I doubt they'll be an extended edition, at least for awhile. Disney will get as much out of the first release as they can first. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see a 3D either. I'm still waiting for a US edition Frozen 3D.

It's probably bare bones
For once I'd like a SW theatrical movie to permanently be the only "edition" that ever exists. So I'd be fine if we never, ever see an EE. But a 3D version is indeed on the way, release date TBA: Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3D Blu-ray
Disney would be silly to not show the missing 25 minutes of footage. Its another way to 'sell' more discs and toys and everything else.
Oh I definitely want to see deleted scenes, just not sure that I want them back in the movie.
Movies have become like clay in recent decades. Not sure there is a definitive version of anything anymore.

I don't think so. I think Star Wars falls in the same category as Pixar and Marvel so they can't pull the no-3D nonsense like they have with the Disney-only releases like Frozen and Oz.

If I were Disney, I would've never announced this now. This might stop people from seeing their 3rd or 4th showing.
People said that when Avatar was given an April release date for the blu-ray as well.

I agree, I would have planned the video release for around thanksgiving to Help get everyone hyped for the Rogue One movie
