealthy who have their dedicated movie theaters would benefit. :lol

It was either Brad Pitt or Spielberg that have a real IMAX in their house. :lol

I'm fine with what I have.

When they finally make 4K mainstream I will buy a projector that supports it and the inevitable blu-ray and double dip on certain movies.

I don't need to buy a TV that supports it until TV providers start sending the signal which they can't even do in 1080p across all channels and programs yet. :dunno

Most broadcasters only made the switch to HD because they were mandated to do so by the FCC, and even then they went kicking and screaming. I'm guessing that while some stations are broadcasting in HD, some lower markets might not have invested in the equipment to record in HD.

So, as far as I know, there is no mandate in the foreseeable future to force 4k on to broadcasters, so when we do see it, it might only be niche channels or on demand.

I love my 7.2 and don't know how I could ever listen to anything less. I will go ATMOS with all the speakers and dodads when it's finally out for a while and stable.

I was only half joking about TVs being disposable, did you see how cheap 1080p TVs were during the holidays.

4K will soon be the price of 1080p.

4K HDR or 4K (even 1080p) OLED will now become the premium expensive TVs.

We we are so behind Japan when it comes to this crap. :lol

They were using 1080p in the 90s, they've been using 4k for almost a decade. :lol

That doesn't make sense since they're the ones making them.

The speed at which TV is changing now is mind boggling when compared to how the technology was virtually stagnant for decades. we went from B&W to color, wired remotes to infrared, and that's pretty much it, other than delivery methods such as cable, satellite and home video. I remember seeing a flat panel HDTV in the 80's being touted as the next big thing, didnt realize it would take 20 years to become a reality. Now the broadcast industry (and consumers) cant keep up.

720P then 1080P then 3d, then smart, then 4k, then curved, now were talking 8k? all over the course of (about) 15 years, hope it doesnt cause consumer burn out.

Not to mention that most people now are literally walking around with a TV in their pocket (smartphone) that is better than the one they had in their living room 20 years ago. Hell, my phone even shoots video in 4K.

Ahhhhh...very true.

But United States is the leader in media creation.

We don't need an 8K TV to watch Japanese soap operas, we need them for our blockbusters and sports.

Therefore the content creators, these huge media companies, have huge control on what technology is allowed here.

They're the ones deciding how much profit they can still squeeze from current tech before asking us to double, triple, quadruple dip on our favorite content.

To this day some media companies are still using copper wiring for moving data.

Besides, in Japan the public is used as the test bed for weeding out what works and doesn't.

Everything that gets released here better work perfect the first time or back it goes, and it does because the Japanese weeded out all the kinks for us. :lol

SK also a big player now.

True, Samsung Note 4 shoots 4K, but it's also $800.00, you can buy a 1080p TV for that.
